Dual Variation of Enlightenment Critique and Academic Research:Shi Hu in the Movement of Reorganizing Nation's Cultural Heritage

Abstract:Enlightenment had always been intertwined with academic research in the mind of Shi Hu during the movement of reorganizing nation's cultural heritage.In the end,it was clear that enlightenment had prevailed over academic research as it eventually determined Chinese learning as a dead end.Although the movement had brought many good experiments and received positive result,however,as the initiator of the movement,Shi Hu could not get out of his cultural view of enlightenment and ended up repenting his doings.As a result of his own limitation,Shi Hu had never been able to move forward on Chinese learning,and thus had a depressing influence on the works of Peking University Institute of Chinese Learning which brought a clear contrast with the later Tsinghua Academy of Chinese Learning.
