Abstract:In three-dimensional laser imaging system, multi-channel laser transmitting and receiving can increase the coverage area and provide better surface information and roughness than traditional single channel. The multi-channel laser beams can be realized by a diffractive beam-splitter, and in this paper the problem of designing a binary beam-splitter that produces 8x8 uniform intensity beams from a Gaussian-profile input beam is considered. To produce spots with even number, each period of the beam-splitter is divided into four phase-inverse parts to compress the even diffractive orders and reserve the odd orders. Simulated annealing algorism is applied in the beam-splitter design and in the numerical simulation, fabrication error tolerance, environmental issues, input field fluctuation and other factors are considered. The simulated results show that the performance of the device is quite insensitive to the amplitude fluctuation of input laser beam, the diffractive efficiency exceeds 77% and the uniformity between spots is about 0.12%, which confirm the efficiency of the design. This device will be fabricated in our lab soon.

Abstract:The synchronization control technique is one of the most key techniques in the laser range gated (LRG) imaging system. Conventional control circuits are composed of discrete components and Medium Scale Integration (MSI) and Small Scale Integration (SSI), which have bad reliability and poor ability of anti-interference. The idea of using the Complex Programmable Logic Device (CPLD) to realize the monostable trigger circuit is introduced. On the basis of analyzing the performance requirement to the synchronization control of the laser range gated imaging system, a new synchronization control circuit based on CPLD is presented. The circuit based on CPLD is very compact and flexible and has high reliability and strong ability of anti-interference. The synchronization control circuit based on CPLD can provide a wide selection of gate widths, pulse widths and delays. The synchronization control circuit is successfully used in our experiment and the expected result is obtained.

Abstract:A simple and low-cost laser interlock is presented that operates via software commands issued by an ESP32 microcontroller. The architecture of the device is constructed to ensure the laser output is shut off in the event of either an open circuit on the interlock signal line from the laser enclosure or loss of power to the device. Unintentional exposure to the laser beam is prevented by overruling local controls (such as a keypad), until both the enclosure is re-interlocked and the user actively intervenes. The device presented is designed to close the mechanical shutter of a Spectra-Physics Millennia Pro pump laser while it continues to operate internally. The hardware and coding are versatile enough to be deployed on any instrument that receives software commands via a serial interface.

Abstract:A novel contact-switch microactuator controlled by laser-induced photothermal expansion was presented.The drive performance,which is influenced by shape parameters was analyzed.Microactuaors with different lengths have been fabricated using KrF excimer laser.The red laser of 655 nm was used as the drive source of the laser-controlling photothermal experiment setup.The comparing experiments between the microactuators have been carried out with this experimental setup.The experiments results indicate that the contact deflection increases when the length of the microactuator elongated(laser power constant) or the laser power enlarged(length constant).This novel microactuator has a simple structure and is convenient to be fabricated.It could be manipulated by laser remotely and non-contact,therefore it has a better integral performance.

Abstract:Laser beam scanning is central to many applications, including displays, microscopy, three-dimensional mapping, and quantum information. Reducing the scanners to microchip form factors has spurred the development of very-large-scale photonic integrated circuits of optical phased arrays and focal plane switched arrays. An outstanding challenge remains to simultaneously achieve a compact footprint, broad wavelength operation, and low power consumption. Here, we introduce a laser beam scanner that meets these requirements. Using microcantilevers embedded with silicon nitride nanophotonic circuitry, we demonstrate broadband, one- and two-dimensional steering of light with wavelengths from 410 nm to 700 nm. The microcantilevers have ultracompact ~0.1 mm 2 areas, consume ~31 to 46 mW of power, are simple to control, and emit a single light beam. The microcantilevers are monolithically integrated in an active photonic platform on 200-mm silicon wafers. The microcantilever-integrated photonic circuits miniaturize and simplify light projectors to enable versatile, power-efficient, and broadband laser scanner microchips.

Abstract:It was first reported that by putting a ��/2 phase plate inside the cavity (instead of outside), the multi-mode oscillation can be effectively restrained so that a new beam output can be realized efficiently on a CO2 laser with a tube length L=900mm, tube diameter D=9mm, R1=��, R2=3m, and a discharge length=800mm. This approach provides the possibility for not only the birth of a new generation CO2 lasers but also the improvement of other types of lasers.

Abstract:To augment the intelligence and safety of a rocket or ammunition engine start, an intelligent initiation system needs to be included in the data link. A laser-controlled intelligent initiation system with inherent safety and a laser-controlled explosion-initiating device (LCEID) incorporating electromagnetic pulse (EMP) resistant, safe-and-arms fast-acting modular device based on photovoltaic power converter technology is designed and fabricated in this work. LCEID is an integrated multi-function module consisting of the optical beam expander, GaAs photovoltaic (PV) array, safe-and-arms integrated circuit, and low-energy initiator. These components contribute to EMP resistance, fast-acting, safe-and-arm, and reliable firing, respectively. To achieve intelligent initiation, each LCEID has a unique "identification information" and a "broadcast address" embedded in integrated-circuit read-only memory (ROM), which is controlled by encoded laser addressing. The GaAs PV array was investigated to meet the low-energy initiator firing voltage requirements. Experimental results show that the open-circuit voltage, short-circuit current, and maximum power output of the four-junction GaAs PV array illuminated by a 5.5 W/cm2 laser beam were 220 mA, 21.5 V, and 3.70 W, respectively. When the voltage of the 22 μF energy storage capacitor exceeds 20 V, the laser charging time is found to be shorter than 2.5 s. Other aspects of LCEID, such as laser energy coupling efficiency, the firing process, and the energy-boosting mechanism, were explored. Measurements show that the coupling efficiency of the micro lens with a radius of curvature D = 20 μm and size of r = 50 μm reaches a maximum of 93.5%. Furthermore, for more than 18 V charge voltage, the LCEID is found to perform reliably. The fabricated LCEID demonstrated a high level of integration and intrinsic safety, as well as a finely tailored initiation performance that could be useful in military applications.

Abstract:We demonstrate a fully solid-state beam scanner that incorporates a Si3N4 photonic integrated switch array, a collimator lens, and a lithographically patterned diffraction grating. The off-chip components enable nearly circular output beams under the reduced system complexity. By manipulating the optical switch array and tuning the input wavelength, two-dimensional beam steering with $32\times23$ = 736 resolvable spots across a $14.3^{\circ }\times 9.9^{\circ }$ field of view (FOV) is realized. Furthermore, the coherent ranging within 18 m is demonstrated experimentally by utilizing the triangular frequency modulation. The tested results validate the feasibility of the proposed beam scanner, which might offer a flexible, scalable, and easily-implemented solution for the solid-state frequency modulated continuous-wave (FMCW) LiDAR.
A microcontroller based self-locking laser system

Abstract:We present a self-locking laser system that does not require operator interventions. The system automatically finds a desired atomic transition and subsequently locks to it. Moreover, it has the ability to automatically detect if the laser is out of lock and activate the re-locking process. The design was implemented on two different diode lasers, a distributed Bragg reflector (DBR) diode laser and a Fabry Perot (FP) diode laser, used as a repump laser for a magneto-optical trap in a laser cooling experiment and a Raman laser for a four-level Raman transition experiment, respectively. The design relies on frequency modulation transfer spectroscopy to obtain a sub-Doppler atomic spectrum of rubidium-85. This spectrum is then demodulated to obtain zero-crossing linear slopes at the exact points of each atomic and crossover transition. The frequency modulation, the signal analysis, and the automatic locking and re-locking of the lasers are all implemented using an Arduino Due microcontroller. The lock loop has a bandwidth of 7 kHz. The lasers used for the design are characterized, and the robustness of the lock is analyzed. The achieved linewidths of DBR and FP lasers are 1.4 and 5.5 MHz, respectively. The frequency drifts of both lasers are a few 100 kHz over a course of days. The capture range of the locking system is up to 4.9 GHz for the DBR laser and 725 MHz for the FP laser. Both lasers performed well under actual experimental conditions.

Abstract:Laser tweezers can capture and move small particles. It has advantages such as non-contact and non-invasive, which make it very useful in biology, medicine, materials fields. Laser scissors or laser micro-beam can perforate or cut biological tissue with sub-micron accuracy. A workstation combining the two technologies together acting as a cellular operating lab is introduced in this paper. Our system features a multifunctional and user-friendly control software, which make the system effective and convenient. Based on this control program both laser tweezers and scissors can be operated with a computer automatically. In addition, some self-developed devices such as PZT drivers and photodetector give the system a high performance in accuracy and stability. All these make our system convenient, multifunctional and powerful.

Abstract:For compact and lightweight LASERs, producing stable output laser beams in adverse environments, such as high-vibration and high-temperature shock is a global problem. A solid-state high-power pulsed LASER is developed in this study. This LASER adopts tightly set six-channel LD pumped configuration and a single-aperture output scheme employs mutual-injection and confinement technic. By applying the method "confining oscillation and amplification", LASER parameters are: 100 mm x 100 mm x 300 mm in block dimension, 1.06 mu m in wavelength, 10Hz, 9.66J/pulse@0.5ms, beam quality 5mm x 2mrad, energy instability < 2%, and another beam: 3.1J/pulse@8.39ns, beam quality 5 mm x 2.5 mrad. The LASER is compact, lightweight, highly reliable, and with high pulse energy and excellent beam quality, thus allowing long-pulse and short-pulse operations. The developed approach can be potentially used for future applications.

Abstract:This paper summarizes the existing technologies in the field of photoelectric countermeasure, discusses the challenges faced by laser angle deception jamming technology, and comprehensively expounds the development direction of photoelectric countermeasure in the field of laser angle deception jamming. In the field of laser jamming technology, the different ways of laser jamming technology and the development of laser jamming weapons are studied. Through the analysis of the principle of laser semi-active guidance and laser angle deception jamming technology, it is found that the traditional laser guidance technology can be intercepted, copied and finally released by our side for decoying because of the simplicity of its laser coding, but facing the new laser guidance technology and the improved laser coding technology, our laser decoying system will face the risk of failure. Therefore, the future laser angle deception jamming must solve the problem of how to avoid the influence of laser coding technology on laser decoy jamming.

Abstract:A laser display system consisting of laser, graph input unit, drivers, optical stage and large screen is developed. A deflection angle determined by polarization filter corresponds with any point P at the graph displayed on the large screen, and point P can be scanned through accurately controlling deflection angle of the polarization filter. The experiments show that the dynamic output of multi-function intelligent video images such as function graph, grating diffraction patterns, light net, light column, character and cartoon can be performed by the system.

Abstract:This paper presents a sub-ns pulsed laser diode driver IC for multi-junction vertical-cavity surface-emitting laser (VCSEL) arrays. An embedded real-time adaptive current control loop keeps the error of laser current amplitude within $\pm 3\%$ for 900ps $\sim 32\mathrm{~ns}$ pulses, even with PVT variations of the VCSEL and the driver. A boost switching regulator is integrated into the IC to convert a low supply voltage to the $5\sim 8.5\mathrm{~V}$ laser anode supply. A complete set of laser safety check blocks are integrated to guarantee class-1 eye safety, as the driver IC can stop emitting and cut off the laser supply when a laser safety hazard is detected.
