Abstract:A harmonious society should coordinate the two relationships: the one between man and man, and the other between man and nature, but the present mode of forestry development only focused on the latter. This article indicated that the mode must be adjusted under the background of constructing a harmonious society in China. The former part of this paper analyzes the role of forestry development in a harmonious society, and the latter part shows how the forestry mode should be developed at six different aspects such as the goal, strategic role, extension, management model, forest tenure reform, ecological value, etc.

Abstract:Using field survey data gathered from seven villages in Youxi County in southern China and a list of famous and ancient trees and groves, this study explored the cultural roots and ecological interpretations of village fengshui forests. The results show as follows: the species of fengshui trees selected by Chinese rural villagers bear a symbolic meaning, including health, longevity, flourishing population, fortune, and wealth. Fengshui belief, clan system, village rules and regulations, fengshui worship tradition, and customs have all played important roles in villagers’ planting and conservation of fengshui forests. It is suggested that the government should recognize the cultural and ecological value of fengshui forests and integrate the local rules and village regulations into the current policy frameworks to improve fengshui (culturally preserved) forests management with favourable polices such as subsidies and conservation strategy. China’s fengshui forests suggest the cultural importance of ecosystem services from forests, and the role of culture in forest conservation.

Abstract:Forest Certification is also called FSC Certification or Wood Certification,which benefits promoting the integration of international trade,expanding the foreign trade and building the Trinity of Ecological Civilization. Currently,many problems occur,so we should do something to promote the healthy development as follows:strengthening the international exchange and cooperation to establish a mutual recognition system with FSC early; strengthening the government regulation to regulate the market; deepening the collective forest tenure reform and speeding up the construction of forestry information; providing the policy support for forestry exporters; Striving for FSC Certification and avoiding the market over-concentration; and playing the role of forestry associations fully.

Abstract:Local voices on forest conservation are often ignored in authoritarian regimes, which presents a challenge to sound and fair policy-making. In this political ecology study, we explore the preferences and priorities of the forest-dependent communities toward forest conservation policies in Daxing'anling Prefecture, China. Our analysis focuses on two aspects of forest conservation closest to local interests: (1) the socio-economic impact of conservation and (2) the transition strategies. From the analysis, we illustrate the benefits of a more participatory approach to forest conservation in China by envisioning a bottom-up conservation program.

Abstract:The integrated protection and restoration project of mountains-rivers-forests-farmlands-lakes-grasslands-sand in the Oujiang River source area of Zhejiang Province is the first batch of pilot projects of integrated protection and restoration of mountainsrivers-forests-farmlands-lakes-grasslands-sand in China. Adhering to the concept of "mountains, rivers, forests, farmlands, lakes and grasslands are the community of life", focusing on the theme of "respecting nature and living in harmony", the project concentrates on biodiversity conservation goals, implements the Nature based Solutions（NbS） thinking mode and eco-intelligent supervision mode,and explores the high-quality green development path of harmonious coexistence between human and nature. This project also puts forward the technical chain of "problem diagnosis-cause analysis-goal setting-project planning-performance evaluation-operation,maintenance and management" and the selection standards of reference system, following this, it makes targeted deployment for five categories of ecological protection and restoration projects, including important ecosystem and biodiversity protection and restoration,water ecological protection and restoration, land protection and restoration, forest ecological protection and restoration, and digital empowerment and intelligent supervision. At the same time, it explores the internal logic of the practice of "landscape engineering" and the harmonious coexistence between man and nature.

Abstract:Urban forest is a very important part of urban ecosystems and provides significant ecosystem services. It benefits urban communities environmentally, aesthetically, recreationally and economically. This article reviews the development status, development patterns and influencing factors of urban forest in China. There are four typical development patterns of urban forest in China: the forest city, garden city, ecological economics and forest greenbelt. Social, climatic, economic and other factors influence urban forest development in China. Social factors include government behaviour, laws and regulations, science and technology, education and culture, public awareness and participation, ecological planning and management. Climatic factors include rainfall, temperature and sunlight. Economic factors include urban economic level and funding for urban forest. In future, government, NGOs and the private sector should be considered more in the planning and management of urban forest. The social, climatic and economic factors should be taken into account when improving urban forest management. Research on urban forest from the academic and the management viewpoint should be strengthened. This can improve the development and management of urban forest in China and in other developing countries.

Abstract:Desertification has become such a serious issue that there is a pressing need for us to resolve it immediately. Nearly 20 percent of China's land territory has turned to desertified land due to natural and human factors, and overall desertification continues worsen. The policy of forest exploitation and monoculture in China is the primary cause that has led to disastrous consequences, including degradation of forests and landscapes, serious soil erosion and catastrophic flooding, and especially deforestation. In order to resolve this desertification and realize the sustainable development of forestry, the Chinese government has begun to modify Chinese forest policies and make a series of plans and programs on forest resources and combating desertification. Hence there have been many statutes with provisions relating to forest conservation. Although since the "reform and opening", much has been done in reforming Chinese forest policy, the situation of the desertification is still worsening. In this paper, we will analyze the relationship between the desertification and current Chinese forest policy in order to develop an adequate forest policy system to control and resolve the desertification and to realize sustainable development of the environment in China.
