Abstract:The English Curriculum Standards for Senior High School (2017 edition) put forward that the quality of thinking should be regarded as one of the core qualities of English subjects, and students should be cultivated in the aspects of logic, criticism and innovation. Therefore, the cultivation of students' thinking quality cannot be neglected in teaching. As one of the important parts of listening, speaking, reading, writing and reading, English reading plays an important role in high school English teaching, and reading is an important way to train students' thinking quality. It is suggested that teachers should integrate language learning, content learning and thinking quality development into the process of students actively exploring the meaning of the topic.

Abstract:This paper briefly summarizes the general requirements of the new curriculum for the cultivation of cultural awareness in English public speaking courses. This paper further analyzes and studies the basic situation of cultural awareness training in college English public speaking courses and some classroom strategies to strengthen cultural awareness training. It mainly includes the study of vocabulary and English idioms, the interpretation of teaching materials, the learning of some tutoring resources, and the development of diversified teaching modes, so as to comprehensively improve teachers' cultural quality and awareness. Abstract:: The cultivation of students’ thinking quality is an important part of the cultivation of students’ key competences, which reflects students’ cognitive ability and thinking level in logic, criticism, innovation and other aspects. In English teaching, reading is a process of learning language knowledge, mastering language skills, cultivating cultural consciousness and developing thinking quality. Therefore, reading teaching is the most direct and effective way to cultivate students’ thinking quality. Junior high school students already have some independent thinking ability, so teachers should attach importance to develop students’ thinking ability in English reading teaching. This paper analyzes how to cultivate students’ thinking quality in junior high school English reading teaching from three perspectives of logical, critical and innovative thinking, and puts forward some classroom teaching strategies to optimize English reading teaching, give play to the educational value of English language subject and cultivate students’ English thinking.

Abstract:Language and culture are always closely mingled together and sophisticatedly interact with each other. Language is a main expression of culture; meanwhile language is a carrier of culture. There is no language without the influence of culture. Therefore, it is imperative to integrate culture education with language teaching, have students understand different culture through the introduction of cultural knowledge, comparison of cultural phenomenon and cultivation of students’ cultural awareness from the aspects of typical cultural difference including value, national psychological characteristics, thought pattern and connotation of vocabulary and idioms. When carrying out language teaching, teachers should provide students more materials and references related to western culture at the same time of exploring cultural points in textbooks, and designing more class activities, such as role-play and mini drama, comparison and contrast, holding parties on western festivals, etc. to widen students’ cultural horizon and thereby develop students’ cross-cultural communicative competence in order to get acclimatized to the new world that is increasingly globalized and internationalized. Abstract:Production-Oriented Approachwith Chinese characteristics is the latest feedback of foreign language teaching theory supporting classroom practice in recent years. Based on the practice of college English class, it shows students' basic attitude and evaluation results in cultivating their individual thinking ability, which can promote the continuous improvement of foreign language teaching theory. As college English teaching adopts the "Production-Oriented Approach", it can not only stimulate students' interest in learning English, but also cultivate students' ability of information analysis and processing, rational presentation of personal views, raising and solving problems and thinking quality of listening to others. Therefore, this paper studies the practical effect of using Production-Oriented Approach to cultivate students' key English learning abilities, so as to promote the overall improvement of students' English personality, quality and practical skills in English application.

Abstract:Critical thinking ability is a higher-order thinking ability that college students should master. As the future pillars of the country, the cultivation of critical thinking ability is particularly significant for college students. How to improve college students’ critical thinking ability has become a focus of attention in the education sector in recent years. English, as an internationally recognized language, has become the important tool for international communication. College English teaching is not only about imparting language knowledge, but also an important way to cultivate students' critical thinking and cross-cultural communication skills. This article takes college English teaching as the research object, guided by the concept of critical thinking ability, analyzes the current situation and reveals the problems of college English teaching in China. In order to improve the students’ English application ability and comprehensive quality, teachers should combine theory and practice to propose a practical and feasible mode for cultivating college students' critical thinking ability.

Abstract:The English curriculum based on the cultivation of key competences in the Subject of English should cultivate students’ key competence in four aspects, namely, language ability, cultural awareness, thinking quality and learning ability. The English Teaching Approach of “Integrating Reading and Writing to Promote Learning through Writing” creates a language environment suitable for Chinese foreign language learners. Through the teaching process of integrating reading and writing, students are trained to master basic English knowledge and skills, appreciate excellent cultures, learn to apply critical thinking and innovative thinking, and acquire how to learn independently. This teaching approach provides a theoretical and practical teaching platform and starting point for the real implementation of the curriculum goal of “the Cultivation of Key Competences in the Subject of English”, which is helpful to achieve the national education goal of “strengthening moral education and cultivating people”.

Abstract:The newly issued National Standards by the Ministry of National Education for the Quality of Foreign Language and Literature Teaching (hereinafter referred to as the “National Standards”) clearly points out that the curriculum system of foreign language majors should emphasize the cultivation of competences and the construction of professional knowledge, especially the cultivation of cross-cultural, critical, and innovative abilities. Therefore, in order to enhance college students’ autonomous study ability and cross-cultural skills, this study, based on the concepts of content and language integration, aims to explore the way to combine Willis’ outline of procedure for task-based learning with the five principles of intercultural teaching, and utilize task-based teaching method, and rely on the course—“British and American Culture: A Course to Develop Critical Thinking from a cross-cultural perspective” to respectively consider the design of autonomous study worksheets for English majors before, during, and after class, so as to improve their autonomous learning ability, cultural critical thinking and intercultural communication skills. It will be helpful for the implementation of similar courses.

Abstract:Based on people-oriented moral education, the Key Competency of Chinese Students’ Development highlights the importance of cultivating students’ key competency, which means that students should have the essential character and core ability to adjust lifelong development and meet the demand of social development. According to the High School English Curriculum Standard (2017 Edition), key competency in English refers to language ability, thinking quality, cultural character and learning ability. And on the basis of multiliteracies pedagogy, linguistic symbols and non-linguistic symbols are combined together to create a multimodal teaching environment. And students will obtain new knowledge through four main stages: situated practice, overt instruction, critical framing and transferred practice, leading students mobilize their multiple senses together when learning English and help improve their comprehensive competence, which is in line with cultivating students’ key competency in English. This paper will firstly make a brief introduction of key competency in English based on the High School English Curriculum Standard (2017 Edition) and analyze typical views of multiliteracies pedagogy, then take the reading passage, Learning English from Unit5 Languages around the World, compulsory I, PEP as an example, applying multiliteracies pedagogy to English class, in order to cultivate students’ key competency in English to some extent through multiliteracy training.

Abstract:The objective of College English teaching is to develop students' comprehensive communicative competence, including pragmatic competence and intercultural sensitivity. Through the quantitative-descriptive research method, the study explored pragmatic competence and intercultural sensitivity of Chinese EFL learners and tested whether the respondents’ pragmatic competence and intercultural sensitivity are significantly correlated with each other. The results reveals that Chinese EFL learners were at the intermediate level of overall pragmatic competence and intercultural sensitivity. The correlations between respondents’ pragmatic competence and intercultural sensitivity were highly significant. The results of the study may give enlightenment on the cultivation of Chinese EFL learners’ communicative competence.
