Abstract:Jet refrigeration technology with chlorofluorocarbon as working medium for recycling automotive waste heat is widely used.But there is pyrolysis risk when the temperature of generator is high.Chlorofluorocarbon has a greenhouse effect.Water as a natural refrigerant has heat stability and is better than chlorofluorocarbon.So according to the practical application experience of water jet refrigeration system and feature of vehicle air conditioning system,the paper puts an air cooled two-stage ejector refrigeration system making water as working medium and making a u-tube as throttling device.Through establishing systematic mathematical-physical model and taking numerical simulation analysis,it compares the system’s function at different condition.The result shows that the new system can effectively recycle the waste heat of automobile engine,and is feasible as automotive air conditioning system.

Abstract:A new heat recovery system for the CHP (combined heating and power) is presented, and HRU (heat recovery unit) and AHE (absorption heat exchanger) are invented to improve the total energy efficiency of the conventional CHP system by more than 20%, which are installed at the thermal power plant and the heating substation separately. The HRU could recover the low grade heat of exhausted steam from the turbine directly, and the AHE could decrease the temperature of back water of primary pipe to a lower temperature than that of secondary pipe without changing the flow rate of secondary pipe. A large demonstration project employing this technology has been built in Datong of China. And experimental results of HRU and AHE are presented to evaluate this system.

Abstract:A pump-driven loop heat pipe (PLHP) was proposed for energy recovery from exhaust air to reduce fresh air handling energy consumption of air conditioning systems. The influences of working fluid, mass flow rate, heat exchanging area and facing air velocity on heat transfer capacity, temperature effectiveness and coefficient of performance (COP) were studied experimentally under different working conditions. The optimum working fluid and value were obtained, respectively. Results indicate that the heat transfer capacity and COP increase with the temperature difference between indoor and outdoor air while the temperature effectiveness decreases. The general performance for R32 as working fluid was better than R22 and R152a. For summer condition, the heat transfer capacity was 4.09kW and the COP was 9.26 when the mass flow rate was 250kgh−1, the heat exchanging area was 58.0m2 and the facing air velocity was 1.8ms−1. For winter condition, the heat transfer capacity was 6.63kW and the COP was 14.20 while the mass flow rate was 300kgh−1, the heat exchanging area was 58.0m2 and the facing air velocity was 1.8ms−1. The tested device could meet the energy recovery need with remarkable energy savings.
Operating Characteristics of a Pump-driven Loop Heat Pipe Energy Recovery Device

Abstract:A pump-driven loop heat pipe energy recovery device was proposed to reduce the energy consumption of fresh air handling in public buildings through energy recovery from exhaust air. An experimental setup was built to investigate the energy recovery device operating characteristics for 3 working fluids under 8 working conditions. The influence of working fluid and working condition on heat transfer rate, temperature efficiency and coefficient of performance ( COP) of the device was studied. Results show that the device can meet the energy recovery requirements in public buildings with obvious energy saving. The heat transfer rate and COP increase with the temperature difference between indoor and outdoor air while the temperature efficiency decreases. The COP under the summer and winter conditions can reach up to 11. 07 and 23. 82, respectively. The performance of the device using R32 as working fluid is better than that of R22 and R152a.

Abstract:Typically, a great deal of heat is wasted in the drainage systems of large-scale public shower facilities, such as those in schools, barracks, and natatoriums. This paper enhances a heat pump system used in public shower facilities for exhaust heat recovery. The system consists of three sections for exhaust heat recovery: solar energy collection system, drainage collection system, and heat pump system. In the system, the energy from the solar energy collection system is used for the initial heating the shower's tap water. Afterwards, the drainage collection system collects the used shower water. Finally, the electric heat pump recycles the exhaust heat from the collected water to heat the shower's tap water. The operational practice of the system was presented. The drainage temperature and equipment capacity was optimized based on a practical example. The advantages of this heat pump system compared to gas-fired (oil-fired, coal-fired, electric) boilers are lower energy consumption, less pollution, and lower operating costs. Therefore, the system is superior in energy conservation and has a promising application prospect.

Abstract:To reduce energy consumption and take full use of energy in the technological air conditioning system in a cigarette factory, a system for recovering waste heat from cooling water was designed based on heat pump technology. The system consists of a heat pump unit and water pumps at its hot end and cold end. The cold end of the heat pump is connected to the cooling water circulation pipeline of the refrigeration system, and 20%-25% of cooling water is diverted to the heat pump to recover the low-grade heat energy in it. The hot end of the heat pump is connected to the circulating water pipeline of the reheating system to heat 80%-90% of circulating water and thereby reduce the steam consumption of the reheating system. The designed system was tested on the air conditioning system in aging warehouse in Hangzhou Cigarette Factory. The results showed that the ambient temperature and humidity in the aging warehouse did not change significantly, the daily steam consumption of the reheating system was basically zero, and the average daily COP of the refrigeration system increased from 2.82 to 4.03. Compared with the same period in 2021, the energy efficiency index of the technological air conditioning system raised from 2.28 to 5.05, the average daily steam consumption decreased by 33.65 t/d, and the electricity consumption decreased by 6 087（kW·h）/d, it saved about 2.24 million RMB yuan every year. This technology provides support for the energy utilization promotion and production cost reduction of cigarette factory.

Abstract:Heat recovery liquid desiccant evaporative cooling air-conditioning system was presented.It can run the whole year,and has a significant reduction in the cooling water consumption with the help of evaporative cooling technology and a direct mixing heat exchanger.Indoor air exhaust heat can be recovered and utilized.Compared with similar systems,it has higher operating efficiency.Through the calculation and analysis,the results showed that the evaporative cooler is the main factor of winter heat recovery.To further enhance the overall performance of the system,the evaporator,evaporative condenser and evaporative cooler should be designed and match in the winter condition.In the winter and summer air-conditioning outdoor design condition of Xi'an,the system's performance coefficient of TCOP,COP and COP_hare 0.925,0.6516 and 4.17,respectively.

Abstract:A new heat recovery system for CHP (combined heat and power) systems named HRU (heat recovery unit) is presented, which could recover the low grade heat of exhausted steam from the turbine at the thermal power plant directly. Heat recovery of exhausted steam is often accomplished by recovering the heat of cooling water in current systems. Therefore, two processes of heat transfer is needed at least. However, exhausted steam could be condensed in the evaporator of HRU directly, which reduce one process of heat transfer. A special evaporator is designed condense the exhausted steam directly. Simulated results are compared to experiments, which could include the calculation of heat transfer coefficients of different parts of HRU. It is found that about 25Mw of exhausted steam is recovered by this system. HRU could be promising for conventional CHP systems, which could increase the total energy efficiency obviously and enlarge the heating capacity of a built CHP system.

Abstract:This paper presents a new technology based on a direct-fired absorption heat pump and a direct-contact total heat exchanger. An analysis of existing techniques for heat recovery shows that the limiting factors of condensing heat recovery are return-water temperature and the ability of air to recover heat. In addition, severe corrosion usually exists in indirect-contact heat exchangers where the flue gas and cool water flow. This new technology solves these problems. A 29-MW gas boiler was transformed by the new technology, having been tested throughout an entire heating season. As a result, the exhaust gas of the direct-contact total heat exchanger decreased to 27.4 °C, with an average COPh and COPove,h of approximately 1.69 and 1.57, respectively. The mean heat recovered was 2.67 MW, yielding a heating efficiency increase of 11.54% and a saving in natural gas consumption of 8.75 × 105 Nm3 per year. Testing showed that the NOx reduction rate was 10.48% and the condensation water flow was 3.11 t/h. Hence, this technology achieved excellent results for both energy conservation and emission reduction, thereby proving the feasibility of its large-scale application.

A Study of the Design and Analysis of Two Exhaust Heat Recovery Systems for Public Shower Facilities

Abstract:For large-scale public shower facilities which open up at a specified time, (such as those in schools, barracks, and natatoriums), a great deal of heat is wasted. If this exhaust heat can be recovered and recycled, it will have significant impact in saving energy and environmental protection, with significant economic benefits. In this paper, two different kinds of heat pumps, an electric and an absorption heat pump, used in heat recovery systems are proposed. Specifically, the used shower water is drained through a pipe and first collected in a gray water pool. After a period of time, as the wastewater accumulates volume, the heat pump system can begin heat recovery and recycling. The wastewater is filtered through a filter and piped to a heat exchanger to heat the tap water. Therefore, the tap water temperature can be heated from 12°C to 25°C, and the wastewater temperature will drop from 30°C to 17 °C. Afterwards, the wastewater is piped to the heat pump evaporator and the tap water piped to the condenser for additional heating. At the same time, according to the different characteristics of the electric heat pump and absorption heat pump, different heat recovery system processes and control are detailed. On this basis, the paper analyses the economic and environmental benefit of three schemes for retrofitting based on a practical example: “exhaust heat recovery using electric heat pump”, “exhaust heat recovery using electric heat pump + gas boiler” and “exhaust heat recovery using direct-fired heat pump”, then finds that direct-fired absorption heat pump heat recovery have lower energy consumption, less pollution, lower operating costs, payback period is shorter and has a promising practical application.© 2010 ASME
Energy-Saving Operation Modes for a Heat Recovery Unit in Office Building

Abstract:The current proportion of fresh air load in the building energy consumption is very large, and heat recovery can effectively reduce fresh air load. It is important to analyze the annual operation of heat recovery units in air conditionings in detail in order to improve the running situation. For an office building in Beijing, the heat pipe heat recovery unit developed by the research group was adopted in the air conditioning system. The office building model was set up with DeST software, which was designed for building energy consumption by Tsinghua University. The two fan-coil and fresh air system was used for the air conditioning. The balance temperature was introduced for dividing the annual on-off time period and the operation mode for the heat recovery unit. The heat recovery figure was drawn according to the atmosphere data. The heat transfer rate was obtained for different operation modes. The fresh air load could be saved by 62.6%to 66%, and the energy efficiency was obvious.

Abstract:Industrial exhaust flue gas contains massive heat and water. Effective recovery will make positive sense for energy saving and conservation. Traditional condensing heat exchanger is restricted by coolant water temperature and corrosion problem. This paper proposes a new open absorption heat pump (OAHP). The system works on the basis of directly contacting spray heat and mass transfer occurring in three main parts, including generator, condenser and absorber. Driven by high-temperature flue gas directly from a burner, the system generates strongly concentrated LiBr solution prepared for the absorption of moisture and heat from the objective flue gas. A detailed theoretical model is established in Eulerian-Lagrangian formulation to simulate the particle dynamics and the heat and mass transfer characteristics. Extraordinary temperature profiles different from those in common heat transfer are found in the generator and are explained by the conjugate heat and mass transfer. The effects of the driving flue gas temperature and the return water temperature on system performances are studied. The OAHP system achieves excellent heat recovery capacity even at high return water temperature, indicating superiority to the condensing heat exchanger.
Liquid Desiccant Total Heat Recovery System with Single-Stage Spray Unit for Outdoor Air Handler

Abstract:In air conditioning system, an increased outdoor air flow rate improves the indoor air quality but also increases the energy consumption of the fan. This paper describes a liquid desiccant total heat recovery device combined with a single-stage sprayed module for an outdoor air handling unit. The liquid desiccant total heat recovery device has higher efficiency and avoids cross contamination of the air streams. Average electrical and thermal coefficient of performance (COP) of the air processor are 9.4 and 3.0 in summer with an average thermal COP of 2.2 in winter. With the current energy prices in Beijing, the operating cost of the new outdoor air handler is about 75% of the cost of a conventional outdoor air handler in the summer and 25% of that in the winter.

Abstract:With the reduction in fossil fuels and growing concerns about global warming, energy has become one of the most important issues facing humanity. It is crucial to improve energy utilization efficiency and promote a low-carbon transition. In comparison with traditional heat exchangers, heat pipe heat exchangers indicate high compactness, a flexible arrangement, complete separation of hot and cold fluids, good isothermal operations, etc. As a result, heat pipe heat exchangers have attracted wide attention and application in various fields in recent years. This paper provides an overview of the application of heat pipe heat exchangers, with a focus on the application in waste heat recovery, and analyzes the opportunities and challenges of heat pipe heat exchanger applications based on existing publications.

New Method of Industrial Waste Heat Recovery

Abstract:Presents new district heating system with cogeneration based on absorption heat exchange cycle,absorption heat pump and absorption heat exchanger using in waste heat recovery are introduced.Two demonstrations in Chifeng City and Datong are illustrated,the results show that the energy saving rate of these two projects is about 50%.The high-temperature steam abstracted from steam turbine drives the absorption heat pump to recover the waste heat in power plant and other industry.The water temperature of primary heating network can be heated in steps,and the hot water is supplied to the buildings.In the context of energy shortage,Co-ah cycle(cogeneration based on absorption heat exchange) will play an important role in industrial waste heat recovery and urban district heating.

Abstract:With the rapid increase of Internet data centers (IDCs), a large amount of electricity is consumed for IDCs' cooling, and a considerable amount of heat is exhausted directly into the ambient all year round. On the other hand, to efficiently and cleanly heat the room in cold regions a lot of energy is consumed. In this study, a heat recovery system based on a water-cooled integrated air conditioner with thermosyphon is proposed. To analyze the feasibility and energy performance of the system, a steady-state hourly energy model of the system was developed. The energy performance of a typical system located in Beijing was analyzed, and compared with the most common cooling and heating method in China. The results show that the system can substantially reduce the energy consumption of IDCs for cooling and the energy consumption of buildings for heating simultaneously. It should be an alternative heating system making use of potential heating and natural cooling resources.

Abstract:Both ground source heat pump and radiant system have attracted more and more attention as the examples of Low-exergy utilization to reduce energy consumption in buildings. This study emphasizes on the cooling performance of a real hybrid recovery ground source heat pump system coupled by thermally activated building systems (TABSs) in a residential district in a hot summer and cold winter region. Based on the recorded data in the building energy management system (BEMS) from 2018 to 2020, comprehensive analysis was carried out in the view of exergy. The COP and the exergy efficiency of the entire system can be up to 5.49 and 16%, respectively. The hybrid ground source system with cooling tower improved the operation performance as the condensate water temperature can be limited to below 40 °C. Nevertheless, the cooling tower was sensitive to the surrounding environment, and which caused more exergy destruction in operation. In addition, as the TABS cooling proportion went up the exergy efficiency of the cooling emission system increased as well as the building cooling load. However, the exergy product of the energy source system did not well match the demands in the end. The TABS and fresh air system simultaneously shared with the energy system whose chilled water temperature was 7–10 °C. The benefit of TABSs in low-exergy utilization cannot be taken. Thus, an energy system with multiple temperatures is recommended. The chilled water with higher temperature can be provided to TABS to improve the system exergy efficiency further; while the water with lower temperature can be supplied to the air handle units for dehumidification.

Thermo-economical Analysis of Heat Recovery Application of the Integral Heat Pipe Heat Exchanger

Abstract:The Effectiveness-NTU method is used in the present study, together with standard meteorological year data. The initial investment and operating cost are given to establish the object function of heat exchanger effectiveness and net income in the life cycle. The optimizing heat exchanger effectiveness and net income of different climate regions are obtained within the same life cycle by calculating the typical climate cities, such as Harbin, Zhangjiakou, Beijing, Shanghai, Kunming and Guangzhou. The results indicate that the payback time is listed ascending and the data of optimizing heat exchanger effectiveness and net income is listed descending for different regions in the same life cycle, which is Harbin, Zhangjiakou, Beijing, Shanghai, Kunming and Guangzhou. Except for Guangzhou, the proportion of energy saving accounted for annual energy saving is smaller and the energy-saving effect of heat recovery isn’t obvious in summer. But the energy-saving effect of heat recovery is obvious in winter.
