The life quality of the patients with pelvic organ prolapse post-colpocleisis

Abstract:Objective:To evaluate the life quality of the patient with severe pelvic organ prolapse after colpocleisis.Methods:To collect the information of the patients who suffered severe pelvic organ prolaspe were admitted in Peking University People's Hospital from March,2003 to May 2009.Twenty seven cases underwent colpocleisis.The patients were completed the questionnaire of life quality before and after the surgery.The regular follow-up and pelvic examination was required after surgery.The subjective and objective satisfy rate were also evaluated during following-up.Results:Twenty seven cases had complete information.They all were severe pelvic floor defects.The follow-up average time was 35.5 months(7 to 79 months).The subjective satisfy rate was 96.3%,while the objective satisfy rate was 100%.There were significant difference between preoperative and postoperative quality of life self-rating by the chi-square test(χ2 = 60,P<0.01).However,patients after complete loss of sexual function,and 1 patient were followed up 79 months,she still feel the lower abdomen and perineum heaviness.Conclusion:Pelvic organ prolapse significantly affects the life quality of patients with pelvic organ prolapse.For the elder patients,especially who complicated other disease and cann't tolerant of major surgery,the colpocleisis will be an optimal operation.The quality of the patients' life is significant improved after colpocleisis.However,it should be paid attention that the patients will lose the sexual activity completely,and some of them feel the lower abdomen and perineum heaviness.
