Abstract:Architecture is a kind of art and the substance of architecture lies in space. Based on the change of light and shadow the plane and elevation scheme of the school history Museum was designed in detail. When the space of building is no longer drawn conclusion with the traditional entity enclosing, light gives architectural space new vitality, and creates a variety of architectural space artistic conception. The different architectural mood which is brought about by the change of light and shadow is analyzed and compared. The result shows the art of light and shadow should be embodied constantly during the design. These can provide valuable references for initial architectural scheme design.

Abstract:As one kinds of art, light installation art has attracted more and more attention. For this reason, this paper mainly introduces the occurrence, development and application of the light installation art in the recent years. With the development of lighting technology, some new light source and materials have been adopted for the design of light installation art, which greatly enrich the design concepts of light installation art design. Aesthetic Complementarities of the East and the West Expressed in Ieoh Ming Pei’s Architectural Language

Abstract:This study was intended to derive architectural characteristics which constitutes mutual complementarities from the viewpoint of modern architecture, where the aesthetics of the East and the West are merged, by extracting aesthetic elements of the East and the West expressed through the time and space of Ieoh Ming Pei's architecture. The complementarities of aesthetic thoughts of the East and the West expressed in Ieoh Ming Pei's architectural language was derived sequentially in order of 'the temporality by the variability' in 1970s, 'the circulation by the repeatability' in the mid-1980s, 'the monument by eco-friendly' from the late-1980s to mid-1990s and 'The abstractness of the traditional beauty by the recovery of relationship with the periphery' from the late-1990s to 2000s These complementarities are the chronological and spatial characteristics of architecture which surpasses the existing individual aesthetic recognition of the East and the West, in that the thoughts of the East and the West are coexistence in modern architecture. Accordingly it was confirmed that the aesthetic conflicts between the background emotion of the thoughts of the East where Pei was born and raised and the western architecture is not the conflict between aesthetics of the East and the West, but mutual complementary value.

Abstract:The research extracted a part of the teaching accomplishment, sur ounding with the interior and exterior space of “Takatori Paper Church” of Shigeru Ban, firstly introducing the constructed background and basic situation that it had been built as an experimental architecture after the earthquake; then interpreting the spatial order and constitute principle by inducing and teasing the spatial limited elements, program, and circulation;and lastly analyzed and concluded the four characteristics of the paper church: orientation, fluidity, gradual change, and hierarchy.

Abstract:There are lots to be learned from Xia Changshi’s works by applying local Lingnan characteristics into modern constructions. This paper using the shading devices Xia Changshi designed for Zhongshan University Hospital as an example, and analyzes them from the perspective of building technology, in order to make a general thermal performance assessment. The analysis proves that Xia’s shading devices perform well in reducing solar radiation, meanwhile also provide general consideration on its affects on internal lighting and ventilating conditions.
