A Breakthrough in Press Reports of Sudden Disastrous Events In Regard to the Reports of Wenchuan Earthquake

Abstract:5.12 Wenchuan earthquake occurred twelve days after the issue of The Regulation of the People's Republic of China on the Disclosure of Government Information.The domestic media and press broke through from the old ways of reporting sudden disastrous events.The news was released at the earliest time possible and the coverage became more open.Actively and fully engaged in this event,press and media played well their parts in publicizing information and integrating social concerns.The press reports also demonstrated professionalism and humanistic care.However,certain aspects of press involvement in this earthquake event deserve rethinking,such as how to handle time efficiency against depth of coverage and job obligation versus human care.
