Ideas and Experience:A Comparative Study on Community Development between China and North America

Abstract:This paper argues that China and North America share the same basic definition of community,but behind the concept,there hides significant different ways of thinking,which leads to differences on the concept of community building in practice.From the comparison of four aspects of domestic concerns on community institutions,community service,community organizations and community cultural,China and North America have their own experience in community building,and it will be difficult to say who is better or worse,which has a close relationship with its' cultural,institutional and stage of development.However,from the view of the universal path of modernization,compared the social characteristics of North American community and the administration characteristics of Chinese community,which can inspire us increase social concern and action in the community building,enhance the ability of organization of residents,and explore the features of the framework pattern.The direction of Chinese characteristics is the integration of the executive heritage and social trend,and its premise is to empower the community and to be protected effectively.
