Abstract:H-matrix is a widely used matrix.Two new different preconditioned AOR iterative methods for solving H-matrices linear systems were presented.The convergence theory of the two preconditioned AOR iterative methods were obtained.A numerical example was given to illustrate the theorems.

Abstract:In this paper,we discuss the convergence of a new preconditioned AOR iterative method for Z-matrices linear systems.We consider two different AOR-type splittings for the coefficient matrix of the preconditioned AOR iterative method.Furthermore,we obtain comparison theorems of the convergence rates between the corresponding AOR iterative method of the two splittings and the basic AOR iterative method respectively.Finally,we get the comparison results of the convergence rates between the corresponding AOR iterative methods of the two splittings.

Abstract:H-matrices play an important role in applied sciences such as numerical analysis and optimization theory. An attractive question is to identify whether a given matrix is an H-matrix. In this paper, we propose a new iterative algorithm for identifying H-matrices. We show that the proposed algorithm has linear convergence and can determine the H-matrix characterization for any given matrix. Its performance is illustrated in a set of numerical tests.

Abstract:Linear systems with M-matrices often occur in a wide variety of areas including scientific computing, operations research, stochastic analysis and economics. In this paper, we use a new preconditioner for solving such a kind of system by the preconditioned conjugate gradient (PCG) method. We show that our preconditioner can obtain a fast convergence rate. Abstract:Linear systems with M-matrices occur in a wide variety of areas including numerical partial differential equations, input-output production and growth models in economics, linear complementarity problems in operations research and Markov chains in stochastic analysis.In this paper, we propose a new preconditioner for solving a system with symmetric positive definite M-matrix by the preconditioned conjugate gradient (PCG) method. We show that our preconditioner increases the convergence rate of the PCG method and reduces the operation cost. Numerical results are given.

Abstract:SummaryBased on the weak regular splitting of tensors, preconditioned technology has shown great advantages in solving tensor equations with nonsingular (strong) ‐tensors. In this article, we introduce H‐splitting and H‐compatible splitting and investigate the relationship between these different splittings and their convergence. Meanwhile, we also consider a preconditioned AOR iterative method for solving tensor equations with nonsingular ‐tensors. We prove its convergence and give a comparison result on the spectral radius of the iteration tensor for the case when is a nonsingular ‐tensor. Numerical examples are also given to illustrate our methods.

Abstract:In this paper, first, by using the diagonally compensated reduction and incomplete Cholesky factorization methods, we construct a constraint preconditioner for solving symmetric positive definite linear systems and then we apply the preconditioner to solve the Helmholtz equations and Poisson equations. Second, according to theoretical analysis, we prove that the preconditioned iteration method is convergent. Third, in numerical experiments, we plot the distribution of the spectrum of the preconditioned matrix M−1A and give the solution time and number of iterations comparing to the results of [5, 19].

Abstract:A modified SSOR-like (MSSOR-like) preconditioner is constructed for a non-Hermitian positive definite linear system with a dominant Hermitian part. The eigenvalue distribution of the MSSOR-like preconditioned matrix and the convergence property of the corresponding MSSOR-like iteration method are discussed in depth. Numerical experiments show that the MSSOR-like preconditioner can lead to a high-speed and effectively preconditioned GMRES, even when the dominant Hermitian part of the coefficient matrix is not so strong.

Abstract:This study presents some new iterative algorithms based on the gradient method to solve general constrained systems of conjugate transpose matrix equations for both real and complex matrices. In addition, we analyze the convergence properties of these methods and provide numerical techniques to determine the solutions. The effectiveness of the proposed iterative methods is demonstrated through various numerical examples employed in this study.

Abstract:We put forward and analyze in details an iterative method to find the mixed solutions of a matrix equation with sub-matrix constraints. The convergence of the approximated solution sequence generated by the iterative method is investigated, showing that if the constrained matrix equation is consistent, the mixed solution group can be obtained after a finite number of iterations. Moreover, for a given matrix, its best approximation is obtained, which is the mixed solution of the matrix equation with sub-matrix constraints. Finally, a large number of numerical experiments are carried out, and results show that the algorithm is effective not only in image restoration, but also in the general case for both small-scale and large-scale matrices.

Abstract:Stationary splitting iterative methods for solving <math>AXB=C</math> are considered in this paper. The main tool to derive our new method is the induced splitting of a given nonsingular matrix <math>A=M−N</math> by a matrix <math>H</math> such that <math>(I−H)−1</math> exists. Convergence properties of the proposed method are discussed and numerical experiments are presented to illustrate its computational efficiency and the effectiveness of some preconditioned variants. In particular, for certain surface fitting applications our method is much more efficient than the progressive iterative approximation (PIA), a conventional iterative method often used in computer aided geometric design (CAGD).

Abstract:Hierarchical ( H -) matrices method is a general mathematical framework providing a highly compact representation and efficient numerical arithmetic. When applied in integral-equation- (IE-) based computational electromagnetics, H -matrices can be regarded as a fast algorithm; therefore, both the CPU time and memory requirement are reduced significantly. Its kernel independent feature also makes it suitable for any kind of integral equation. To solve H -matrices system, Krylov iteration methods can be employed with appropriate preconditioners, and direct solvers based on the hierarchical structure of H -matrices are also available along with high efficiency and accuracy, which is a unique advantage compared to other fast algorithms. In this paper, a novel sparse approximate inverse (SAI) preconditioner in multilevel fashion is proposed to accelerate the convergence rate of Krylov iterations for solving H -matrices system in electromagnetic applications, and a group of parallel fast direct solvers are developed for dealing with multiple right-hand-side cases. Finally, numerical experiments are given to demonstrate the advantages of the proposed multilevel preconditioner compared to conventional “single level” preconditioners and the practicability of the fast direct solvers for arbitrary complex structures.

Subdirect Sums of H-matrices

Abstract:This paper concerns the problem of the k-subdirect sum of two H-matrices. Some sufficient conditions are given such that the k-subdirect sum of two H-matrices is an H-matrix. Our main results generalize the one provided by Bru, Pedroche and Szyld [Subdirect sums of M -matrices and of their inverse, Electron. J. Linear Algebra, 13,162-174(2005)]. Furthermore, the subdirect sum of block strictly diagonally dominant (BSDD) matrices is also researched. Examples are given to illustrate the theoretical results presented.

Abstract:In this paper, we investigate the iterative methods for the solution of different types of nonlinear matrix equations. More specifically, we consider iterative methods for the minimal nonnegative solution of a set of Riccati equations, a nonnegative solution of a quadratic matrix equation, and the maximal positive definite solution of the equation X+A∗X−1A=Q. We study the recent iterative methods for computing the solution to the above specific type of equations and propose more effective modifications of these iterative methods. In addition, we make comments and comparisons of the existing methods and show the effectiveness of our methods by illustration examples.

Abstract:In this paper, we consider the iterative solution of a class of complex symmetric linear systems and construct a preconditioned variant of the modified block product (PMBP) iteration method. The proposed method is established by applying the preconditioning technique to the MBP method presented recently. The convergence conditions, optimal iteration parameters, and corresponding optimal convergence factor of the PMBP iteration method are determined. Meanwhile, a practical way to choose the iteration parameters for the PMBP iteration method is proposed. Furthermore, comparisons between the PMBP iteration method and some existing ones verify that the PMBP iteration method owns faster convergence rate than some known ones. Finally, some numerical experiments are provided to demonstrate the effectiveness and the superiority of the proposed PMBP method.

Abstract:For large sparse saddle point problems, Chen and Jiang recently studied a class of generalized inexact parameterized iterative methods (see [F. Chen, Y.-L. Jiang, A generalization of the inexact parameterized Uzawa methods for saddle point problems, Appl. Math. Comput. 206 (2008) 765–771]). In this paper, the methods are modified and some choices of preconditioning matrices are given. These preconditioning matrices have advantages in solving large sparse linear system. Numerical experiments of a model Stokes problem are presented.

Abstract:Two innovations are presented to improve the orthogonal subspace iteration. Firstly, a refined strategy is proposed that replaces conventional Ritz vectors by refined Ritz vectors in subspace iteration. Each refined Ritz vector is chosen such that the norm of the residual formed with the Ritz value is minimized over the subspace involved, and it can be cheaply computed by solving a small problem. Secondly, a standard updating matrix, Ritz vector or Schur vector matrix, is replaced by a new one that is generated only by the refined Ritz vectors used to approximate the wanted eigenvectors. A combination of them yields a refined subspace iteration algorithm. A qualitative analysis is given for the refined algorithm, showing that it may be considerably more efficient than a conventional subspace iteration algorithm. When the subspace dimension is bigger than the number of the wanted eigenpairs, numerical examples show that the refined algorithm has a sharp superiority. Numerical comparisons are also drawn for the refined algorithm with the popular package ARPACK and an implicitly restarted version of the refined Arnoldi method. The algorithm is suited for computing a few dominant eigenpairs of large sparse matrices since the only action of a matrix A in question into the program is a subroutine to form the product A Q, where Q is a matrix having much less columns than rows. Abstract:For effectively solving the nonsymmetric and indefinite linear system originating from the discretized Helmholtz equation with complex wavenumber, we propose a two-parameter modified matrix splitting iteration method. We establish the asymptotic convergence theory for this method and demonstrate its convergence under certain conditions. The proposed iteration method leads to a new preconditioner that can be efficiently inverted by using the discrete sine transform. Numerical experiments are carried out to show that the new preconditioner significantly improves the convergence rate of the GMRES method, which results in effective preconditioned GMRES method for solving the Helmholtz equation of high wavenumber.
