Abstract:Objective To investigate the association between metabolic syndrome and the development of gallstone dis-ease. Methods A cross-sectional study was conducted in 7570 subjects enrolled from the physical check-up center of the hospital. The subjects included 918 patients with gallstones and 6652 healthy controls without gallstones. The waist circum-ference, blood pressure, fasting blood-glucose and serum lipids were measured and the relationship between metabolic syndrome and gallstone disease was analyzed. Results Waist circumference, systolic blood pressure, diastolic blood pres-sure, fasting blood-glucose and serum triglyceride in patients with gallstones were significantly higher than those in con-trols while the serum high-density lipid was significantly lower than control group (t=2.29, 2.96, 2.21, 2.27, 3.14, 1.99, P<0.05). After age adjusting, the metabolic syndrome showed the serious relation with gallstone (OR=1.42, 95%CI1.23~1.64). Conclusions The metabolic syndrome is seriously relate with gallstone.

Abstract:Clinical studies have shown that bipolar patients have increased serum uric acid levels. High serum uric acid levels could play a role contributing to high prevalence of metabolic syndrome. Metabolic syndrome is known to increase the risk of developing a number of life threatening diseases including coronary heart disease, hypertension, and type 2 diabetes. This study investigated the association between hyperuricemia and metabolic syndrome and its components in individuals suffering from bipolar disorders.

Hyperuricemia is defined by cut-off values of >420 mu mol/L for men and > 360 mu mol/L for women. Prevalences were 16.9% (N=702) for hyperuricemia and 8.4% (N=349) for the MS. Serum uric acid concentration was significantly higher in mates than in females (p<0.0001), and significantly higher in subjects with obesity, dyslipidemia and hypertension compared with those without. In the partial correlation analysis, after controlling for gender, age and creatinine, serum uric acid concentration was significantly positively correlated with BMI (r=0.301, p<0.0001), systolic blood pressure (r=0.151, p<0.0001), diastolic blood pressure (r=0.168, p<0.0001), total cholesterol (r=0.144, p<0.0001) and triacyglycerol (r=0.234, p<0.0001). Results suggest that increased serum uric acid concentration is associated with an increased prevalence of metabolic disorders such as obesity, dyslipidemia and hypertension in the Hangzhou population.

Positive Association Between Metabolic Syndrome and Serum Uric Acid in Wuhan.

Abstract:BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES The objective was to determine whether serum uric acid concentrations were associated with metabolic syndrome in a population from Wuhan. METHODS AND STUDY DESIGN 5,628 subjects (2,838 men, 2,790 women) aged 18-80 years were recruited in Wuhan, China. Biochemical parameters of venous blood were measured by standard methods and metabolic syndrome was defined by Chinese Diabetes Society criteria. Association analysis was performed by logistic regression. RESULTS 8.2% of the included subjects were confirmed as having metabolic syndrome and 14.4% were confirmed as having hyperuricemia. After multivariable adjustment, logistic regression showed the odds ratios of metabolic syndrome for subjects in the highest quartile of serum uric acid concentration was 2.84 (95% CI: 2.09-3.86) compared with those in the lowest quartile and no gender difference was found. For each component of metabolic syndrome, subjects in the highest quartile of serum uric acid concentrations had increased multivariable odds ratios for high BMI (OR: 3.29, 95% CI: 2.71-3.98), for hypertension (OR: 3.54, 95% CI: 2.93-3.86), for dyslipidemia (OR: 2.49, 95% CI: 1.98-3.14), but not for hyperglycemia (OR: 1.21, 95% CI: 0.87-1.67). CONCLUSIONS Odd ratio of metabolic syndrome was significantly positively associated with serum uric acid concentration among the present sample of 5,628 subjects in Wuhan.

Abstract:OBJECTIVES:Hyperuricaemia is closely related to metabolic diseases and is receiving increasing attention from all over the world. This study aimed to investigate the prevalence and factors associated with hyperuricaemia in non-obese Chinese population.DESIGN:Retrospective cross-sectional study.SETTING:A large general hospital that can provide health check-ups in Hangzhou, China.PARTICIPANTS:A total of 5731 apparently healthy Chinese adults (2349 men and 3382 women) who took their health check-ups during the year of 2019.EXCLUSION CRITERIA:(1) those with body mass index ≥24 kg/m2; (2) those with incomplete anthropometric and biochemical data; (3) those with a history of malignancy and (4) those under urate-lowering treatment.PRIMARY AND SECONDARY OUTCOME MEASURES:The prevalence and factors associated with hyperuricaemia in non-obese Chinese adults.RESULTS:Of the 5731 non-obese subjects enrolled, 538 (9.4%) were identified as having hyperuricaemia, specifically 16.3% in men and 4.6% in women. The prevalence of hyperuricaemia markedly increased in women aged above 50 years. The prevalence of hyperuricaemia was significantly higher in metabolically unhealthy participants with normal weight than in metabolically healthy participants with normal weight. Participants with hyperuricaemia showed a higher prevalence of metabolic syndrome and fatty liver disease than participants with normouraemia. Age, waist circumference, estimated glomerular filtration rate, blood urea nitrogen, excessive drinking and fatty liver were associated with hyperuricaemia in both genders.CONCLUSION:The prevalence of hyperuricaemia was 9.4% in non-obese Chinese adults. Non-obese participants with hyperuricaemia also showed multiple metabolic disorders. We suggest that clinicians pay attention to serum uric acid level in non-obese patients.

Abstract:Objective To Objective To explore the prevalence of metabolic syndrome among individuals with different levels of uric acid.Methods Interview,physical examination and serological examination were carried out in a large-scale petrochemical enterprise.Metabolic syndrome was defined by the International Diabetes Federation(IDF2005)and Chinese Diabetes Society(CDS 2004).Results A total of 9543 subjects were surveyed,and 1289 of them had metabolic syndrome(12.3%).The prevalence rates of the metabolic syndrome were 10.0%,17.6% and 43.3% of the subjects whose uric acid levels were lower than 6 mg/dl,from 6 to 8 mg/dl,and higher than 8 mg/dl,respectively(by 2005 IDF).Conclusion Emphasis should be put on the increasing trend of metabolic syndrome along with the higher level of serum uric acid.

Abstract:ObjectiveIt has been reported that metabolic syndrome (MetS) has been associated with hyperuricemia. However, current findings have been inconclusive regarding the direction of this association. The objective of this study was to clarify the possible directional relationship between hyperuricemia and MetS.DesignThis study used two waves of data from the China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study (CHARLS) in 2011 and 2015 (N = 6,253, aged ≥40 years). Logistic regression and cross-lagged panel design were performed to evaluate the bidirectional association between uric acid with MetS. MetS score is defined as the number of MetS components present.ResultsNew-onset hyperuricemia and MetS were observed in a four-year follow-up study among 719 and 625 participants, respectively. A positive association was observed in the adjusted logistical regression model between baseline MetS score and new-onset hyperuricemia (P for trend <0.001), and also between baseline serum uric acid (SUA) and new-onset MetS (P for trend <0.001). Cross-lagged panel analysis indicated MetS score positively and prospectively predicted SUA, but not vice versa. After stratification by sex, we observed a strong, bidirectional relationship between MetS score and SUA indicating that diagnosis in one illness increased the risk of the other, both men and women. Moreover, this study also found that systolic blood pressure (P < 0.001) and triglycerides (P < 0.001) had a bidirectional relationship with SUA.ConclusionsThe results of this study indicated a bidirectional relationship between MetS and hyperuricemia.

Correlation of hyperuricemia in different age, gender patients with metabolism syndrome

Abstract:Objective To explore the correlation between hyperuricemia and metabolism syndrome in different age, gender patients. Methods One hundred and twenty-two patients with hyperuricemia which treated and diagnosed in our hospital from January 2007 to January 2010 were selected as research objects. Then the rates of obesity, hyperglycaemia, hypertension, high TG, low HDL-C, and metabolism syndrome were compared. The correlation between age, gender and metabolism syndrome was analyzed. Results The rates of obesity, hyperglycaemia, hypertension, high TG, low HDL-C, and metabolism syndrome of patients of ≥60 years old were higher than those of other age. The rates of obesity, hyperglycaemia, hypertension, high TG, low HDL-C, metabolism syndrome of male patients were higher than those of female patients. The correlation between age, gender and metabolism syndrome was significant. The differences were all statistically significant (P<0.05). Conclusion The metabolism syndrome and related indexes of different ages, gender patients with hyperuricemia has significant differences, and there is a obvious correlation between hyperuricemia and metabolism syndrome.

Abstract:Objective To investigate the relationship between Serum uric acid level and metabolic syndrome.Methods Total of 960 individuals,free of cardiovascular disease,with the average age 41.27 years old(721 men and 209 women)were enrolled,All participants were personally interviewed with a structured questionnaire and physical examination.We classified all participants on sex-specific quartiles of serum uric acid levels.The incidence of metabolic syndrome was investigated.Results The mean concentration of serum uric acid was significantly higher in patients with metabolic syndrome than in participants without metabolic syndrome.The prevalence of the metabolic syndrome was 5.8%,8.2%,16.7%,24.1% among participants in 4 groups respectively.After adjusting for age,gender,smoking status alcohol intake family history of diabetes,blood pressure,total cholesterol and blood glucose,the odds ratios(95% CI) of sex-specific quartiles of serum uric acid for metabolic syndrome were 2.24(1.05-4.76),P=0.036.Conclusions Serum uric acid level is significantly associated with metabolic syndrome.

Abstract:The incidence of hyperuricemia (HUA) is increasing year after year. HUA can cause damages of the people’s joints, kidneys, heart, eye and etc. and has become the second metabolic disease which seriously harms the human health following diabetes. HUA often accompanies with the occurrence of metabolic syndrome or its components, which shows that there is a close link of HUA with metabolic syndrome or its components. This article gives a summary on it and proposes a principle of the nutritional therapy for HUA.

Abstract:This study aimed to understand the prevalence of hyperuricemia and MetS in the United States and evaluate the potential effect of gender and ethnicity on hyperuricemia and MetS. Data was obtained from National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) between 2011 and 2018. Logistic regression analysis was utilized to investigate the association between hyperuricemia and MetS. A total of 7273 participants with an average age of 47.59 +/- 16.92 years old were enrolled in our analysis. Of all the people, 1833 were diagnosed with MetS, with which 547 (29.8 %) were found with hyperuricemia. As for gender, 261 (28.3 %) females were with both Mets and hyperuricemia and this number came to 286 (31.4 %) for males.For population distribution, Non-Hispanic American white, and Hispanic American making up 61.2 % of the cohort. The logistic regression analysis showed that there was a significant association between MetS and hyperuricemia (OR = 2.608, 95 %CI: 2.281-2.982). And the relationship still existed between both males (OR = 2.172, 95 %CI: 1.829-2.579) and females (OR = 3.464, 95 %CI: 2.868-4.185); in addition, participant's ethnicity was also found to play an important role. And the association was found either in Hispanic Americans Non-Hispanic Americans White and black or from other races. In conclusion, our study found a significant association between hyperuricemia and MetS. The higher the uric acid level, the greater risk of people getting MetS and this risk was not influenced by people's gender and ethnicity.

Correlation Between Metabolic Syndrome and Uric Acid Stone Composition

Abstract:Objective To study the relationship between metabolic syndromes and uric acid calculi.Methods We retrospectively analyzed medical records of 640 adult patients,who were diagnosed as renal calculi and finished the stone composition analysis.Among them,394 cases were male and 246 were female.The averagc age was (50.9 ± 12.8) years old.According to the diagnostic criteria of the MS,the patients were divided as metabolic syndrome group (metabolic syndrome group /MS group and non-metabolic syndrome group (non MS group);the MS group had a total of 238 cases including 151 males and 87 females.The average age was (54.1 ± 11.0) years old.There were 402 cases in non MS group,including 243 males and 159 females,with an average age of (49.1 ± 13.4) years old.We obtained corresponding metabolic indices.By comparing the differences between each group,the statistic were analyzed with SPSS.Results In the MS group,42 cases was diagnosed with uric acid stones,and the nonMS group with 8 cases diagnose with uric acid stones.The MS included obesity,elevated blood pressure,elevated fasting plasma glucose,high serum triglycerides.In the patients obtained,123 had the 4 kinds of metabolic diseases at a time,and 23 (18.7％) cases were diagnosed as uric acid stones.115 patients had the 3 kinds of metabolic diseases in which 19 (16.5％) cases were uric acid stones.190 patients had 2 kinds of metabolic diseases and 5(2.6％) cases were uric acid stones.137 patients had only one kinds of metabolic disease in which 3 were uric acid stones.The multivariate Logistic regression analysis showed that,after the correction of gender and age,obesity patients own the OR as 1.10(0.98-1.24)(P =0.018),high blood sugar had the OR as 1.72(1.19-1.92) (P =0.006),high glycerin three fat had the OR as 0.71(0.48-1.09) (P =0.032) and high HDL-C was 0.15(0.03-0.65) (P =0.01).Conclusions The metabolic syndromes including obesity,hyperglycemia and dyslipidemia obviously might influenced the formation of uric acid calculi.

Abstract:Objective: To examine the association of serum uric acid with metabolic syndrome in hospitalized type 2 diabetic patients. Methods: A total of 845 type 2 diabetic patients were recruited. Clinical and biochemical parameters were measured. Serum uric acid >420 μmol/L was defined as hyperuricemia in males, and >360 μmol/L in females. The diagnosis of metabolic syndrome was based on the definition of Chinese Diabetes Society. Results: The proportion of metabolic syndrome in hyperuricemic group and group with normal serum uric acid were 77.14% and 46.35%, respectively (P<0.001). The proportion of metabolic syndrome of quartile groups based on serum uric acid were 32.55%, 45.58%, 52.38% and 70.67%, respectively (P<0.001). The concentration of serum uric acid in groups with 1-4 components of metabolic syndrome were (239.88±6.46), (277.89±5.00), (301.38±5.42) and (330.74±7.99) μmol/L, respectively (P<0.001). Logistic regression demonstrated that the risk of metabolic syndrome in hyperuricemic subjects was 3.85-fold of those with normal serum uric acid adjusted for age and sex (OR=3.85, 95%CI 2.39-6.22, P<0.001). Conclusions: Serum uric acid was associated with metabolic syndrome in hospitalized type 2 diabetic patients, and the risk of metabolic syndrome was increased in hyperuricemic patients.
Association Between Different Metabolic Markers and Metabolic Syndrome in an Outpatient Hyperuricemia Population: A Cross-Sectional Study

Abstract:Background: Hyperuricemia (HUA) is often associated with metabolic syndrome (MetS). However, the role of different metabolic markers in the screening of MetS in out-patients with hyperuricemia is unclear. The study aims to investigate the relationship between different metabolic indexes and MetS. Methods: A total of 399 hyperuricemia patients from Tianjin Medical University General Hospital from 2022 to 2023 were included in this study. We collected demographic, anthropometric, and biochemical data on each subject. And calculate serum uric acid-to-creatinine ratio (SUA/Cr), serum uric acid to high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (UHR), triglyceride to high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (THR), and triglyceride and glucose (TyG) index. Binary logistic regression modeling was performed to explore the association between different metabolic markers and MetS. Results: Out of the 399 subjects, 28.3% had MetS. UHR, THR, and TyG index were significantly higher in the MetS group than those in the control group (p<0.05), which were associated with an increased risk of MetS. However, SUA/Cr was not associated with MetS (p>0.05). TyG index had a stronger relationship with the risk of MetS (OR 5.476, 95% CI 2.210-13.569, p<0.001). The cut-off with the biggest Youden index of the TyG index was 9.13 and the area under the curve (AUC) was 0.719. Conclusion: A high TyG index is associated with an increased risk of MetS in HUA patients. These findings might help screen MetS in individuals with HUA and could be more standardized management of patients with high uric acid in outpatient clinics.

Abstract:Objective To investigate the relationship between serum uric acid concentrations and the risk factors of metabolic syndrome and hemorheology.Methods A population-based cross-sectional survey on metabolic syndrome was performed in elderly population(≥ 70 years) in Suzhou.1,118 subjects were randomly chosen to detect their serum uric acid concentrations by the Uricase-Peroxidase methods.Results Correlation analysis demonstrated that serum uric acid level was positively correlated with waist circumference(r=0.33,P0.01),Systolic BP(r=0.25,P0.01),Diastolic BP(r=0.21,P0.01),serum triglyceride(r=0.30,P0.01),fasting blood glucose(r=0.13,P0.05),HOMA-IR index(r=0.32,P0.01),Blood high shear specific viscosity(r=0.21,P0.01),Blood low shear specific viscosity(r=0.17,P0.05),Plasma viscosity(r=0.30,P0.01),Fibrinogen(r=0.27,P0.01),Platelet aggregation rate(r=0.22,P0.01) and negatively correlated with high-density lipoprotein cholesterol(r=-0.09,P0.05).All subjects were divided into 4 groups according to serum uric acid quartiles and a comparison of the lowest and highest groups revealed that as serum uric acid concentration increased the incidence for hypertension also increased(46.3%,56.5%,58.2%,70.7%,for linear trend P0.01).In addition,the serum uric acid concentration and the levels of the blood rheology increased as the number of metabolic syndrome variables increased.Conclusions Serum uric acid concentration was found to be correlated with the risk factors of metabolic syndrome and the levels of the blood rheology.

Abstract:OBJECTIVE:To investigate the relationship between serum uric acid (UA) level and abdominal obesity or metabolic syndrome (MS).METHODS:A total of 875 subjects, with 350 males and 525 females, aged 40-65 years old, were enrolled in this study. The clinical and biochemical data were collected and MRI was used to assess the visceral and subcutaneous adipose tissues. The relationships between UA level and abdominal obesity or MS were analyzed, and the cut-off values of UA for abdominal obesity and MS were determined.RESULTS:Raised risks of abdominal obesity(OR = 4.35, 95%CI 1.91-9.90 in males; OR = 5.44, 95%CI 2.41-12.31 in females) and MS(OR = 4.47, 95%CI 2.08-9.62 in males; OR = 11.62, 95%CI 3.43-39.37 in females) were observed with the increase of UA level. The multiple logistic regression analysis showed that UA was an independent risk factor for hypertriglyceridemia(OR = 2.23, 95%CI 1.02-4.87 in males; OR = 3.04, 95%CI 1.49-6.23 in females) in all subjects and for abdominal obesity(OR = 3.23, 95%CI 1.32-7.91) and hypertension (OR = 2.35, 95%CI 1.37-4.05) in the females. Among the females, the regression line analyzed by simple correlation indicated that the UA level of 244.0 µmol/L was corresponded to the visceral adipose tissue area of 80 cm(2). The optimal cut-off point of UA for the diagnosis of MS was 258.8 µmol/L determined by the receiver operating characteristic curve.CONCLUSIONS:The level of UA is closely correlated with abdominal obesity and MS in the middle-aged Chinese. The elevated UA level is an independent risk factor for abdominal obesity and MS in the female.
