Abstract:The incorrectness of two results in the article“Disk Theory for Tensor Product of Matrix”by Tong and the book“Spectral Theory of Matrix”by Pang is shown and the cause of these mistakes is pointed out.In addition,we also gave some improved results of tensor product of matrix.

Abstract:In this note, we present perturbation analysis for the T-product based tensor singular values defined by Lu et al. First, the Cauchy's interlacing-type theorem for tensor singular values is given. Then, the inequalities about the difference between the singular values of two matrices proposed by Mirsky are extended to tensor cases. Finally, we introduce some useful inequalities for the singular values of tensor products and sums.

Abstract:The incorrect deduction of equations in the research works devoted to the studies of transient stress in cylindrically orthotropic tubes and done by Kardomateas (Journal of Applied Mechanics,1989, 1990) leads to the wrong results. The errata (1991) correct the deduction error, but do not give the right numerical results. All errors are corrected, and the Mathematica is adopted to solve the large argument problem for Bassel function. A theoretical solution of the transient thermal stresses in tubes with uniform form is presented, and a numerical example is studied.

Abstract:In 2001, Chang studied the convergence of parallel multisplitting TOR method for H-matrices [D.W. Chang, The parallel multisplitting TOR(MTOR) method for linear systems, Comput. Math. Appl. 41 (2001), pp. 215-227]. In this paper, we point out some gaps in the proof of Chang's main results solving them. Moreover, we improve some of Chang's convergence results. A numerical example is presented in order to illustrate the improvement of Chang's convergence region.

Math. 224 (2009) 709-718] proposed the special HSS iteration methods for positive definite linear systems Ax=b with A@?C^n^x^n a complex Toeplitz matrix. But we find that the special HSS iteration methods are incorrect. Some examples are given in our paper.

Abstract:In the above paper (H. H. Choi, IEEE Trans. Automat. Contr., vol. 46, pp. 504-8, 2001), new methods to obtain upper matrix bounds for a discrete algebraic Riccati equation (DARE) have been established, but the author assumes that the system matrix A is nonsingular and DARE has a positive-definite solution. In this note, some similar results can be obtained when a solution is positive-semidefinite and there are no extra assumption that A is nonsingular. In reply the original author explains some of the underlying assumptions and comments on the computational burdens in the inequality in the commenters' note.

Linear Algebra and its Applications

Abstract:We consider some conjectures of D. Hershkowitz and A. Berman in concerning the localization of eigenvalues of P- and P0-matrices. We show that two of these conjectures are false. We improve a classical formula of Routh's to prove our results. Also we reconsider a theorem of Kellogg's with the generalized result.

Abstract:This paper is the Part II of a serious work about T product tensors focusing at establishing new probability bounds for sums of random, independent, T product tensors. These probability bounds characterize large deviation behavior of the extreme eigenvalue of the sums of random T product tensors. We apply Lapalace transform method and Lieb concavity theorem for T product tensors obtained from our Part I paper, and apply these tools to generalize the classical bounds associated with the names Chernoff, and Bernstein from the scalar to the T product tensor setting. Tail bounds for the norm of a sum of random rectangular T product tensors are also derived from corollaries of random Hermitian T product tensors cases. The proof mechanism is also applied to T product tensor valued martingales and T product tensor based Azuma, Hoeffding and McDiarmid inequalities are derived.

Abstract:In this work, we investigate the tensor inequalities in the tensor t-product formalism. The inequalities involving tensor power are proved to hold similarly as standard matrix scenarios. We then focus on the tensor norm inequalities. The well-known arithmetic-geometric mean inequality, H{\" o}lder inequality, and Minkowski inequality are generalized to tensors. Furthermore, we obtain some t-eigenvalue inequalities.

Abstract:Some new upper and lower bounds on determinants are presented for diagonally dominant matrices and general -matrices by using different methods. These bounds are some improvements of results given by Ostrowski (1952) and (1937), Price (1951), Wang and Zhang (2002), Huang and Liu (2005), and so forth. In addition, these bounds are also used to localize some numerical characters (e.g., the minimum eigenvalues, singular values and condition numbers) of certain matrices.

Abstract:Tian and Styan have shown many rank equalities for the sum of two and three idempotent matrices and pointed out that rank equalities for the sum P 1 + ⋯ + P k with P 1 , ... , P k be idempotent ( k > 3 ) are still open. In this paper, by using block Gaussian elimination, we obtained rank equalities for the sum of finitely many idempotent matrices and then solved the open problem mentioned above. Extensions to scalar-potent matrices and some related matrices are also included.

Numerical Linear Algebra with Applications

Abstract:This is a survey paper on the recent development of the spectral theory of nonnegative tensors and its applications. After a brief review of the basic definitions on tensors, the H-eigenvalue problem and the Z-eigenvalue problem for tensors are studied separately. To the H-eigenvalue problem for nonnegative tensors, the whole Perron-Frobenius theory for nonnegative matrices is completely extended, while to the Z-eigenvalue problem, there are many distinctions and are studied carefully in details. Numerical methods are also discussed. Three kinds of applications are studied: higher order Markov chains, spectral theory of hypergraphs, and the quantum entanglement.
