Abstract:The synthesis of monocarborane sulfonamides is reported. The methodology relies on coupling of the anionic {CB 11 } boron cluster to sulfonyl azides. Under rhodium catalysis and with the assistance of a pyridine or pyrimidine directing group at the C1 position, the cluster undergoes B−H activation. Conditions have been identified that lead to B2‐selective mono‐sulfonamidation with concomitant loss of N 2 . The protocol requires no additional ligand, oxidant or base and enables B−N bond formation with various monocarborane and sulfonyl azide inputs. The new products possess the structure [1‐(heteroaryl)‐2‐(NHSO 2 Ar)−CB 11 H 10 ] − and have been fully characterized by NMR spectroscopy and mass spectrometry. In addition, three solid state structures confirm the particular B2 substitution pattern. Furthermore, the stoichiometric reaction of the pyridinyl monocarborane precursor with Rh(III) affords a cyclometalated complex with a direct B−Rh bond that has also been characterized by X‐ray crystallography.

Abstract:The reaction of o-aminoacetophenones and arylboronic acids catalyzed by copper(II) salts in the presence of pyridine under an O2 atmosphere provides a general and efficient one-pot preparation of biologically interesting acridones. This relay reaction comprises an intermolecular Suzuki cross-coupling, intramolecular oxidative C(sp3)-H amination, and C(sp2)-H activation with simultaneous rearrangement of the generated isatin intermediates. This strategy tolerates both electron-donating and -withdrawing functionalities to afford various acridones in good to excellent yields.

Abstract:An efficient approach to sulfones through a reaction of aryldiazonium tetrafluoroborates, sulfur dioxide, and aryliodonium tetrafluoroborates under metal-free conditions is reported. Abstract:Novel C-2-symmetrical bissulfonamide ligands were easily prepared in three simple steps and applied in the enantioselective addition of alkynylzinc reagents to aldehydes. Compound 7a was found to be an outstanding ligand for this reaction. When the catalyst loading, 4 mol % of 7a, was used, high enantioselectivity with an ee value up to 97% was achieved under very mild conditions. When the amount of ligand 7a was lowered to 2 mol %, excellent levels of enantiocontrol up to 95% ee were still achieved. So far the most economic catalyst system was developed for the addition of terminal alkynes to aromatic aldehydes in terms of ligand loading and enantioselectivity. Moreover, ligand 7a in combination with Ti(O-i-Pr)(4) was found to be effective in promoting the addition reaction of an alkynylzinc reagent to unactivated simple ketones under very mild conditions. The corresponding chiral tertiary propargylic alcohols were obtained with enantiomeric excesses of up to 81%.

Abstract:Bis(alkynyl)silanes react with low valent zirconocene species to afford zircon cyclobutene intermediates. These in situ generated reactive organometallic intermediates can react with alkynes, ketones, aldehydes, and isocyanates by means of a novel skeletal rearrangement. When a zirconacy-clobutene intermediate was treated with an alkyne, an alpha-alkynylsilyl zirco-nacyclopentadiene was formed. Addition of dimethyl acetylenedicarboxylate (DMAD) and CuCl resulted in one-pot formation of an alkynylsilyl-benzene derivative from three different alkynes. At a higher temperature, the alpha-alkynyl-silylzirconacyclopentadiene was transformed by means of an intramolecular skeletal rearrangement to a zirconacy-clohexadiene-silacyclobutene fused-ring compound, which reacted with DMAD in the presence of CuCl affording the same alkynylsilyl-benzene derivative. When treated with a ketone, an aldehdye, or an isocyanate, the zirconocyclobutene intermediate also underwent the above-mentioned skeletal rearrangement, generating zirconocene-mediated cross-coupling products.

Abstract:Novel chiral bis(oxazoline) ligands bearing dibenzo[a,c]cycloheptadiene and a dihydroxy group have been synthesized and their application in the catalytic asymmetric addition of diethylzinc to aldehydes investigated. Abstract:Reactions of alkynes with [Cp2Zr(1-butene)(DMAP)] (DMAP = 4-(dimethylamino)pyridine) and chlorophosphines afforded zirconoalkenylphosphines in good to high yields, and their molecular structures were determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. Abstract:The t-BuCN-stabilized zirconacyclopropene-azasilacyclopentadiene complexes 2 are generated in situ in high yields from the Si-tethered diynes, Cp(2)Zr(II) species, and 2 equiv of t-BuCN via a coordination-induced Zr-C/Si-C bond cleavage and reorganization. Complexes 2 have been demonstrated to be synthetically very useful. A variety of novel Zr/Si organo-bimetallic compounds and Si/N heterocyclic compounds, such as azasilacyclopentadienes, azasilacyclohexadienes, and allenylazazirconacycles, are obtained in high yields when complexes 2 are treated with ketones, carbodiimides, alkynes, elemental sulfur (S(8)), acid chlorides, or nitriles. In this chemistry, t-BuCN behaves as both an initiator and a brake/release handle to initiate and control the reaction process.

Abstract:A highly efficient asymmetric arylation of cyclic N-sulfonyl aldimines with arylboronic acids catalyzed by a rhodium/sulfur-olefin ligand complex under mild conditions is described. A wide range 4-aryl-3,4-dihydro-1,2,3-benzoxathiazine 2,2-dioxides were obtained in extremely high yields (93-99%) and high enantiomeric purities (97-99% ee).

Abstract:A novel and highly efficient methodology for the synthesis of 2,4,6‐triaryl‐1,3,5‐triazines and 2,4,6‐trisubstituted pyrimidines from amidines and alcohols has been established. Using the Earth‐abundant and air‐stable chromium salt catalyst and the phosphine‐free ligand, the developed Cr‐catalyzed acceptorless dehydrogenative coupling provides 1,3,5‐triazines and pyrimidines with high yields and good functional group tolerance. Moreover, the synthetic value of this operationally simple protocol was demonstrated by gram‐scale experiment and the synthesis of the linker to construct various supramolecular complexes.
