Supportive Care Needs and Related Factors among Women with Gynecologic Cancer

Abstract:Objective To investigate the prevalence of unmet supportive care needs among gynecologic cancer patients.Methods A descriptive design was adopted in this study.By convenient sampling,100 gynecologic cancer patients during treatment period were investigated with Supportive Care Needs Survey(SCNS).Results The prevalence of unmet needs in health system and information domain,sexuality domain,psychological domain,physical and daily living domain,patient support and care domain were 76.7 percent,70.7 percent,55.2 percent,48.5 percent and 34.1 percent,respectively.The highest mean score of help was health system and information domain(1.40±0.88),followed by sexuality domain(1.38±0.71),physical and daily living domain(1.01±0.64),psychological domain(0.97±0.51) and patient support and care domain(0.80±0.65).Conclusions The patients with gynecologic cancer have unmet supportive needs in various domains.The level of needs for assistance in health system and information domain and sexuality domain are relatively high.They expect to obtain information about illness condition and treatment from doctors,acquire nursing care,health education and psychological support from nurses,as well as psychological support and help from other patients.
