Abstract:There were no fully accepted diagnostic scales for internet addiction so far. Research methods and techniques in this field were not mature yet.The theoretical mechanism should be further explored too.The Social-Psychological-Physiological Model, based on a lot of experiments and theoretical exploration,might clarify the puzzling phenomenon. It was suggested that some important topics on Internet addiction be examined in the fu- ture, such as (1) the characteristics of cerebra activities , (2) interaction among the characteristics of internet virtual environment, Internet behaviors and personality of Internet users, and ( 3 ) emotion communication and emotion identification during logging on Internet.

Abstract:OBJECTIVE: To analyze the recent researches domestically and abroad on the cause mechanism of internet addiction,and propose the further research forecast,with the expectation of providing aids for the researches and practices on the prevention,intervention,adjustment and treatment of internet addiction. DATA SOURCES: The relevant articles on internal addiction between January 1990 and December 2005 were searched for in ProQuest Psychology Journals Database with the key words of "Internet Addiction,Cyber Addiction,Computer Addiction,Online Addiction,Problematic Internet Use",and the language was classified as English. Meanwhile,the relevant articles were searched for in China Journal Full-text Database (CJFD) of China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI) network by imputing the key word "internet addiction" in Chinese into computer. STUDY SELECTION: The literatures were selected primarily. Inclusion criterion: Those researches about the cause mechanism of internet addiction were excluded,while the main reference to the key literatures were selected for tracing related full texts. Exclusion criterion: repetitive researches. DATA EXTRACTION: There were 50 literatures in accordance with the above-mentioned criteria,and 26 were selected for analysis after classifying and arranging. Those articles with repetitive content and irrelated topics were excluded. DATA SYNTHESIS: The cause mechanism of internet addiction were analyzed and summarized from three layouts of construction,description and positive research on theoretical model in this paper. The occurrence of internet addiction is effected directly as well as indirectly by the interaction of multi-factors: cognition,motive,behavior,personality and society,etc. Nowadays scarce researches on the cause mechanism of internet addiction present in China,in which the researches are lay upon the theoretical discussion and describing phenomena. CONCLUSION: The inclination of future research is bound to enforce theoretical research and verify various hypotheses. At the same time,the sophisticated plan of the prevention and intervention on the basis of origin mechanism of internet addiction calls on emergency.

Abstract:Internet is becoming an important part of our daily life.But overuse of the Internet will lead to both physical and mental disorders,which are called as the Internet Addiction Disorder(IAD).Based on the recent research literatures,this article summarizes the concept,diagnostic criteria and recovery process of IAD,and examines the relationship between IAD and some relevant variables such as Internet features and user's personality.The therapy to IAD and further research orientations are also discussed.

Abstract:With the rapid development of Internet technology, adolescent internet addiction has become a global social issue. This paper aims to deeply analyze the causes of adolescents' obsession with the internet and explore effective intervention strategies. Through literature review, this study has collected a large amount of data to reveal the psychological, social, and environmental factors behind internet addiction. The study found that the main reasons for adolescent internet addiction include unmet psychological needs, the influence of family environment, the lack of school education, and the temptation of social culture. On this basis, this paper proposes a series of intervention measures, including strengthening mental health education, improving family communication, optimizing the school education model, and building a healthy online environment. Finally, this paper discusses the limitations of the study and makes suggestions for future research directions. This study not only provides a new perspective for understanding the phenomenon of adolescent internet addiction but also provides a theoretical basis and practical guidance for formulating relevant policies and practices.

Abstract:The rapid development of Internet technology has made it widely used in the daily life of the public. As the main group of current Internet users, teenagers are more likely to form "Internet addiction" than other age groups due to factors ranging from micro to macro. This will undoubtedly have a negative impact on their physical and mental health and academic life. Based on this, this article summarizes and discusses adolescent Internet addiction from the perspective of psychological crisis management and intervention. Abstract:Backgrounds: The development of the Internet has changed interpersonal interactions, so that people no longer need to physically meet each other. However, some people are more vulnerable to becoming addicted to Internet activities, something to which the ease of Internet access and usage has contributed. In this study, we examined the association between personality traits and feelings about online interpersonal interactions to predict Internet addiction. This was accomplished using an online advertisement that asked participants to complete the questionnaires in the laboratory. Methods: Two hundred and twenty-three participants with a mean age of 22.50 years were recruited for this study and asked to complete the following questionnaires: the Beck Depressive Inventory (BDI), the Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI), the Chen Internet Addiction Scale (CIAS), the Eysenck Personality Questionnaire (EPQ), the Internet Usage Questionnaire (IUQ) and the Feelings of Internet Interpersonal Interaction Questionnaire (FIIIQ). Results: The results showed that people with a neurotic personality and anxious feelings about Internet interpersonal interactions are more likely to become addicted to the Internet. In addition, people with neuroticism and who are more anxious about Internet interpersonal relationships are more likely to develop Internet addiction. Conclusions: People who tend to develop new interpersonal relationships via the Internet and be anxious about online interpersonal relationships are more vulnerable to becoming addicted to the Internet. The individuals who are more anxious about Internet interpersonal interaction and tend to develop new interpersonal relationships via the Internet are more likely to develop Internet addiction.

Abstract:Internet addiction (IA) may constitute a widespread and serious mental problem. Previous reviews have not fully considered potential factors that may contribute to therapeutic outcomes or predict behavioral changes. Such information is relevant to understand the active ingredients of interventions and to develop more efficacious treatments that target features of IA. This systematic review was designed to relate theories of IA to treatments, describe studies of psychotherapies for IA, and propose a model of addiction and interventions based on extant studies. A computer database search of PubMed, PsychINFO, ScienceDirect, China National Knowledge Infrastructure, and Google Scholar was conducted to identify all available research evidence on psychological treatments for IA (N = 31 studies). Among these psychological interventions, the targeted reduction of addiction-related impulsivity and craving, improvement of cognitive maladjustment, and alleviation of family problems have been investigated in IA interventions. The targeted domains and intervention methods are not mutually exclusive, and further research is needed to demonstrate the effective components and mechanisms of action for treatments of IA. Such research will help generate more efficacious evidence-based interventions.

The Relationship Between College Students'Settlement of Social Problems and Their Tendency Toward Internet Addiction:the Mediating Effect of Social Avoidance and Distress

Abstract:This article aims to probe into the relationship between such factors as the settlement of social problems,social avoidance and distress,and the tendency toward Internet addiction,by using a questionnaire to survey 495 college students.The results show the following:(1) The tendency toward the positive or rational settlement of problems has a significantly negative correlation with social avoidance,or distress,or the tendency toward Internet addiction;the tendency toward the negative settlement of problems or the avoidance of the settlement of problems has a significantly positive correlation with social avoidance,or distress,or the tendency toward Internet addiction;the tendency toward Internet addiction and social avoidance or distress show a significantly positive correlation;the avoidance of the settlement of problems,the tendency toward the negative settlement of problems,social avoidance and distress can all serve as positive predictors of the tendency toward Internet addiction. (2) Social avoidance and distress have a significantly mediating effect on the relationship between the tendency toward the negative settlement of problems,or the avoidance of the settlement of problems,or the rational settlement of problems,and the tendency toward Internet addiction.The settlement of college students' social problems may have an indirect effect on their tendency toward Internet addiction through social avoidance and distress.

Abstract:The internet has permeated all aspects of our social lives,and the problems arising from excessive indulgence in internet have increased steadily.The juvenile internet addiction has become a social problem which draws general concern in our society.This paper reviews and evaluates the research on the reasons of juvenile internet addiction as follows: the network,the individual,the family and the society.Network features have led to the tendency of juvenile internet addiction,individual negative personality characteristics and maladaptive-cognition are easy to develop pathological behavior of network.The adverse environment and the way of family education have an important impact on juvenile internet addiction.The lack of social support and interaction and the combat of social life events would encourage young people to depend on network excessively.The deficiency existing in current research is mainly as follows: being at the exploratory stage,the drawback of research methods,the weakness of basic theories and the lack of localization.

Abstract:Background. Despite the growing prevalence of internet usage among young people, the relationships between internet addiction, online social anxiety, fear of missing out (FoMO), and interpersonal sensitivity remain uncertain, intricate, and multifaceted. To gain insight into the underlying psychological mechanisms, we employed network analysis to explore the interconnections between them. This endeavor may provide fresh opportunities for intervention and treatment. Methods. In this study, 470 participants were assessed at age from 18 to 22 ( M = 20.18 years, SD = 1.861 ) years. Network analysis was used to examine the connections between symptoms, and statistical measures were applied to assess the stability of the network model. Results. Online social anxiety and interpersonal sensitivity had the strongest associations with other symptoms in the network, with “Evaluation anxiety” having the highest expected influence centrality, followed by “Privacy concern anxiety,” “Need for approval,” “Suspicion,” and “vulnerability.” The FoMO symptom, “Fear of missing information,” had the strongest direct relation to internet addiction. “Evaluation anxiety” and “Fear of missing information” played a key role in bridging internet addiction and interpersonal sensitivity. Additionally, the structure distribution of edge weights had a significant difference between gender. Conclusions. Our findings indicated that FoMO, interpersonal sensitivity, and online social anxiety likely play a significant role in the development and continuation of internet addiction. Interpersonal sensitivity seems to contribute to increased online social anxiety, FoMO, and the development of internet addiction, indicating that targeting these symptoms may help reduce negative online behavior and psychological burden.

Abstract:In China, public concern continues to mount regarding the risks of excessive Internet use among adolescents. This study investigated the factors influencing Internet addiction and adolescent risk behaviors among excessive Internet users. Proposing a conceptual model with a theoretical origin in risk behavior theory and media dependency theory, this study examined the influence of personality traits, online gaming, Internet connectedness (both the overall index and various scopes), and demographics on Internet addiction and risk behaviors (smoking, drinking, gambling, and risky sexual behaviors). Clinical data (N=467) were retrieved from one of the earliest and largest Internet addiction clinics in China. The findings reveal that certain personality traits are significantly associated with Internet addiction and risk behaviors. Online gaming had a strong impact on both Internet addiction and risk behaviors among excessive Internet users. The study also reveals that various scopes of Internet connectedness, such as site scope, facilitate addictive Internet use, and risk behaviors among adolescents. The findings can contribute to the prevention of and intervention into Internet addiction and adolescent risk behaviors.

Abstract:Researchers in information systems have studied how nonintentional elements of our psychology such as personality, addiction, and even sheer habit, can waylay us from our original purpose of using information technology. This study seeks to reintegrate these elements to present a holistic framework comparing Internet addiction with Internet habit in terms of their antecedent personality factors and their consequences. We tested the framework against data from a time-lagged survey of Internet users. As hypothesized, sensation seeking, neuroticism, and dysfunctional impulsivity influenced Internet addiction. In comparison, only neuroticism and dysfunctional impulsivity were significant in Internet habit. Furthermore, Internet addiction influences relative usage and negative outcomes, and habit further increases its influence on negative outcomes. Our findings contribute to the body of knowledge by showing the personality antecedents and behavioral consequences of Internet addiction, and by highlighting the similarity, difference, and interaction between Internet habit and Internet addiction.
