Abstract:The trans addition of HSiEt3 to propargylic ethyl carbonates catalyzed by the ruthenium complex [Ru(C5Me5)(MeCN)(3)][PF6], 1, leads to H2C=C(SiEt3)CH(R)OCO2Et (R = H, Me, Pr-n, or Ph) derivatives as allylic substrates for Subsequent ruthenium-catalyzed nucleophilic allylic Substitution reactions. Ruthenium catalysts based on a [Ru(C5Me5)(2-quinolinecarboxylato)] or [Ru(C5Me5)(2,2'-bipyridine)](+) fragment are more efficient than 1 for access to various H2C=C(SiEt3)CH(R)Nufunctionalized vinylsilanes (R = H, Me; NuH = secondary amine, phenol, dimethylmalonate, methanol). New [Ru(C5Me5)(2-quinolinecarboxylato)(eta(3-)allyl)](+) cationic ruthenium(IV) intermediates are characterized, and experiments using a deuteriurn-labelcd allylic carbonate provide evidence for a regioselectivity arising from the presence of the 2-quinolinecarboxylato (N,O)-chelate.

Abstract:Two new [12]metallacrown-6 compounds, [M(II)(6)(SMe)(12)] [M = Ru (1), Zn (2)], were constructed from a dimethyl sulfoxide decomposed methylthiol product to doubly bridged metal centers. The Ru(II) compound can prompt alkenylation reactions of phenylpyridines with alkynes to generate monoalkenylated arylpyridines in moderate yields with high regioselectivity and stereoselectivity.

Abstract:O-Phosphination of alpha-dicarbonyls via sequential in situ formation of a Kukhtin-Ramirez adduct and a P(NMe2)(3)-catalyzed process has been exploited for the synthesis of alpha-phosphoryloxy carbonyls. A range of P(O)-H derivatives, including diarylphosphine oxides, arylphosphinates, and phosphinates, are competent candidates to be introduced into the alpha-dicarbonyls in this transformation, and various alpha-phosphoryloxy carbonyls are obtained. This approach possesses advantages of mild conditions, simple operations, atom economy, high efficiency, and gram-scale synthesis, which make it promising in the synthesis toolbox.

Abstract:Vinyl chlorides can be effectively prepared via alkyne hydrochlorination catalyzed by the [Cp*RuCl(cod)]/PPh3 system. The reaction mechanism has been elucidated by density functional theory calculations. Different from the previously proposed pathway (oxidative addition, alkyne coordination, H-/Cl-transfer via inner addition, and reductive elimination), the calculation results indicate that HCl favorably attacks the alkyne stepwise from the outer coordination sphere of the Ru center. The reaction is essentially the electrophilic addition of HCl to alkyne. Therefore, the proton tends to attack the more negatively charged carbon of the C–C triple bond, leading to the Markovnikov product.

Abstract:A ruthenium-catalyzed switchable N-H/C-H alkenylation reaction of 6-phenyl-(dihydro) pyridazin-3(2H)-ones triggered by a nitrogen/oxygen atmosphere was developed. To achieve switchable modification of the two important sites of the widely used pharmacophore, a simple and efficient procedure containing two optimized ruthenium catalytic systems was utilized, which afforded excellent activity, high selectivity, and good tolerance of a wide range of functional groups.

Abstract:The allylation of 1,3-dicarbonyl compounds and malononitrile with aliphatic allylic substrates is achieved under mild conditions in the presence of new ruthenium catalysts. The ruthenium complex [Ru(C5Me5)(2-quinolinecarboxylato)(CH2CHCH-n-Pr)] [BF4] as a precatalyst, allows the synthesis of mono-allylated branched derivatives. On the other hand, the parent complex [Ru(C5Me5)(MeCN)(3)] [PF6] as a precatalyst, straightforwardly favours the bis-allylation of the procarbonucleophiles leading to bis-allylated bislinear products. The involvement of the two precatalysts provides a sequential synthesis of unsymmetrical mixed linear-branched bis-allylated derivatives.

Abstract:The rhodium‐catalyzed addition reaction of cyclo‐(PPh)5 to alkynes in refluxing THF efficiently provide 1,2,3‐triphospholenes, in which the –PPh–PPh–PPh– group is transferred from cyclo‐(PPh)5 by the cleavage of P–P bonds. In refluxing chlorobenzene, the reactions are accompanied by the formation of 1,2‐diphosphetes. When the triphospholenes containing P–P bonds are reacted with reactive alkynes under rhodium‐catalyzed conditions, unsymmetric phospholes are obtained. The rhodium‐catalyzed reactions can be used to synthesize various phosphorus‐containing heterocycles with different numbers of phosphorus atoms.

Abstract:Hemilabile ligands have been applied extensively in transition metal catalysis, but preparations of these molecules typically require multistep synthesis. Here, modular assembly of diverse phosphine-amide ligands, including related axially chiral compounds, is first reported through ruthenium-catalyzed C-H activation of phosphines with isocyanate directed by phosphorus(III) atoms. High reactivity and regioselectivity can be obtained by using a Ru (CO) catalyst with a mono-N-protected amino acid ligand. This transformation significantly expands the pool of phosphine-amide ligands, some of which have shown excellent efficiency for asymmetric catalysis. More broadly, the discovery constitutes a proof of principle for facile construction of hemilabile ligands directly from the parent monodentate phosphines by C-H activation with ideal atom, step and redox economy. Several dinuclear ruthenium complexes were characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis revealing the key mechanistic features of this transformation.

Abstract:This report describes the Ru(II)-catalyzed C-H allylation of N,N-dialkyl thiobenzamides with allyl carbonate. The reaction is carried out using [RuCl2(p-cym)]2 in the presence of Cu(OAc)2 and Ag2O. This method represents the first example of Ru-catalyzed C-H allylation directed by sulfur-containing groups. As a further advantage, the method is performed in sustainable and eco-friendly MeCN as a solvent.

Abstract:The new ruthenium complex [Ru(N(3)P)(OAc)][BPh(4)] (4), in which N(3)P is the N,P mixed tetradentate ligand N,N-bis[(pyridin-2-yl)methyl]-[2-(diphenylphosphino)phenyl]methanamine was synthesized. The complex was found to be catalytically active for the endo cycloisomerization of alkynols. The catalytic reactions can be used to synthesize five-, six-, and seven-membered endo-cyclic enol ethers in good to excellent yields. A catalytic cycle involving a vinylidene intermediate was proposed for the catalytic reactions. Treatment of complex 4 with PhC[triple bond]CH and H(2)O gave the alkyl complex [Ru(CH(2)Ph)(CO)(N(3)P)][BPh(4)] (30), which supports the assumption that the catalytic reactions involve addition of a hydroxyl group to the C=C bond of vinylidene ligands.

Abstract:Described herein is the synthesis of 2-pyrazolines via acceptorless dehydrogenative coupling of allylic alcohols with hydrazines based on a Ru(3)(CO)(12)/NHC-phosphine-phosphine ligand L catalytic system. The reaction not only exhibits low catalyst loading (only 0.3 mol %), wide substrate scope, good to excellent yields, and high selectivity but also omits the use of sacrificial hydrogen acceptor with only H(2) and H(2)O as byproducts, making the reaction green and atom-economical.

Abstract:Abstract Organophosphines are an important class of ligands widely used in organic chemistry. Although great progress has recently been made in the rapid construction of new phosphines through Rh- or Ru-catalyzed C–H bond functionalizations, synthetic access to more diverse phosphines remains a challenge. We describe an efficient process for the rhodium-catalyzed phosphorus(III)-directed hydroarylation of internal alkynes to generate various alkenylated and 2′,6′-dialkenylated biarylphosphines with high selectivity. A range of diverse alkynes and phosphines were effectively prepared with broad functional-group compatibility under the optimized conditions. In addition, the developed protocol can be extended to modify chiral phosphine ligands, providing enantioenriched alkenylated phosphines without erosion of the enantiomeric excess.
