Abstract:Permutation polynomials over finite fields constitute an active research area and have applications in many areas of science and engineering. In this paper, four classes of monomial complete permutation polynomials and one class of trinomial complete permutation polynomials are presented, one of which confirms a conjecture proposed by Wu et al. (Sci China Math 58:2081–2094, 2015 ). Furthermore, we give two classes of permutation trinomial, and make some progress on a conjecture about the differential uniformity of power permutation polynomials proposed by Blondeau et al. (Int J Inf Coding Theory 1:149–170, 2010 ).

Abstract:In this talk we give a survey of results and methods on some combinatorial sums involving binomial coefficients and related to Bernoulli and Euler polynomials. We will also talk about certain sums of minima and maxima related to Dedekind sums. Some interesting identities associated with the various sums will also be introduced. 1. Abstract:Let G be a finite abelian group with |G| > 1. Let a (1), aEuro broken vertical bar, a (k) be k distinct elements of G and let b (1), aEuro broken vertical bar, b (k) be (not necessarily distinct) elements of G, where k is a positive integer smaller than the least prime divisor of |G|. We show that there is a permutation pi on {1, aEuro broken vertical bar,k} such that a (1) b (pi(1)), aEuro broken vertical bar, a (k) b (pi(k)) are distinct, provided that any other prime divisor of |G| (if there is any) is greater than k!. This in particular confirms the Dasgupta-Karolyi-Serra-Szegedy conjecture for abelian p-groups. We also pose a new conjecture involving determinants and characters, and show that its validity implies Snevily's conjecture for abelian groups of odd order. Our methods involve exterior algebras and characters.

Abstract:The famous Erdős–Heilbronn conjecture plays an important role in the development of additive combinatorial number theory. In 2007 Z.W. Sun made the following further conjecture (which is the linear extension of the Erdős–Heilbronn conjecture): For any finite subset A of a field F and nonzero elements a1,…,an of F, we have|{a1x1+⋯+anxn:x1,…,xn∈A,andxi≠xjifi≠j}|⩾min{p(F)−δ,n(|A|−n)+1}, where the additive order p(F) of the multiplicative identity of F is different from n+1, and δ∈{0,1} takes the value 1 if and only if n=2 and a1+a2=0. In this paper we prove this conjecture of Sun when p(F)⩾n(3n−5)/2. We also obtain a sharp lower bound for the cardinality of the restricted sumset{x1+⋯+xn:x1∈A1,…,xn∈An,andP(x1,…,xn)≠0}, where A1,…,An are finite subsets of a field F and P(x1,…,xn) is a general polynomial over F.

Abstract:In 1913 A. Fleck proved that if p is a prime, and n > 0 and r are integers then ∑ k≡r (mod p) (n k ) (−1) ≡ 0 ( mod pb(n−1)/(p−1)c ) . Only recently the significance of Fleck’s congruence was realized. It plays a fundamental role in Colmez’ and Wan’s investigation of the ψ-operator related to Fontaine’s theory and p-adic Langlands correspondence. In this talk we give a survey of the recent developments of Fleck’s congruence and its various extensions, as well as some important applications to Stirling numbers of the second kind and homotopy exponents of special unitary groups given by Davis and the speaker. STUDY COVERS OF GROUPS VIA CHARACTERS AND NUMBER THEORY

Abstract:Tools from number theory and algebra are very helpful in the study of some combinatorial problems. What is the smallest positive integer k such that an abelian group G can be irredundantly covered by k cosets of subgroups one of which has index n? We will talk about the solution to this combinatorial problem provided by G. Lettl and the speaker via characters of abelian groups and algebraic number theory. The Herzog-Schonheim conjecture asserts that if a group G is partitioned into k > 1 left cosets a1G1,... ,akGk then the indices (G : G1),... ,(G : Gk) cannot be distinct. We will also introduce the speaker's approach to the Herzog-Schonheim conjecture via analytic number theory and some combinatorial arguments. Some related conjectures will be also mentioned in the talk.

Part A consists of 100 unsolved conjectures of the author while conjectures in Part B have been recently confirmed. Abstract:Recently, Dixit et al. established a very elegant generalization of Hardy's Theorem concerning the infinitude of zeros that the Riemann zeta function possesses at its critical line. By introducing a general transformation formula for the theta function involving the Bessel and Modified Bessel functions of the first kind, we extend their result to a class of Dirichlet series satisfying Hecke's functional equation. In the process, we also find new generalizations of classical identities in Analytic number theory.

Abstract:In this paper we investigate some new problems in additive combinatorics.Our problems mainly involve permutations (or circular permutations) n distinct numbers (or elements of an additive abelian group) a1,…,an with adjacent sums ai + ai+1 (or differences ai-ai+1) pairwise distinct.For an odd prime power q =2n + 1 ＞ 13 with q ≠ 25,we show that there is a circular permutation (a1,…,an) of the elements of S={a2 : a∈(F)q\{0}} such that {a1+a2,…,an-1+an,an+a1} =S,where (F)q denotes the field of order q.For any finite subset A of an additive torsion-free abelian group G with |A| =n ＞ 3,we prove that there is a numbering a1,…,an of the elements of A such that a1 + 2a2,a2 + 2a3,…,an-1 + 2an,an + 2a1 are pairwise distinct.We also pose 30 open conjectures for further research.

Abstract:In July 2005, D. M. Davis posted several original numbertheoretic conjectures arising from his investigation of homotopy exponents of the special unitary group SU(n). The recent study of these conjectures and their generalizations by the author and Davis led to a strong lower bound for the homotopy p-exponent of SU(n), as well as a number of new combinatorial congruences some of which extend vastly some classical congruences (such as Lucas’ theorem) concerning binomial coefficients.
