Abstract:To investigate the structure and performance of type Ⅰ collagen modified by polyethylene glycol( PEG),the FT- IR spectra,Differential Scanning Calorimheter( DSC),Atomic Force Microscope( AFM),degree of reaction, swelling rate and bib- ulous rate were adopted. The type Ⅰ collagen and PEG are basically combined by hydrogen bond, which is demonstrated from the FT- IR spectra. The DSC experiment shows with the increase of PEG dosage, the denaturation temperature falls and then rises. And the denaturation temperature of type Ⅰ collagen modified by polyethylene glycol is lower than that of pure type Ⅰ collagen. At the same time, with the increase of PEG dosage, the number of free amino and bibulous rate gradually reduces, and the degree of reaction increases gradually. In the swelling rate experiment,we found that the structure of type Ⅰ collagen is more stable after modified by PEG and the swelling rate decreases. Through the AFM experiment,we found that a lot of holes appear on the surface of type Ⅰ collagen- PEG composite sponge. And the distribution of holes becomes uniformer and more intensive with the increase of PEG dosage. This study illustrates that the compatibility between type Ⅰ collagen and PEG is good, and PEG is an excellent poreforming agent.
