Abstract:According with urban economy's rapid development,there is a common characteristic appearing in many China cities which is speed of urbanization in these cities is growing faster and faster.Then,a number of historical culture cities are rethinking a question what is how to making their conservation more effective in progress of modernization in China.This article takes Hangzhou as an example,first,compares two different conservation methods between Hangzhou and Suzhou;then,finds reasons why Hangzhou cannot conserve its historical cultural resources effectively by using the old city rebuilding conservation method;after that,analyses relationship between economic development and urban space structure;finally,deduces conclusion that conservation of a old city must depends on developing of a new city.With contribution of leisure economy development,the historical cultural city-Hangzhou could achieve a wonderful consequence that is the old city feeds on itself.

Abstract:By investigating the Hubiancun Historical Blocks in Hangzhou,this paper analysed its spatial characteristics,place spirit,and the effects on the inhabitants' behavior and well-being.The spatial characteristics of Hubiancun Historical Blocks include distinction on spatial level,humanization on spatial scale and diversification on spatial form.Place spirit of Hubiancun Historical Blocks includes carrying the culture and identifiable and strong.The space of blocks could promote the sense of community identity and attachment.

Abstract:The construction of historical and cultural blocks in ancient cities is a new direction for the development of tourism in historical and cultural cities. As the core of the famous historical and cultural city of Zhangzhou and an important window of the city's image, the ancient city of Zhangzhou plays a decisive role in the development of Zhangzhou. This article is based on the theoretical study of Kevin Lynch's "Image of the City", and analyzes the spatial form of the ancient city of Zhangzhou from the material form (roads, boundaries, areas, nodes and landmarks) and spiritual form (specialty snacks, traditional operas, handicrafts) ), conducting a study on the individual characteristics and overlapping characteristics of the image elements, revealing that the image elements of Zhangzhou ancient city need to coordinate with each other to ensure the integrity and distinctiveness of the ancient city's characteristics, promote the sustainable development of the ancient city's spatial form, and have an impact on the overall spatial system and human environment of the ancient city.

A Comparative Study of Public Space Forms Inside and Outside Beijing's Old City: Taking the Area Around Deshengmen As an Example

Abstract:From "organic growth" following traditional planning ideas to "order reconstruction" influenced by modern urban planning, public space has different connotations and morphological representations in different stages of urban development. This paper takes the area around Deshengmen, which connects the traditional district inside Beijing's Old City and the modern district outside Beijing's Old City, as an example, and conducts a comparative study of the public space forms formed in different periods with different social contexts. Based on the meaning of public space, this paper draws a figure-ground map of the Deshengmen area and analyzes morphological indexes at three scales: 1) shape index analysis of the basic units of public space based on the principle of "convex space" of space syntax; 2) analysis of the Perimeter Area Fractal Dimension and Landscape Division Index of continuous public space and non-public space forms; 3) analysis of the global and local integration of public space in the whole area around Deshengmen. The results show that the proportion of public space to urban space remains consistent in two districts, but the traditional district have smaller and more numerous basic units of public space, and more continuous and winding public space patterns, showing better levels of global integration, while the modern district have more concentrated and complete patterns of non-public space. In summary, present paper investigates the similarities and differences of public space morphology between traditional and modern urban space, revealing the morphological influence of different urban development concepts.

Abstract:Spatial narrative is an emerging theory of Narratology since Joseph Frank proposed it in 1945. Point Omega is one of Don Delillo’s work, completed in 2010, mainly tells stories about two persons: a nameless person alone in museum exhibition hall to watch a silent film and a high-level war adviser Richard Elster, away from the city in seclusion in the desert. This paper use spatial narrative to analyze the theme of Point Omega, which is divided into four parts: the first part briefly introduces spatial narrative and Point Omega; in the second part, the literature in China and others of spatial narrative and Omega Point are reviewed; in the third part, the text is interpreted from three aspects of spatial narrative, physical form, text structure and narrative perspective; the fourth part summarizes how the novel reflects the influence of the concept of time on people’s lives.

Abstract:Langzhong,an ancient city in Sichuan,is a famous historic and cultural city in China.The study on its spatial configuration,which is made on the basis of literature and historical data,shows that consideration was given to the need for"defense by selecting a place difficult to access"in site se- lection and was guided by the Confucian idea of "Looking through selection".The idea in planning of the ancient city is influenced by the theory of geomantic omen.The streets are arranged in the shape of a chessboard.The administrative organs are arranged in the prominent place in the city and facilities for offering sacrifice and human facilities are arranged outside the city with proper division of function and performance.
