Method for Automatically Determining UHV AC Substation Location, DC Access Point and New Lines Based on PSO

Abstract:In order to obtain a planning scheme considering both security and economy, we presented a method for automatically determining UHV AC substation location, DC access point, and new lines. Basic idea of this method is to solve the economic global optimal UHV AC substation location and DC access point by particle swarm optimization(PSO). The security constraints, such as bus voltage, transformer capacity, line capacity, short-circuit capacity, and the effective short-circuit ratio constraints, are considered in the process of optimization. The presented algorithm can automatically determine the global optimal substation location, access point, and new lines connected to them, which satisfy the given constraints, according to the candidate locations and lines. Using 2015 Hunan province planning data as an example, we obtained several feasible solutions for planning staff to select via the proposed method. The optimization result achieves less construction cost and power loss than manual planned scheme, and ensures security at the same time. Results show that UHV AC substation and DC access point locating in east Hunan province is economic and safe, so as to prove that the proposed method is reliable and effective.
