Research-training Needs of Clinical Nurses: A Nationwide Study among Tertiary Hospitals in China.

Abstract:Objective: This study aimed to evaluate Chinese tertiary hospital nurses' research output, research ability, and their related training needs regarding scientific research methodology and analyze the relations among them. Methods: A nationwide survey was conducted in China on a large sample of tertiary hospital nurses (n = 27,335) recruited from 22 provinces, autonomous regions, and municipalities. A validated, self-designed questionnaire, consisted of a common questionnaire, the Science Research Skills Self-Rating Questionnaire (SRSQ) and the Scientific Research Training Needs Questionnaire (SRTNQ) were used to assess nurses' research output, self-rated research skills and research-training needs. Results: The nurses' scientific research participation rates (with 4.13%, 7.85%, 5.35%, and 2.04% in research projects, research attendance, papers published, and patent, respectively) and their self-rated research skills 25.00 (12.50, 37.50) were very low. However, the research training needs were relatively high 53.12(37.50, 75.00). Significant differences in research participation rates (research projects, research attendance, papers published, and patent), scientific research skills, and research-training needs were determined by age, highest education level, nursing experience, employment, technical title, administrative post, and clinical tutoring experience (P < 0.05). Female and male nurses had different research participation rates (only research projects and studies published) and scientific research skills (P < 0.05). Positive correlations were observed among research output, scientific research skills, and research-training needs (P < 0.01). Conclusions: Nurses' scientific research participation and self-rated research ability were below the optimal despite that they had relatively high research-training needs. Abstract:Objective To investigate the training status of emergency specialist nurses and provide reference for improving the training of emergency specialist nurses in China. Methods We selected trainees who participate in emergency specialist nurses training by Chinese Nursing Association from 2014 to 2021 and retrospectively analyzed their general information,training status and satisfaction evaluation after training. Results 1 829 trainees from 716hospitals in 31 provinces,autonomous regions and municipalities in China were investigated. The proportion of male trainees was from 8.78% to 23.33%,with the largest proportion in 2018. The proportion of trainees with intermediate professional titles in 2020 and 2021 was higher than 40%. The annual average proportion of nurses aged from26 to 35 was 80.92%. The number of trainees with undergraduate degree has reached more than 85% and the master degree has stabilized at more than 2% in the past 2 years. Trainees in East and North China accounted for more than 50% of the total trainees every year. The differences were statistically significant（P＜0.05）. The satisfaction of online teaching mode in 2020 and 2021 was lower than that of the offline teaching mode（P＜0.05）. And there was no statistical difference in the satisfaction of clinical practice（P＞0.05）. Conclusion The training of emergency specialist nurses meets the development needs of the specialty,but the educational background and the number of specialized nurses in northwest,northeast,southwest should be improved. It is recommended to continuously optimize the online and offline hybrid theoretical teaching mode,and promote the formation of a national theoretical and practical training system.
Investigation of nurses' scientific research competency and training demand in Chinese tertiary hospitals

Abstract:Objective To investigate nurses' scientific research competency and training demand in Chinese tertiary hospital.Methods It was a multi-stage large-scale survey.A total of 27 335 nurses from 22 provinces/autonomous regions/municipalities were recruited to complete the self-designed questionnaire,including demographic data(7 items),scientific research competency(objective index of 4 items,and subjective index of 6 subscales with 40 items),and training demand evaluation(6 subscales with 16 items).Results There were 1 130(4.14％) nurses who had managed or were managing the research projects as principal investigators(PIs),2 147(7.85％)nurses who had attended or were attending research programs,1 463(5.35％) nurses had published papers,and 557(2.04％) nurses obtained patents.The self-evaluated competency score was 25.00 (12.50,37.50)(rangedfrom 0 to 100)and training demand score was 53.13(37.50,75.00)(ranged from 0 to 100).Conclusion The nurses' scientific research competency should be improved and they had strong training demands.In order to improve nurses' research competency and quality,nursing administrators should pay more attention to post-graduate training focusing on research competency.

Abstract:Evidence-based nursing is an essential method to make nursing activities more scientific and professional. However, the cultivating of evidence-based nursing ability in undergraduate nursing students is relatively backward. Thus, teaching objectives, teaching contents, teaching organization, teaching evaluation and effectiveness of evidence-based nursing were discussed in this article. Based on these results, challenges of evidence-based nursing in undergraduate student in China were analyzed and suggestions were also proposed, hoping to provide some references for the development of evidence-based nursing in undergraduate students in China.

Abstract:Training model and curricular system reform of three year higher nursing education is one of the programs of Programming of Professionals Training Model and Teaching Contents Reform for Occupational Education in the New Century by the Ministry of Education. The program stresses on the combination of reform and development as well as research and practice. By introducing foreign experiences of nursing education, educational innovation and feature development have been highlighted. This article has introduced the implementation of the program and achievements the program has made. It consists of eight parts: 1) comparative study between Chinese and foreign nursing education; 2) development of training objectives and knowledge structure; 3) nursing teacher development; 4) teaching method and technique; 5) nursing practical teaching; 6) curricular system and teaching contents; 7) development of quality education system; 8) evaluation of nursing education.

Abstract:Objective Based on the acquirable and optimized evidences at present,to explore the challenge and countermeasures for the development of nursing discipline in China,and to provide suggestions for promoting the construction of nursing discipline,platform,and talent team.Methods e study materials were searched in the following electronic databases including PubMed,EMbase,Web of Science,CNKI,VIP and CBM,as well as in the o cial websites of World Health Organization(WHO),International Council of Nurses(ICN),World Bank,the Ministry of Health(MOH) and the Ministry of Education(MOE) of China,and the domestic universities,colleges or technical secondary schools.en the statistical analysis was conducted using SPSS 13.0 and Microso Excel so ware.Results a) By 2012,there were 855 nursing schools,38 212 nursing undergraduates enrolled in universities,and 130 837 nursing students enrolled in junior colleges and senior vocational schools;b) e doctor-to-nurse ratio was 1 to 0.9 in 2010.e actual demand for doctors was 2.6 million,and there were still lack of 346 000 nurses;c) e age of nurses younger than 35 years old accounted for 50%.ose with primary professional title accounted for 64% to 69%,while less than 2.5% with advanced professional title;d) e training cost for a doctor and nurse/midwife in China only accounted for 2/5 of that in India and 1/5 to 1/4 in the sub-Sahara Africa;and e) To date,only 30.1% of disaster nursing studies in China provided research data,30.6% were clinical experience and 38.3% were review.Conclusion Education and health systems need to be extensively reformed.It is necessary to train nursing students with core competencies using transformative learning.It is necessary to update textbooks and teaching methods,and funding should be appropriately increased.Nursing should cooperate with other disciplines,and apply evidence-based nursing methods to improve the quality of healthcare services and patient satisfaction.

Abstract:Objective:To probe into the cognition status quo of nursing staff toward evidence-based nursing and its related factors influencing nursing staff with bachelor degree or above in Shanghai area to carry out evidence-based nursing.Methods:A total of 722 clinical nurses with bachelor degree or above from 13 tertiary hospitals and 2 two-grade hospitals in Shanghai were asked to fill out questionnaire,which is focusing on nurses’ knowledge,cognitive status and its related factors on evidence-based nursing.Results:Among all nurses,93.2% of them heard of "evidence-based nursing",68.1% nurses comprehended "evidence-based nursing".And 56.2% nurses considered that it was necessary for them to take evidence-based nursing training continuously and systematically;There were many factors influencing nursing staff to carry out evidence-based nursing practice,which including inadequate subjective ability and lack of understanding on evidence-based nursing of nurses,limitation on quality of current studies and objective condition.Conclusion:It is very urgent to unfold training courses on evidence-based nursing education and to design a suitable education training plan for clinical nursing staff with bachelor degree or above.To carry out evidence-based nursing education training for clinical nursing staff with bachelor degree or above has important significance.
Improving the curriculum for a community nursing training program in Guangzhou City, China

Abstract:In China, community nurses do not have systematic training, and the nursing education curriculum focuses on clinical nursing both in vocational school and high school. Most nurses work at a hospital, and almost all community nurses lack systematic knowledge about community nursing. A training program for community nurses in Guangzhou City has been conducted since 2003. The training curriculum has evolved over the years, but is not standardized. This article describes research on improving community nurses' basic knowledge and practice skills. We modified the curriculum with a questionnaire and a modified Delphi method. First, 318 participating nurses and instructors were queried in December 2012. Then 22 experts modified the training program based on the results of the questionnaire and implementation since 2013. After 4 years, we followed up with the new participating nurses to evaluate the curriculum.

Abstract:Objective To discuss suitable training objective and curriculum for college nursing students majored in midwifery in China,which can meet the requirements of International Confederation of Midwifery (ICM).Methods Expert questionnaire was formulated through literature review and focus group discussion,and Delphi method was used to consult 12 experts.Results Cr of this research was all above 0.7,indicating high credits.100％ of 12 expert questionnaires were recovered.There were all 58 indexes in this examination,with cooperation index W as 0.452 (x2 =254.699,P ＜ 0.01).The results of training objective was favorable,and expert opinions were uniform,with the importance assignment ＞ 3.5 and variation coefficient ＜ 0.25.The results of curriculum were also good,and experts suggested including courses about neonatal nursing,midwifery skills training and career guidance.Conclusions Study on training objective and curriculum can provide a theoretical basis for standardized training of midwifery professionals.

Abstract:The purpose of this article is to explore the training patterns of general/family physicians in China by comparing with the programs in other countries.Education of general/family medicine overseas is commonly involved in three parts: undergraduate education,residency training and continuing education.Education of general/family medicine has four ways in China .That is knowledge education of general/family medicine for undergraduates in medical college,postgraduate,retraining programs and continuous medical education.This article is to discuss some issues related to such training,that is the enrollment criteria,compensation mechanism,multiple levels and channels of the training,and the accreditation of general/family physicians.

Abstract:Oblective:To investigate the status quo of continuing nursing education in the countryside hospitals and to analyse its influence factors and study the effective implementation strategies of continuing nursing education in the hospitals.Methods:A questionnaire survey,field research and statistical analysis.Results:80.5% nurses in these hospitals did not attend academic activities out of the hospitals and 99.1% did not participate in advanced learning in superior hospitals.13.1% of the hospitals never developed vocational learning.Insufficient training funds and shortage of nurse were the main reasons.Conclusion:To improve the integrate quality of the nursing personnel and the quality of nursing care in the hospitals needs to design feasible continuing nursing educational programs,increase financial support,and develop multi-channel approaches for advanced learning.

Abstract:Abstract Background China has the largest population in the world. While breastfeeding statistics have improved in the most recent decade, the exclusive breastfeeding rates remain low. Nurses with baccalaureate degrees are becoming the mainstay of China's nursing workforce and are an important force in supporting breastfeeding. To date, there is little evidence regarding breastfeeding education for undergraduate nursing students in mainland China. This study aims to explore the breastfeeding knowledge level and attitudes of undergraduate nursing students in mainland China, as well as their perceptions on breastfeeding education. Methods This was a descriptive cross-sectional study. An online questionnaire survey was conducted from October to December 2023 among 428 undergraduate nursing students from 22 medical universities/colleges in different regions of mainland China. Results Most student participants (96.96%) expressed supportive attitudes toward breastfeeding. The average correct response rate of the breastfeeding knowledge questionnaire was 54.80%. Students who reported having received breastfeeding education/training at school, or having obstetric or pediatric internship experience had significantly higher mean knowledge scores compared to others (p < 0.05). Overall, 92.99% (398/428) of students surveyed stated they would like more education on breastfeeding within the undergraduate nursing school curriculum. Case-based learning (CBL) and simulation were the most desired teaching methods for theoretical classes and practical classes, respectively. Conclusions The breastfeeding knowledge of undergraduate nursing students needs to be improved. Breastfeeding education included in the nursing curriculum should be strengthened, to adequately prepare students to support breastfeeding.

Abstract:Aims To assess challenges and response strategy for the development of nursing disciplines and proposes suggestions to promote the construction of nursing discipline, platform and talent team based on the currently available best evidence. Methods Database of CNKI, VIP and CBM, and official websites of World Health Organization, International Council of Nurses, World Bank, Ministry of Health and Ministry of Education were searched. Data analyses were performed using SPSS 13.0. Results 886 nursing schools were found in China, and 38,212 nursing students enrolled in universities or independent colleges, 130,837 students recruited by colleges or senior vocational schools. Doctor to nurse ratio was 1 to 0.9 in 2011, and the actual demands of doctors were 2.6 million, while nursing shortage was approximately 346,000. Nurses aged ≤ 35 years accounted for 50% of total. 64%∼69% of nurses with primary professional titles while less than 2.5% of those with advanced titles. Training cost for a doctor or nurse in China was only 2/5 the cost in India or 1/5 to1/4 of sub-Saharan. To date, only 30.1% of disaster nursing literatures provided research data, while 30.6% described experience and 38.3% were only summaries. Conclusions It is concluded that education and health systems must be reformed deeply. Nursing students should be cultivated with core competency and transformative learning. Teaching schoolbooks and methods should be updated, and fund investment should be increased reasonably. Nursing discipline should cooperate with interdisciplinary and provide evidence-based nursing to improve the quality of healthcare services and patient satisfaction. The investigation of the training for community nurses—the status and the requirements

Abstract:Objective,This study aimed to explore the status and the requirements of the training for the community nurses,thereby to provide the guideline for further community nursing training. Methods,In Dec.2006,844 recruited nurses in Heilongjiang province completed the a self-designed questionnaire regarding the status and the requirements of the training for the community nurses. Results,Only 28.1% of the community nurses received the relating training. Around two fifths of such training(40. 2%) took less than 1 week and lecture was the way used frequently(74.7%) . The trainers included the teachers in the school of Public Health,the health care staff in the Epidemic Disease Prevention Station and the doctors(64.3%) . Most of the community nurses(93. 2%) reported that the position training was important and they were willing to attend it. The methods of the training which they liked mostly were internship and simulative internship. 62.1% of nurses were willing to attend the position training and 61.1% would like to have such a training of 1 week to 3 months. Teachers in the School of Nursing(50%) were mostly expected to be the trainers and experienced community nurses were followed. The training contents were mostly expected to be the nursing skills and work-ing methods used frequently in the community. Conclusion:An exploration of the status and requirements of the training for the community nurses could facilitate to develop the position training systematically and purposely as so to gain the according outcomes.
Investigation on Present On-the-job training among Community Nurses in Suburbs of Beijing

Abstract:Objective To investigation the present training situation among community nurses in the suburbs of Beijing,find the existing problems and causes,and provide the basis for the construction of talents team of community nurses.Methods By using by the method of stratified random sampling,a questionnaire survey was conducted 302 nurses from 38 community health service institutions of 3 suburbs in Beijing.The administrators of the institutions were also interviewed.Results Most of the community nurses in the community health service institutions of suburbs were with a low academic qualifications and seniority.119(39.40%) nurses had the chances of on-the-job training,63(20.86%) had the chances of short-term training;21(6.95%) had the chances of further studies.The expected training mode of them included on-the-job training(87.09%),direction in their own hospital by external experts(52.65%),further study in secondary or higher grade hospitals(49.34%),further study in developed community health service institutions(46.69%) and short-term training(34.77%).Conclusion The overall quality and training of community nurses from community health service institutions need to be improved.The training mode and safeguard measures should be developed.
