Self-forming dynamic membrane bioreactor for treatment of low C/N ratio wastewater

Abstract:Under aerobic condition, a self-forming dynamic membrane bioreactor was used for the treatment of septic tank wastewater at HRT=5 h, the membrane flux=17~19 L/(m2·h) and the COD/NH+4-N= 0.56~2.22. The removal efficiency of COD was 70% initially and decreased to 40% later. The NH+4-N removal was about 60.0%. A major part of NH+4-N was oxidized to nitrite as evidenced by a low nitrate level in the effluent while the nitrite level increased in the reactor.
