Abstract:In 1992, Gundersen (Complex Var. Elliptic Equ.20 (1992), no. 1-4, 99-106.) proposed the following famous open question: if two non-constant meromorphic functions share three values IM and share a fourth value CM, then do the functions necessarily share all four values CM? The open question is a long-standing question in the studies of the Nevanlinna$'$s value distribution theory of meromorphic functions, and has not been completely resolved by now. In this paper, we prove that if two distinct non-constant meromorphic functions $f$ and $g$ of finite order share $0,$ $1,$ $c$ IM and $\infty$ CM, where $c$ is a finite complex value such that $c\not\in\{0,1\},$ then $f$ and $g$ share $0,$ $1,$ $c,$ $\infty$ CM. Applying the main result obtained in this paper, we completely resolve a question proposed by Gary G. Gundersen on Page 458 of his paper (J. London Math. Soc. 20(1979), no. 2, 457-466.)concerning the nonexistence of two distinct non-constant meromorphic functions sharing three distinct values DM and a fourth value CM. The obtained result also improves the corresponding result on Pages 109-117 in (E. Mues, Bemerkungen zum vier-punkte-satz, Complex Methods on Partial Diferential Equations, 109-117, Math. Res. 53, Akademie-Verlag, Berlin, 1989.) concerning the nonexistence of two distinct non-constant entire functions that share three distinct finite values DM. Examples are provided to show that the main results obtained in this paper, in a sense, are best possible.

Abstract:We discuss the problem of uniqueness of a meromorphic function f ( z ) , which shares a 1 ( z ) , a 2 ( z ) , and a 3 ( z ) CM with its shift f ( z + c ) , where a 1 ( z ) , a 2 ( z ) , and a 3 ( z ) are three c -periodic distinct small functions of f ( z ) and c ∈ \{0} The obtained result improves the recent result of Heittokangas, et al. [ Complex Var. Elliptic Equat. , 56 , No. 1-4, 81 (2011)] by omitting the assumption about the order of f ( z ) In addition, we introduce a way of characterization of elliptic functions in terms of meromorphic functions sharing values with two of their shifts. Moreover, by a number of illustrative examples, we show that our results are, in certain senses, best possible.

Abstract:In this paper, we study the uniqueness of the difference of meromorphic functions. We prove the following result: Let $f$ be a non-constant meromorphic function of hyper-order less than $1$, let $\eta$ be a non-zero complex number, $n\geq1$, an integer, and let $a,b,c\in\hat{S}(f)$ be three distinct small functions and two of them be periodic small functions with period $\eta$. If $f$ and $\Delta_{\eta}^{n}f$ share $a,b,c$ CM, then $f\equiv\Delta_{\eta}^{n}f$.

Abstract:The 4IM+1CM problem is determining all pairs (f,g) of meromorphic functions in the complex plane that are not Moebius transformations of each other and share five pairs of complex values, one of them counting multiplicities. It is shown that every solution to this problem parametrizes an algebraic curve of genus zero and low degree depending on five parameters only, which enables handing over the problem to computer algebra specialists.

Abstract:An example in the article shows that the first derivative of $f(z)=\frac{2}{1-e^{-2z}}$ sharing $0$ CM and $1,\infty$ IM with its shift $\pi i$ cannot obtain they are equal. In this paper, we study the uniqueness of meromorphic function sharing small functions with their shifts concerning its $k-th$ derivatives. We use a different method from Qi and Yang \cite {qy} to improves entire function to meromorphic function, the first derivative to the $k-th$ derivatives, and also finite values to small functions. As for $k=0$, we obtain: Let $f(z)$ be a transcendental meromorphic function of $\rho_{2}(f)<1$, let $c$ be a nonzero finite value, and let $a(z)\not\equiv\infty, b(z)\not\equiv\infty\in \hat{S}(f)$ be two distinct small functions of $f(z)$ such that $a(z)$ is a periodic function with period $c$ and $b(z)$ is any small function of $f(z)$. If $f(z)$ and $f(z+c)$ share $a(z),\infty$ CM, and share $b(z)$ IM, then either $f(z)\equiv f(z+c)$ or $$e^{p(z)}\equiv \frac{f(z+c)-a(z+c)}{f(z)-a(z)}\equiv \frac{b(z+c)-a(z+c)}{b(z)-a(z)},$$ where $p(z)$ is a non-constant entire function of $\rho(p)<1$ such that $e^{p(z+c)}\equiv e^{p(z)}$.

Abstract:Abstract In this paper, we prove that for a transcendental meromorphic function f(z) on the complex plane, the inequality T(r, f) < 6N (r, 1/(f2 f(k)−1)) + S(r, f) holds, where k is a positive integer. Moreover, we prove the following normality criterion: Let ℱ be a family of meromorphic functions on a domain D and let k be a positive integer. If for each ℱ ∈ ℱ, all zeros of ℱ are of multiplicity at least k, and f2 f(k) ≠ 1 for z ∈ D, then ℱ is normal in the domain D. At the same time we also show that the condition on multiple zeros of f in the normality criterion is necessary.

Abstract:The main purpose of this paper is to investigate the growth order of the meromorphic solutions of complex functional difference equation of the form (∑λ∈I‍αλ(z)(∏ν=1n‍f(z+cν)lλ,ν))/(∑μ∈J‍βμ(z)(∏ν=1n‍f(z+cν)mμ,ν))=Q(z,f(p(z))), where I={λ=(lλ,1,lλ,2,…,lλ,n)∣lλ,ν∈ℕ⋃‍{0}, ν=1,2,…,n} and J={μ=(mμ,1,mμ,2,…,mμ,n)∣mμ,ν∈ℕ⋃‍{0}, ν=1,2,…,n} are two finite index sets, cν (ν=1,2,…,n) are distinct complex numbers, αλ(z) (λ∈I) and βμ(z) (μ∈J) are small functions relative to f(z), and Q(z,u) is a rational function in u with coefficients which are small functions of f(z), p(z)=pkzk+pk-1zk-1+⋯+p0∈ℂ[z] of degree k≥1. We also give some examples to show that our results are sharp.

Abstract:Zhao (2003a) first established a congruence for any odd prime p>3, S(1,1,1;p)≡−2Bp−3 (mod p), which holds when p=3 evidently. In this paper, we consider finite triple harmonic sum S(α,β,γ,p) (mod p) is considered for all positive integers α,β,γ. We refer to w=α+β+γ as the weight of the sum, and show that if w is even, S(α,β,γ,p)≡0 (mod p) for p≥w+3; if w is odd S(α,γ,γ,p)≡rBp−w (mod p) for p≥w, here r is an explicit rational number independent of p. A congruence of Catalan number is obtained as a special case.

Abstract:A value on the extended complex plane is a radially distributed value of a transcendental meromorphic function if most of points at which the value is assumed distribute closely along a finite number of rays from the origin. In this chapter, we study the growth order of a meromorphic function with two radially distributed values and a distinct deficient value (in other words, this hints a condition under which deficient values do not exist). We respectively treat two cases: one is without assumption about the growth of the function considered and the other is under assumption of the function being of the finite lower order. The Nevanlinna characteristic for an angle plays crucial role in the investigation of this subject. Actually, the idea to study this subject is the following: the Nevanlinna characteristic T (r, f) for {vertical bar z vertical bar < r} is controlled by the corresponding proximate function m(r,*) to a deficient value; there exists a solid relation between m(r,*) and the sum of B(r,*) on the finitely many angular domains; and according to some fundamental theorems, we estimate B(r,*) in terms of two C(r,**), which describes the number of poles of the function ** in the angle. Thus T (r, f) is controlled in terms of the number of value-points in the angles. This way also produces discussion of the growth order dealing with other type of radially distributed values. Finally, we simply survey the background and other main results of the subject.

Abstract:In this paper, by making use of properties of elliptic functions, we describe meromorphic solutions of Fermat-type functional equations $f(z)^{n}+f(L(z))^{m}=1$ over the complex plane $\mathbb{C}$, where $L(z)$ is a nonconstant entire function, $m$ and $n$ are two positive integers. As applications, we also consider meromorphic solutions of Fermat-type difference and $q$-difference equations.

Abstract:Let f be a transcendental meromorphic function on the complex plane ℂ, let a be a non-zero finite complex number and let n and k be two positive integers. In this paper, we prove that if n≥k+1, then $\smash{f+a(f^{(k)})^n}$ assumes each value b∈ℂ infinitely often. Also, the related normal criterion for families of meromorphic functions is given. Our results generalize the related results of Fang and Zalcman.

Abstract:In this paper, we will deal with the existence and the form of transcendental meromorphic solutions of nonlinear differential equation f(n) + Q(d)(z, f) = p(1)(z)e(alpha 1(z)) + p(2)(z)e(alpha 2(z)), where n >= 4 is an integer, Q(d)(z, f) is a special differential polynomial in f of degree d = n - 1 with rational functions as its coefficients, p(1), p(2) are non-vanishing rational functions and alpha(1), alpha(2) are nonconstant polynomials. In particular, we can show that Conjecture 1 (in [6]) is true when Q(d)(z, f) has a special form.
