Abstract:We determine all pairs $(f,g)$ of meromorphic functions that share four pairs of values $(a_\nu,b_\nu)$, $1\le\nu\le 4$, and a fifth pair $(a_5,b_5)$ under some mild additional condition.

Abstract:The 4IM+1CM problem is determining all pairs (f,g) of meromorphic functions in the complex plane that are not Moebius transformations of each other and share five pairs of complex values, one of them counting multiplicities. It is shown that every solution to this problem parametrizes an algebraic curve of genus zero and low degree depending on five parameters only, which enables handing over the problem to computer algebra specialists.

Abstract:In this paper, we study the uniqueness of the difference of meromorphic functions. We prove the following result: Let $f$ be a non-constant meromorphic function of hyper-order less than $1$, let $\eta$ be a non-zero complex number, $n\geq1$, an integer, and let $a,b,c\in\hat{S}(f)$ be three distinct small functions and two of them be periodic small functions with period $\eta$. If $f$ and $\Delta_{\eta}^{n}f$ share $a,b,c$ CM, then $f\equiv\Delta_{\eta}^{n}f$.

Abstract:In 1992, Gundersen (Complex Var. Elliptic Equ.20 (1992), no. 1-4, 99-106.) proposed the following famous open question: if two non-constant meromorphic functions share three values IM and share a fourth value CM, then do the functions necessarily share all four values CM? The open question is a long-standing question in the studies of the Nevanlinna$'$s value distribution theory of meromorphic functions, and has not been completely resolved by now. In this paper, we prove that if two distinct non-constant meromorphic functions $f$ and $g$ of finite order share $0,$ $1,$ $c$ IM and $\infty$ CM, where $c$ is a finite complex value such that $c\not\in\{0,1\},$ then $f$ and $g$ share $0,$ $1,$ $c,$ $\infty$ CM. Applying the main result obtained in this paper, we completely resolve a question proposed by Gary G. Gundersen on Page 458 of his paper (J. London Math. Soc. 20(1979), no. 2, 457-466.)concerning the nonexistence of two distinct non-constant meromorphic functions sharing three distinct values DM and a fourth value CM. The obtained result also improves the corresponding result on Pages 109-117 in (E. Mues, Bemerkungen zum vier-punkte-satz, Complex Methods on Partial Diferential Equations, 109-117, Math. Res. 53, Akademie-Verlag, Berlin, 1989.) concerning the nonexistence of two distinct non-constant entire functions that share three distinct finite values DM. Examples are provided to show that the main results obtained in this paper, in a sense, are best possible.

Abstract:The paper presents general criteria for the uniqueness of a non-constant meromorphic function having finitely many poles and a non-constant L -function in the Selberg class when they share two sets. Our results provide the best cardinalities ever obtained in the literature improving all the existing results Li et al. (Lith. Math. J. 58 (2), 249–262 (2018)), Kundu and Banerjee (Rend. Circ. Mat. Palermo (2) 70 (3), 1227–1244 (2021), Banerjee and Kundu (Lith. Math. J. 61 (2), 161–179 (2021) with regard to the most general setting. Further, we have exhibited a number of examples throughout the paper showing the far reaching applications of our results.

Abstract:We discuss the problem of uniqueness of a meromorphic function f ( z ) , which shares a 1 ( z ) , a 2 ( z ) , and a 3 ( z ) CM with its shift f ( z + c ) , where a 1 ( z ) , a 2 ( z ) , and a 3 ( z ) are three c -periodic distinct small functions of f ( z ) and c ∈ \{0} The obtained result improves the recent result of Heittokangas, et al. [ Complex Var. Elliptic Equat. , 56 , No. 1-4, 81 (2011)] by omitting the assumption about the order of f ( z ) In addition, we introduce a way of characterization of elliptic functions in terms of meromorphic functions sharing values with two of their shifts. Moreover, by a number of illustrative examples, we show that our results are, in certain senses, best possible.

Abstract:Let S denote a finite set in extended complex plane C, f a non-constant meromorphic function in the plane, and (E) over bar(f, S) = a is an element of S (boolean OR) {z\ f(z) = a, ignoring multiplicity}. We define E-1(f, S) = {the simple zeroes of f(z)- S-i, S-i is an element of S}. Recently, Reinders(9) proved that one can exhibit some set S-1 with 16 elements such that the condition (E) over bar(f, S-1) = (E) over bar(g, S-1) implies f = g for any pair of non-constant meromorphic functions f and g, and some set S-2 with 10 elements such that the condition (E) over bar(f, S-2) = (E) over bar(g,S-2) implies f = g for any pair of non-constant entire functions f and g. In this paper, we prove that there is some set S with 15 elements such that the condition E-1(f, S) = E-1(g, S) implies f = g for any pair of non-constant meromorphic functions f and g, and some set T with 9 elements such that the condition E-1(f,T) = E-1(g,T) implies f = g for any pair of non-constant entire functions f and g.

Abstract:There have been many extensions of the Nevanlinna's five-values theorem for meromorphic functions to the case of meromorphic maps into Pn(C). We improve these results by considering the degenerate case and using the weaker condition ‘f−1(H)⊆g−1(H)’ instead of the usual one ‘f−1(H)=g−1(H)’ for some hyperplanes H among the given hyperplanes. Our main theorems contain not only many well-known results but also more new conclusions. The sharpness of our results in some aspects is also explained.

Abstract:On a compact Riemann surface $X$ of genus $g$, one of the questions is the existence of meromorphic functions having poles at a point $P$ on $X$. One of the theorems is the Weierstrass gap theorem that determines a sequence of $g$ numbers $1 < n_k < 2g$, $1 \leq k \leq g$ for which a meromorphic function with the order with $n_k$ fails to exist at $P$. In this note, we give proof of the Weierstrass gap theorem in cohomology terminology. We see that an interesting combinatorial problem may be formed as a byproduct from the statement of the Weierstrass gap theorem.

Abstract:In this paper, by making use of properties of elliptic functions, we describe meromorphic solutions of Fermat-type functional equations $f(z)^{n}+f(L(z))^{m}=1$ over the complex plane $\mathbb{C}$, where $L(z)$ is a nonconstant entire function, $m$ and $n$ are two positive integers. As applications, we also consider meromorphic solutions of Fermat-type difference and $q$-difference equations.

Abstract:Let f : (Cn+1, 0) --> (C,0) be a holomorphic germ defining an isolated hypersurface singularity V at the origin. Let mu and nu and p(g) be the Milnor number, multiplicity and geometric genus of (V, 0), respectively. We conjecture that mu >= (nu-1)(n+1) and the equality holds if and only if f is a semi-homogeneous function. We prove that this inequality holds for n = 1, and also for n = 2 or 3 with additional assumption that f is a quasihomogeneous function. For n = 1, if V has at most two irreducible branches at the origin, or if f is a quasi-homogeneous function, then mu = (nu-1)(2) if and only if f is a homogeneous polynomial. For n = 2, if f is a quasihomogeneous function, then mu = (nu-1)(3) iff 6p(g) = nu(nu - 1)(nu - 2) iff f is a homogeneous polynomial after biholomorphic change of variables. For n = 3, if f is a quasi-homogeneous function, then mu = (nu - 1)(4) iff 24p(g) = nu(nu - 1) (nu - 2) (nu - 3) iff f is a homogeneous polynomial after biholomorphic change of variables.

Abstract:Abstract Given a germ of an analytic variety X and a germ of a holomorphic function f with a stratified isolated singularity with respect to the logarithmic stratification of X , we show that under certain conditions on the singularity type of the pair ( f , X ), the following relative analog of the well-known K. Saito’s theorem holds true: equality of the relative Milnor and Tjurina numbers of f with respect to X (also known as Bruce–Roberts numbers) is equivalent to the relative quasihomogeneity of the pair ( f , X ), i.e. to the existence of a coordinate system such that both f and X are quasihomogeneous with respect to the same positive rational weights.

Abstract:Let l be a positive integer, be a constant, and ( ) be a function holomorphic in a domain D , all of whose zeros have multiplicity at most l , and let be a family of meromorphic functions defined in D . If, for every function , (a) all zeros of f are multiple, and ; (b) ; (c) all poles of f have multiplicity at least , then is normal in D . Also, we give an example to show that the number is sharp, and prove that the counterexample is unique in some sense.

Abstract:Let $\Pi$ be a cuspidal automorphic representation of $\mathrm{GL}_5(\mathbb{A}_\mathbb{Q})$, and let $\Sigma = \mathrm{Ind}(\pi, \chi_2|\cdot|^{1/2}, \chi_3|\cdot|^{-1/2})$ be an automorphic representation of $\mathrm{GL}_4(\mathbb{A}_\mathbb{Q})$ induced from the standard parabolic subgroup of the form $(2, 1, 1)$ where $\pi$ is a cuspidal automorphic representation of $\mathrm{GL}_2(\mathbb{A}_\mathbb{Q})$. Assume that $\Pi_{\infty}$ and $\Sigma_{\infty}$ are cohomological with respect to the trivial representation in which case $s=1/2$ is a critical point for the Rankin-Selberg $L$-function $L(s, \Pi \times \Sigma)$. Following Mahnkopf, we prove a result about $L(\tfrac{1}{2}, \Pi \times \Sigma)$, and as a corollary, obtain an algebraicity result for the ratio $L(1, \Pi \times \chi)/L(1, \Pi \times \chi')$, where $\chi,\chi'$ are finite order Hecke characters such that $\chi_{\infty} = \chi'_{\infty} = \mathrm{sgn}$.

Some Lê-Greuel type formulae on stratified spaces

Abstract:We extend the circle of ideas from a previous paper on hypersurfaces to functions $f \colon (\mathbb C^n, 0) \to (\mathbb C^k, 0)$ with an isolated singularity in a stratified sense on an arbitrary, but fixed complex analytic germ $(X, 0)$. An extension of Tib{\u a}r's Bouquet Theorem to this setup allows for a topological definition of Milnor numbers $\mu(\alpha; f)$ for each stratum $V^\alpha$ of $X$ and we prove several formulas which compute these numbers as (alternating) sums of certain ``homological indices''. The main technical result at work in the background is a local Riemann-Roch type theorem, relating a topological obstruction to holomorphic Euler characteristics.

A uniqueness theorem for meromorphic maps into $\mathbb{P}^n$ with generic $(2n+2)$ hyperplanes

Abstract:Let $ H_1,\dots,H_{2n+2}$ be \emph{generic} $(2n+2)$ hyperplanes in $\mathbb{P}^n.$ It is proved that if meromorphic maps $ f $ and $ g $ of $\mathbb{C}^m $ into $\mathbb{P}^n $ satisfy $ f^*(H_j)=g^*(H_j)$ $(1\leq j\leq 2n+2)$ and $ g $ is algebraically non-degenerate then $ f=g.$ This result is essentially implied by the proof of Hirotaka Fujimoto in papers [Nagoya Math. J., 1976(64): 117--147] and [Nagoya Math. J., 1978(71): 13--24]. This note gives a complete proof of the above uniqueness result.

Abstract:In 1985, <a class="link-external link-http" href="http://W.K.Hayman" rel="external noopener nofollow">this http URL</a> (Bayer. Akad. Wiss. Math.-Natur. Kl. Sitzungsber, 1984(1985), 1-13.) proved that there do not exist non-constant meromorphic functions $f,$ $g$ and $h$ satisfying the functional equation $f^n+g^n+h^n=1$ for $n\geq 9.$ We prove that there do not exist non-constant meromorphic solutions $f,$ $g,$ $h$ satisfying the functional equation $f^8+g^8+h^8=1.$ In 1971, N. Toda (Tôhoku Math. J. 23(1971), no. 2, 289-299.) proved that there do not exist non-constant entire functions $f,$ $g,$ $h$ satisfying $f^n+g^n+h^n=1$ for $n\geq 7.$ We prove that there do not exist non-constant entire functions $f,$ $g,$ $h$ satisfying the functional equation $f^6+g^6+h^6=1.$ Our results answer questions of G. G. Gundersen.
