Theoretical model and multi-factors research of formation mechanism of internet addiction

Abstract:OBJECTIVE: To analyze the recent researches domestically and abroad on the cause mechanism of internet addiction,and propose the further research forecast,with the expectation of providing aids for the researches and practices on the prevention,intervention,adjustment and treatment of internet addiction. DATA SOURCES: The relevant articles on internal addiction between January 1990 and December 2005 were searched for in ProQuest Psychology Journals Database with the key words of "Internet Addiction,Cyber Addiction,Computer Addiction,Online Addiction,Problematic Internet Use",and the language was classified as English. Meanwhile,the relevant articles were searched for in China Journal Full-text Database (CJFD) of China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI) network by imputing the key word "internet addiction" in Chinese into computer. STUDY SELECTION: The literatures were selected primarily. Inclusion criterion: Those researches about the cause mechanism of internet addiction were excluded,while the main reference to the key literatures were selected for tracing related full texts. Exclusion criterion: repetitive researches. DATA EXTRACTION: There were 50 literatures in accordance with the above-mentioned criteria,and 26 were selected for analysis after classifying and arranging. Those articles with repetitive content and irrelated topics were excluded. DATA SYNTHESIS: The cause mechanism of internet addiction were analyzed and summarized from three layouts of construction,description and positive research on theoretical model in this paper. The occurrence of internet addiction is effected directly as well as indirectly by the interaction of multi-factors: cognition,motive,behavior,personality and society,etc. Nowadays scarce researches on the cause mechanism of internet addiction present in China,in which the researches are lay upon the theoretical discussion and describing phenomena. CONCLUSION: The inclination of future research is bound to enforce theoretical research and verify various hypotheses. At the same time,the sophisticated plan of the prevention and intervention on the basis of origin mechanism of internet addiction calls on emergency.
