Abstract:Pragmatics is the basic theory about language application.Pragmatic competence is the competence to understand and use language in specific context.Teacher adopting proper measure to strengthen students' pragmatic competence on the basis of certain language competence can obtain preferable effect.Material measures include enhancing the impartation of pragmatic knowledge,carring through context teaching,carring out culture introduction,utilizing fully all kinds of teaching resources.After accepting proper pragmatic training,students may avoid pragmatic misplay to a great extent,reduce ill influence brought by pragmatic misplay,realize favoring communication with the second language.

Abstract:Pragmatic competence is to the ability to use language appropriately and effectively, which is a significant component of communicative competence. As one of the important factors in individual differences, learning motivation has a certain impact on the cultivation of pragmatic competence. This research explores the relationship between English pragmatic competence and learning motivation, and finds the correlation between them. The research findings have important implications for pragmatic teaching, and suggestions were proposed based on the specific situation of students' English pragmatic competence.

Abstract:Pragmatic competence is an indispensable element of communicative competence, which is also one goal of core competencies. The introduction of the concept of core competency in General Senior High School English Curriculum Standards puts more emphasis on cultivating students’ pragmatic competence and on teachers’ input of pragmatic knowledge in English teaching. This paper begins with clarifying the theories of pragmatic competence and pragmatic failure by referring to other linguists’ explanations. Then, it briefly discusses the importance of pragmatic teaching in senior high school English classrooms. Finally, this paper proposes some feasible teaching strategies to promote high school students’ pragmatic competence.

Abstract:A survey of English pragmatic competence is administered to some non English majors from Central South University.The outcome has confirmed that the subjects have made little progress in pragmatic competence and become the victims of pragmatic competence fossilization over two year college English learning.Based on this survey,the author gives some tentative suggestions on how to improve learners pragmatic competence in college English teaching from the perspectives of testing,curricula,oral English teaching and teacher training.

Abstract:Textbooks are an integral part of teaching and learning in Chinese College English classroom.However,they rarely provide adequate pragmatic information for students to successfully develop their pragmatic competence.This study will examine four College English(New) Listening and Speaking textbooks to find out the nature of pragmatic materials and tasks included in the textbooks.The findings indicate that there is a dearth of pragmatic information contained in the Listening and Speaking textbooks and the variety of pragmatic information is limited.Most of the metapragmatic explanations are simple.

Abstract:As we all know, a language learner is apt, owing to a gap in competence, to commit a grammatical error, and a non native speaker may, owing to a misjudgement in performance, commit a pragmatic failure. According to this generalization, language learners or non native speakers have the problems of both competence and performance. Therefore, it is the task of language teaching to solve these problems. As a result, the learner will be less likely to commit errors and more apt to perform appropriately. It is the purpose of this paper to reassess the notion of the underlying competence as an ingredient of communicative competence, and to relate reassessment to the role of grammar and lexis, or 'lexicogrammar', as well as the concerns of language teaching.

Abstract:EFL learners' development of pragmatic competence,an important part of communicative language ability,has drawn more and more researchers' attention in recent years.This paper examines the teaching videos of 22 contestants recorded in the 2010 First SFLEP Cup National College English Teaching Contest(Shanghai Session) and makes a detailed pragmatic analysis.It aims to find out the nature and models of pragmatic teaching at the university level in Shanghai.The findings will offer some empirical support for further research in pragmatic teaching and learning.

Abstract:Based on the theory of pragmatic failure,this paper studies the non-English majors'actual state of oral pragmatic competence through empirical research.Results reveal that the rates of pragmalinguistic failure and sociopragmatic failure are higher than those in He-Yan's research in 1986.After more than 20-year's English teaching reform and development,the pragmatic failure is still a big problem.Teachers' weak sense of pragmatics,the ignorance of their functions as models and the negligence in the textbook compilation while input and the lack of cultural and contextual knowledge,the negative transfer of mother tongue and the limitation of register selective competence while output are the main reasons of oral pragmatic failures.Based on these reasons,pragmatic teaching and cultural teaching are brought up.

Abstract:The objective of College English teaching is to develop students' comprehensive communicative competence, including pragmatic competence and intercultural sensitivity. Through the quantitative-descriptive research method, the study explored pragmatic competence and intercultural sensitivity of Chinese EFL learners and tested whether the respondents’ pragmatic competence and intercultural sensitivity are significantly correlated with each other. The results reveals that Chinese EFL learners were at the intermediate level of overall pragmatic competence and intercultural sensitivity. The correlations between respondents’ pragmatic competence and intercultural sensitivity were highly significant. The results of the study may give enlightenment on the cultivation of Chinese EFL learners’ communicative competence.

Abstract:The college English pragmatic teaching approach, which seeks to foster students' English for all-round growth, is constantly developing with the ongoing development and improvement of education in China. As a result, during the implementation of college English pragmatic teaching, teachers realized their educational responsibility and implemented the mixed teaching style in a reasonable manner [1]. English pragmatic teaching content has grown in depth, enhancing students' perceptions of learning and allowing them to participate more fully in knowledge acquisition. Furthermore, it creates a solid basis for college students' follow-up English level exams, allowing them to steadily develop their English thinking abilities. This study focuses on the mixed-methods reform of college English pragmatic teaching. The author puts forward reasonable suggestions combined with his own teaching experience.
