Abstract:CuSO4 was found to be an efficient catalyst for the diazo decomposition of β-hydroxy α-diazoesters in water. 1,2-H shift occurred efficiently to give β-keto esters in high yields. No O–H bond insertion products were identified.

Abstract:In this paper, we wish to report an environment friendly synthetic method for -ketothioesters from a dodecylbenzenesulfonic acid (DBSA)-catalyzed hydrolysis reaction of chain -oxo ketene dithioacetals in water. It was shown that the hydrolysis reaction of chain -oxo ketene dithioacetals could efficiently occur in the presence of 7.5mol% DBSA at 100 degrees C in water, affording the desired -keto thioesters in excellent yields. Abstract:An asymmetric [4 + 2] cycloaddition of β,γ-unsaturated α-keto esters with 2-vinylpyrroles in water was developed under the catalysis of a kind of copper complex with a low loading. A series of optically pure 3,4-dihydro-2H-pyran derivatives could be obtained in excellent yields, with high diastereoselectivities and enantioselectivities. The corresponding mechanism was proposed, which was supported by DFT calculations.

Abstract:The Cu-catalyzed novel aerobic oxidative esterification reaction of 1,3-diones for the synthesis of α-ketoesters has been developed. This method combines C-C σ-bond cleavage, dioxygen activation and oxidative C-H bond functionalization, as well as provides a practical, neutral, and mild synthetic approach to α-ketoesters which are important units in many biologically active compounds and useful precursors in a variety of functional group transformations. A plausible radical process is proposed on the basis of mechanistic studies.

Abstract:A diastereoselective synthesis of 2-methyl-4-amino-1,2,3,4-tetrahydro-quinoline derivatives was achieved through the reaction of aromatic amines and tert-enamides in water under reflux conditions. Abstract:Herein, we have reported an efficient and green paired electrolysis strategy for decarboxylative coupling of alkenyl acids with diazo compounds, providing a broad range of β,γ-alkenyl esters and amides. The method features high stereoselectivity and no involvement of transition metals and chemical redox regents. Moreover, the protocol also provides a facile access to the corresponding dideuterated products with a high level of deuterium incorporation (93–99% D-inc.) by directly using D 2 O, thus unveiling the method as being highly valuable. Mechanistic studies reveal that diazo compounds are converted into carbon radicals using H 2 O as a promoter at the cathode through a proton-coupled electron transfer (PCET) process.

Abstract:AbstractA clean, facile and practical synthesis of α‐oxoketene S,S‐acetals in water has been developed. Catalyzed by tetrabutylammonium bromide (TBAB) at room temperature in water, a range of β‐dicarbonyl compounds have been converted to the corresponding α‐oxoketene S,S‐acetals in very high yields. The catalyst in the aqueous phase can be recycled after the separation of organic products.

Abstract:An eco-friendly selective hydrolysis of chain α-oxo ketene N , S -acetals in water for the switchable synthesis of β-keto thioesters and β-keto amides is reported. In refluxing water, the hydrolysis reactions of α-oxo ketene N , S -acetals in the presence of 1.0 equiv of dodecylbenzenesulfonic acid effectively afforded β-keto thioesters in excellent yield, while β-keto amides were successfully obtained in excellent yield when the hydrolysis reactions were carried out in the presence of 3.0 equiv of NaOH. The green approach to β-keto thioesters and β-keto amides avoids the use of harmful organic solvents, thiols and thiolacetates as well as amines, which could result in serious environmental and safety issues. Abstract:A FeCl3·6H2O-catalyzed synthesis of β-ketothioesters from the hydrolysis reaction of chain α-oxoketene dithioacetals was carried out. Subsequently, we explored the FeCl3·6H2O-catalyzed Friedel-Crafts alkylation of the synthesized β-ketothioesters with alcohols in CH3CN at 25 °C, affording the desired α-alkylated β-ketothioesters in excellent yields. Wide scope of the substrates, use of inexpensive reagents, high yields under mild reaction conditions are notable features of these reactions.

Abstract:PhSe(O)OH/Cu(OAc)(2)-Catalyzed diethoxylation of halomethylene ketones for the construction of useful alpha-keto acetals was developed. Synergetic catalysis of Se and Cu allowed the utilization of molecular oxygen as a safe oxidant instead of explosive hydrogen peroxide. The easily accessible bromo-containing substrates could release HBr during the reaction, which promoted the key enol intermediate to avoid the use of acidic additives and allow the reaction to occur under mild conditions.

Abstract:Ytterbium perfluorooctanoate [Yb(PFO)(3)] has been proved to be an efficient catalyst for Doebner reaction of pyruvic acid, aldehydes and amines under mild conditions in water to afford quinoline-4-caboxylic acid derivatives with three component one-pot method in good yields. The process is operationally simple and environmentally benign and the catalyst has readily been recycled for several times with consistent activity. Abstract:A visible‐light‐promoted O−H functionalization of 4‐hydroxycoumarins with α‐diazo esters was developed for the synthesis of 4‐hydroxycoumarin ethers under photocatalyst‐free conditions. Moreover, the three‐component reaction of 4‐hydroxycoumarins, α‐diazo esters and THF formed a series of 4‐hydroxycoumarin ether derivatives with alkoxyl spacers in yields up to 91%. The above mentioned solvent‐dependent carbene insertion transformations were conducted under extremely mild conditions with the tolerance of moisture and oxygen.

Abstract:In the paper, we wish to report an efficient one-pot synthesis of alpha-alkylated beta-ketothioesters based on H2SO4-catalyzed tandem alkylation/hydrolysis reaction between acyclic alpha-oxo ketene dithio-acetals and alcohols. It was shown that the tandem reaction could efficiently occur in the presence of 5 mol% H2SO4 at room temperature in CH3CN, affording the desired alpha-alkylated beta-ketothioesters in excellent yields. The use of very small amounts of catalyst, good generality, low cost of the reagents, excellent yield and mild reaction conditions outline the notable features of the reaction.

Abstract:Zinc bromide (ZnBr2) has proved to be a facile and efficient catalyst for the stereoselective semipinacol rearrangement of α-hydroxy epoxides at room temperature. Of note are the presence in the product of two adjacent chiral carbon centers, particularly the creation of a stereoselective quaternary center, and the efficient synthesis of β-hydroxy ketones, including some with naturally occurring spiroalkane skeletons. As an example of its application, important diastereomerically enriched spirocyclic diol ligands have been synthesized conveniently via this rearrangement followed by reduction of the spirocyclic β-hydroxy ketones obtained with appropriate hydride reagents.
