Abstract:Comparing the probability distribution, basic probability assignment in evidence theory is more efficient to deal with uncertain information. However, the uncertainty measure of basic probability assignment is still an open issue. In this paper, a new uncertainty measure based on Tsallis entropy is proposed to solve problems when the basic probability assignments are not given or being transformed into interval probability distribution. The proposed entropy is an extension of Tsallis entropy in continuous space. Some numerical examples are illustrated to show the efficiency of the proposed method.

Abstract:These unbiased estimates of p-quantile and parameters for uniform distribution are given,and the usual interval estimate and the shortest interval estimate are discussed.Then,the hypothetical test method is given.Finally,the two interval estimates and their length are calculated according to specific data,and the corresponding conclusion is obtained.

Abstract:Based on the diffusion equation,the transition probability density of stock prices is calculated by means of the Monte-Carlo method.Then,the confidence interval of future stoch prices based on a certain probability is obtained,and as an application,some risk analyses were conducted.The empirical analysis on Shanghai Stock-Market Index shows that the method is capable of correctly predicting stock price movements.

Abstract:Classical test theory is firstly introduced,the mathematic model and the common calculation methods of Exam-paper Formation are analyzed,and an optimized random calculation method based on binomial distribution principle is put forword.In the composition of examination paper,difficulty coefficient as the main control index can solve the difficulty of paper control problem,and make the test average difficulty coefficient is close to normal distribution.The conclusion is test scores for the normal distribution,reliability was 83.22 through the simulation experiment.Test validity is high with expectations.

Abstract:Measuring the concentration of random variables is a fundamental concept in probability and statistics. Here, we explore a type of concentration measure for continuous random variables with bounded support and use it to provide a notion of stochastic order by concentration. We give an application to the Beta family of distributions, and specifically to the one-parameter subfamily with constant mean. This leads to using U.S. household income data to fit generalized Beta distributions and offers a new measure of income concentration.

Abstract:The beta normal distribution is a generalization of both the normal distribution and the normal order statistics. Some of its mathematical properties and a few applications have been studied in the literature. We provide a better foundation for some properties and an analytical study of its bimodality. The hazard rate function and the limiting behavior are examined. We derive explicit expressions for moments, generating function, mean deviations using a power series expansion for the quantile function, and Shannon entropy.

Abstract:A generalized negative binomial distribution is derived from the Markov Bernoulli sequence of successes and failures. We study the properties and applications of this distribution. The properties are illustrated by two examples of discrete time queueing systems. The distribution is then fitted to two data sets, the eruption record of Mt. Sangay, and a record of computer disk failure accesses. In the first case there is a strong serial dependence in the data and the generalized negative binomial provides a good fit, while in the second case, although there is a significant serial dependence, it is insufficient to justify the additional parameter of the distribution. We conclude by demonstrating the usefulness of the distribution in the field of statistical quality control.

Abstract:Let F(x) be a distribution function supported on [0, ∞) with an equilibrium distribution function F e (x). In this paper we pay special attention to the hazard rate function r e (x) of F e (x), which is also called the equilibrium hazard rate (E.H.R.) of F(x). By the asymptotic behavior of r e (x) we give a criterion to identify F(x) to be heavy-tailed or light-tailed. Moreover, we introduce two subclasses of heavy-tailed distributions, i.e., ℳ and ℳ*, where ℳ contains almost all the most important heavy-tailed distributions in the literature. Some further discussions on the closure properties of ℳ and ℳ* under convolution are given, showing that both of them are ideal heavy-tailed subclasses. In the paper we also study the model of independent difference ξ = Z − θ, where Z and θ are two independent and non-negative random variables. We give intimate relationships of the tail distributions of ξ and Z, as well as relationships of tails of their corresponding equilibrium distributions. As applications, we apply the properties of class ℳ to risk theory. In the final, some miscellaneous problems and examples are laid, showing the complexity of characterizations on heavy-tailed distributions by means of r e (x).

Abstract:Assessment of particle distribution has a wide range of applications in scientific researches and industrial processes. The knowledge of uniformity, density and agglomeration of distribution is essential for material, medical and many other fields. In this paper, we propose a set of parameters for evaluating the uniformity, density and agglomeration of particle distribution which is based on image processing. Distribution uniformity is evaluated by the value of coefficient of variationcv based on voronoi diagram, and by the eccentricity and deviation angle of particle distribution. The density of distribution is investigated via numerical density and area density which illustrate the area distribution at certain density levels. The assessment of agglomeration is carried out through the separation of particle distribution and the counting of different agglomeration situations. These three aspects of assessment will be demonstrated to fully describe the particle distribution. Microscopic images taken from chip on glassCOG are used to show the assessment process, and the characteristics of distribution can be obtained clearly and comprehensively.

Abstract:In this paper, we analyse the set of all possible aggregate distributions of the sum of standard uniform random variables, a simply stated yet challenging problem in the literature of distributions with given margins. Our main results are obtained for two distinct cases. In the case of dimension two, we obtain four partial characterization results. For dimension greater than or equal to three, we obtain a full characterization of the set of aggregate distributions, which is the first complete characterization result of this type in the literature for any choice of continuous marginal distributions.

Abstract:In this paper, we proposed a novel probability distribution model known as the unit compound Rayleigh distribution, which possesses the distinctive characteristic of defining the range within the bounded interval (0, 1). Through an in-depth investigation of this distribution, we analyzed various statistical and structural characteristics including reliability function, risk function, quantile function, moment analysis, order statistics, and entropy measurement. To estimate the unknown parameters of our proposed distribution model, we employed maximum likelihood (ML) estimation and Bayesian estimation. Furthermore, we derived several entropy measures based on ML estimation under the unit compound Rayleigh distribution. To comprehensively evaluate the performance of these entropies, we employed the Monte Carlo simulation method to calculate the average entropy estimate, average entropy bias, corresponding mean square error, and mean relative estimate for assessing the performance of various entropies within the unit compound Rayleigh distribution model. Finally, in order to validate its potential for practical applications, two sets of real data were selected for empirical analysis where fitting and parameter estimation were conducted to demonstrate the advantages of utilizing the unit compound Rayleigh distribution in describing and predicting actual data. This study not only introduces a new probability theory and statistics framework by proposing a novel distribution model but also provides researchers and practitioners in related fields with a powerful analytical tool.

Abstract:The main aim of this paper is to introduce a new flexible distribution which generalizes the normal distribution. Some properties of the introduced distribution such as PDF, CDF, hazard function, quantiles, moments and generator are derived. Overdispersion, underdispersion and equidispersion are analyzed. The unknown parameters of the distribution are estimated by the maximum likelihood method. Illustrative examples of applicability and flexibility of the distribution in question are given. Abstract:The Waring distribution is an important two-parameter discrete distribution, commonly used in fields such as ecology, linguistics, and information science, where heavy tails are often observed. In this paper, we propose a new goodness-of-fit test for the Waring distribution, which is established through the hazard rate and a linear equivalent definition of the Waring distribution. We establish an asymptotic Chi-square null distribution for the proposed test and show that it is more powerful than classical methods in simulation studies. Finally, we apply the test to analyze the authorships of published papers on computer science.

Abstract:This note gives some applications of the zeta distribution to number theory. First, a number of probabilistic proofs of the equality between the Riemann zeta functions and some number-theoretic functions are provided. Second, some problems of probability with respect to positive integers considered in the literature are discussed in the zeta distribution case. In contrast to usual heuristic arguments of probabilistic approach in number theory where the uniform distribution is assumed on positive integers, the proofs here are rigorous by utilizing the zeta distributions on positive integers.

Abstract:In this study, a new generalization of the normal distribution called the unit half logistic normal (UHLN) distribution has been proposed by introducing a shape parameter into the normal distribution to make it more flexible. Several statistical properties of the new distribution which include; the cumulative hazard function, reversed hazard function, hazard rate average function, quantile function, moments, moment generating function and order statistics has been derived. Estimators such as the maximum likelihood, ordinary least squares, weighted least squares and Cramér-von Mises were developed for the new model. The performances of the estimators were investigated via Monte Carlo simulation using six different sample sizes and replicated 5000 times. The maximum likelihood was observed to be the most consistent and the best technique, hence was used to estimate the parameters of the new distribution. The applications of the UHLN distribution was demonstrated using three different datasets and compared with the normal, transmuted normal, beta normal, McDonal normal and logistic distributions. The results revealed that the UHLN distribution performs better for the given datasets.
