Abstract:To study the seismic behavior of high-strength concrete-filled steel tube composite columns, quasi-static tests on 10 specimens were conducted. The experimental parameters included the axial force ratio and the stirrup characteristic value. The failure modes, hysteretic characteristics, ductility, energy dissipation ability, seciton strain distribution and load-carrying capacity were studied. The experimental results indicate that the failure mode of the specimens is the crushing of bottom concrete and loss of vertical load-bearing capacity. The horizontal force-displacement hysteresis loops are plump-shape with the displacement ductility ratio of specimen exceeding 4.0, and the ultimate drift ratio exceeding 1/40. The energy dissipation capacity in terms of energy dissipative ratios are about the same among the specimens. The bending strength of the specimens calculated by plane section assumption and by superposition method have good agreement with the test result under axial comperssive force, while the strength obtained by 'Technical specification for steel tube-reinforced concrete column structure'(CECS 188:2005) is much less than the test result.
