Abstract:The emergence of e-books with the characteristics of easy access and reading any time anywhere is a subject of debate in academia. Topics include the use of e-books in libraries, their use in support teaching, new possibilities for reading activities, potential uses for library archives, and the motivation and intention of e-book users. Students at Guilin University of Technology participated in a survey. Of the 300 copies of the questionnaire distributed, 263 valid copies were returned, a retrieval rate of 88%. The research results show that (1) Usability and reading need are the key factors in e-book usage. Usability refers to convenient keyword searches, portability, and any time reading. E-books are considered to make searching and reading large amounts of data easier. (2) E-books are not restricted to time and space so that the overall reading quantity is increasing. Readers become accustomed to reading e-books, and the quality of their digital reading is gradually enhanced. (3) Students should complete e-book use courses offered by libraries to enhance their familiarity with e-books and their use of e-book software, thereby enhancing postgraduate student readers' e-book information literacy. The results of the research prompt suggestions to enhance the promotion of reading and e-book information to encourage student readers' e-book reading intention.

Abstract:With the increasing dominance of digital reading over traditional reading, gaining an understanding of the environmental impacts of the formats has become critical. This systematic literature review synthesizes and integrates the findings of studies comparing print reading with on-screen reading. The results reveal that the environmental impacts of printed and digital media depend on the usage rates and number of readers of both types of media as well as user behaviors and other parameters, and digital reading also has its own negative environmental impacts. Finally, research gaps are identified and a research agenda is proposed, including considering environmental performance in comparison studies, empirical investigations of actual user behaviors, and environmental savings for lending and sharing materials from libraries. This study aims to clear the misconception and change the popular stereotype that "e-reading is environmentally more sustainable than conventional reading," and to provide stakeholders with more valuable information that is necessary to make environmentally informed decisions.
On Development of English Reading Teaching in China: A Literature Review (2003-2023)

Abstract:Reading is the foundation of mastering a language as well as a primary instrument to obtain information. Reading teaching has always been a hot topic in English language teaching (ELT). The present study sought to trace the characteristics of existing studies on English reading teaching in China. Based on research articles in the CNKI database collected by Chinese core journals and CSSCI in the past two decades, 603 studies on English reading teaching were selected and analyzed. Firstly, the Cite Space software is used to visualize the annual number of published papers, research hotspots and research trends. Subsequently, a detailed content analysis was conducted to distil and summarise the predominant research foci in English reading instruction in China over the past twenty years. The results show that the number of published papers on reading teaching research in China increases first and then fluctuates. The evolution of research topics is discerned to encompass three distinct stages and was influenced by prevailing educational policies. The research foci mainly include three aspects: English reading teaching modes, English reading teaching strategies and English reading ability. This comprehensive review aims to map out the current research landscape, shedding light on future scholarly inquiry in English reading teaching

Abstract:This paper reviewed the directions, researchers, objects and areas distributed in the published papers from 5 foreign language teaching journals and 5 educational technology journals during the years 2000-2012 on the web-based English reading teaching in China to reveal such problems as lagging knowledge and technology of researchers, imbalanced objects as well as outdated and repeated contents. It thus suggested that the further development of web-based English reading teaching will focus on the compound knowledge of researchers, wider objects and interdisciplinary contents.

Abstract:Based on CNKI and the ISI Web database,167 literature have been analyzed by research topic and research method.The results show that the research content and theoretical depth in domestic are much slower in comparison with that of foreign countries.The research topics of foreign literature focus on the relationship between eWOM and consumer behavior,the effect of eWOM,and the reliability of eWOM.Research method used in foreign literature are investigation and experimental,but descriptive method use in most domestic literature.Future research can be focus on the role of neutral eWOM and effect mechanism of eWOM investigation or experimental method.

Abstract:JD Read is currently the largest digital reading platform for Chinese electronic books. In December 2017, Chongqing University cooperated with JD Read and launched nearly 300, 000 electronic books, which are highly sought after by readers. Because JD read adopts online reading mode, it has recorded complete and diverse data of digital reading behavior within the scope of reader’s authorization. After more than a year of operation, a large number of sophisticated digital reading data have been generated. Under the premise of reasonable use, this paper sorts out and analyzes part of the open data of 2018, aiming to intuitively reflect the fundamental changes of digital reading on library service mode, so that the library can not only master the data of "borrowing", but also master the specific situation of "reading" of readers. Through research, the library can carry out more personalized and accurate reading promotion and service publicity work, effectively improve the quality of library services, and provide first-hand data for reader behavior research and reading studies.

Abstract:A literature review of electronic commerce research in China is presented in this paper. The articles are searched with the keyword “electronic commerce” separately from the core journals and the Engineering Index (EI) journals of the China Academic Journals Full-text Database at www.cnki.net. The distributions of articles published by the core and the EI journals by year and topics are analyzed. The top 10 EI journals for publication of EC articles are recognized. The main findings include: 1) both distributions by year from the core and EI journals in China show growth in general but with waves, which are different from the steady growth distribution of international journals; 2) the most heavily published EC research area is in the technological issues followed by the market topics in China journals; and 3) the most of top 10 EI journals for publication of EC articles are in the computer area followed by electronics, mechanical engineering, and system engineering.

University Students Awareness, Usage and Attitude Towards E-books: Experience from China

Abstract:The purpose of this study was to investigate students' awareness, usage and attitude towards e-books at the Zhejiang University in China. The research design was quantitative using a convenience sampling method and chi-square analyses were employed. Library staff responsible for digital resources collection had been interviewed. Results indicated that there was a significant difference of students' awareness and usage of general e-books and academic e-books. There was a higher awareness but lower adoption of general e-books. The awareness and level of usage of library provided e-books were both very low. A search engine was generally used to access e-books. Senior undergraduates and postgraduate students mainly accessed e-books from the library website and library catalog. Students, particularly undergraduate students, used e-books mainly for the purpose of leisure. In contrast, postgraduate students tended to use e-books more for academic purposes. The use of mobile devices and computers was preferred when reading e-books; but for academic e-books students preferred print part of them for reading. University students showed strong preference for printing books. Academic libraries should put more efforts on promotion, stimulating demands, and cooperation with teachers to improve e-books usage.
Chinese Humanities Scholars' Reading of Academic E‐books: A Survey on Reading Strategies and Tasks

Abstract:Academic books are essential to humanities scholars. With the rapid development of digital publishing, digital reading has become mainstream, and electronic academic books are gradually being absorbed by humanities scholars. In this case, it is important to understand their use of reading tasks and strategies when reading electronic‐academic books, and to summarize the characteristics of their e‐book reading behaviour. This study therefore outlined the academic reading characteristics of humanities scholars, as well as their e‐book reading strategies and tasks. Subsequently, a user reading strategy questionnaire was compiled, and a survey conducted. Finally, descriptive statistics and sample paired t‐tests were adopted to obtain the usage of e‐book reading strategies of Chinese humanities scholars. Results showed that prior knowledge was the most used strategy, followed by understanding and decision‐making, self‐regulation, and self‐monitoring strategies. Significant differences in the frequency and preference of reading strategies in different e‐book reading tasks were also identified. This paper further discusses the characteristics of e‐book reading behaviour of humanities scholars, and the future direction of electronic academic book construction.

Abstract:At any time,reading is of great significance for the cultural heritage of human beings.The national reading has changed dramatically in China as digital age comes.The paper does not only summarize the results of previous research about the influence that the digital age has exerted on national reading and about concerned proposals,but also points out its limitations and shortcomings.The study shows that domestic scholars mainly investigated the status quo and change of reading.Then much attention has been paid to the following subjects including the medium and content of reading materials,people's reading be-havior and time they spent in reading.Besides,researchers also try to put forward some proposals on this topic.In the author's view,although some academic achievements have been made so far,their research results were mainly in the form of thesis rather than monograph,and most papers adopted qualitative research methods,lack of large-scale,systematic and scientific empirical research.Therefore,further study is needed on this issue.
