Abstract:An unprecedented deoxygenative arylation of aromatic carboxylic acids has been achieved, allowing the construction of an enhanced library of unsymmetrical diaryl ketones. The synergistic photoredox catalysis and phosphoranyl radical chemistry allows for precise cleavage of a stronger C-O bond and formation of a weaker C-C bond by 1,5-aryl migration under mild reaction conditions. This new protocol is independent of substrate redox-potential, electronic, and substituent effects. It affords a general and promising access to 60 examples of synthetically versatile o-amino and o-hydroxy diaryl ketones under redox-neutral conditions. Furthermore, it also brings one concise route to the total synthesis of quinolone alkaloid, (+/-)-yaequinolone A2, and a viridicatin derivative in satisfying yields.

Abstract:An operationally simple and inexpensive catalyst system was developed for the cross coupling of aryl iodides and bromides with ethyl acetoacetate by using CuI as catalyst and N-methyl glycine as ligand. The reaction represents a novel Cu-catalyzed C-C cross coupling reaction. This procedure is applicable to the preparation of pharmaceutically important alpha-arylalkanoic acids.

Abstract:An one-pot reaction of carboxylic acids and ynol ethers for the synthesis of β-keto esters has been developed. Under promotion of Ag2O, various carboxylic acids and ynol ethers could transform to α-acyloxy enol esters, which undergo a following DMAP-catalyzed rearrangement to deliver β-keto esters rapidly. This method provides a direct approach to β-keto esters from carboxylic acids without any preactivation. The protocol features mild reaction conditions, broad substrate scope, and the products could be transformed to an array of compounds.

Abstract:A simple and efficient method was developed for the synthesis of 2,20-arylmethylene dicyclohexane-1,3-dione derivatives via the Knoevenagel–Michael cascade reactions of aromatic aldehydes and 1,3-cyclic diketones catalyzed by ‘‘Amano’’ lipase DF, which expands the application field of enzyme catalytic promiscuity. Abstract:Diarylacetates are privileged structures of many bioactive natural products and pharmaceutical compounds. A time‐economical synthesis of diarylacetates by TfOH‐catalyzed arylation of α ‐aryl‐ α ‐diazoesters with arenes is described. This protocol provides a variety of diarylacetates in good yields with broad substrate scope, excellent functional group compatibility, and mild reaction conditions. Also, a new mechanism for the arylation reaction of α ‐aryl‐ α ‐diazoesters with arenes under TfOH catalysis is presented.

The method is based on a copper(I)-catalyzed three-component reaction of a terminal alkyne, diazoesters and aldehydes. The reaction is featured by mild conditions, high yields and excellent stereoselectivity. Cu(I) car-bene migratory insertion is proposed as the key step in the transformation.

Abstract:A cobalt-catalyzed decarboxylative oxidation of benzylic redox-active esters is described. This protocol efficiently converts secondary or primary aliphatic carboxylic acids into aromatic ketones or aldehydes. A wide range of substrates selectively reacted in good to excellent yields with broad functional group tolerance. Notably, various biologically active molecules could also work well, which indicated the synthetic application of such a methodology.

Abstract:In this work, carbazoles, one of the most important types of nitrogenous compounds, were used as substrates to synthesize dicarbazolyl(aryl)methanols in moderate to excellent yields (up to 95%). This simple and efficient strategy can regioselectively form an sp 3 quaternary carbon with two large sterically hindered carbazole rings, one benzene ring, and an active hydroxy group in a one-pot reaction. The resulting triarylmethanes are all new products, and have high potential as building blocks for medicinal chemistry or materials science. Abstract:A metal- and additive-free approach has been described for synthesizing α‐carbonyloxy esters and β-keto thioethers from readily available aryldiazoacetates with carboxylic acids and thiol derivatives, respectively. α‐Carbonyloxy esters and β-keto thioether derivatives were synthesized in good to high yields from aryldiazoacetates, carboxylic acids, and thiol derivatives decorated with various functional groups. Finally, the potential of the new approach is demonstrated through its application in gram-scale reactions and the synthesis of a few bioactive molecules.

Abstract:Pd-catalyzed decarboxylative cross-coupling of aryl iodides, bromides, and chlorides with potassium oxalate monoesters has been discovered. This reaction is potentially useful for laboratory-scale synthesis of aryl and alkenyl esters. Bulky, electron-rich bidentate phosphine ligands are preferred in the reaction, whereas Cu is not needed for decarboxylation. Theoretical calculations suggest a five-coordinate Pd(II) transition state for decarboxylation with an energy barrier of similar to 30 kcal/mol.

Abstract:CuO‐catalyzed 1,3‐addition of diaryliodonium triflates to diazo esters was realized. This new strategy forms a series of triflate‐substituted β‐aryloxyl acrylate compounds with good tolerance of functional groups and excellent regioselectivity. Mild reaction conditions are enough, and strong acids or bases are not required. Easy manipulation and good step‐economy are further advantages. The alkenyl triflate products can be further modified via cross‐coupling reactions to generate derivatized products.
