An Open CNC Syetem for WEDM Based on Real-time Ethernet

Abstract:An open CNC system for wire-cutting EDM based on EMC2 and Ethernet POWERLINK is introduced.This system adopts modular structure,which employs a PC as a master,it manages the Ethernet POWERLINK controlled nodes and implements the numerical control and HMI by running EMC2.FPGA works as Ethernet POWERLINK controlled node to detect discharge status and to convert control instructions into voltage signals to manipulate the steppers.The real-time data between managing node and controlled node is transmitted through Ethernet POWERLINK.Test cuts show that this CNC system works well on WEDM.
