Firstly, the cognitive behavior of digital reading consumer is analyzed by using statistical method. Abstract:This study focused on undergraduates with varying reading habits and investigated their behavioral differences as well as the structural relationships between their attitude toward reading paper and digital catalogs, their digital usage behavior, and their paper and on-screen reading literacy. Fifty undergraduate students from Northern Taiwan comprised the sample population and were interviewed in depth. Abstract:This paper adopts the empirical method, comparing the differences between digital reading and paper reading from the perspective of the reader’s lfow experience. The study found that readers’ lfow experience in digital reading is signiifcantly lower than paper reading; Compared to digital reading, there are more readers in the process of paper reading gained the lfow experience. According to the discussion, we believe paper reading can not be replaced at the present stage, but in the future, it may be replaced by digital reading. After summarizing the full text, it is recommended that readers should fully understand, adapt and rational use the two kinds of reading methods, and pay attention to improving the effect of reading.

Abstract:Tertiary institutions are increasingly providing Web‐based courses to learners both on‐campus and off‐campus, enabling more students to take these courses and get the most recent information. Students can also learn more interactively with the new types of instruction methods used online. Synchronous or asynchronous communication via computer networks can also greatly facilitate the learning process. In order to help the teachers and administrators of the Web‐based learning systems to improve the effectiveness of their instruction and design better online learning software, we have implemented an exploratory investigation of the behaviour of the students in the Web‐based learning environment. Multiple approaches were adopted to collect data, which included questionnaires, posted documents, online logs, interviews and observations. Comparison and analyses are also made between students in different semesters, and under different instruction methods. Some viewpoints on the construction of the Web‐based learning systems are proposed.

Abstract:With the continuous integration of information technology and traditional teaching methods, E-learning has gradually become a hot research topic. Our paper first introduces the background, E-learning behaviourï¼ELBï¼features and the necessities of ELB assessment. Then the research focuses on information collection and preservation of student ELB information using wireless Internet web services. The agent technology and statistical analysis methods are applied on student ELB to evaluate ELB findings within the context of behaviour theory and behavioural science. Finally, we conclude the value of this ELB study through correspondence analysis.

Abstract:Purpose Reading represents a basic way by which humans understand the world and acquire knowledge; it is also central to learning and communicating. However, with the rapid development of mobile reading, an individual's cognition of objective facts may be affected by the reading environment and text genre, resulting in limited memorization and understanding of the reading material. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate the influence of the reading environment and text genre on individuals' cognitive activities from the perspective of motivational activation level using evidence from electroencephalography (EEG) signals. Design/methodology/approach The study employed a mixed design experiment with two reading environments (quiet and distracting) between subjects, two text genres (entertaining and scientific) within subjects and two reading tasks (memory recall and comprehension) within subjects. There were 50 participants in the experiment, and the data obtained from 44 participants while they read the materials and completed the reading tasks were analyzed. Findings The results showed that readers are more positively motivated to read in a quiet reading environment than in a distracting reading environment when facing the memory recall tasks of entertaining genre passages and comprehension tasks of scientific genre passages. Entertaining genres are more likely to arouse readers' reading interest but hinder the memory recall of the content details. While scientific genres are not easy to understand, they are helpful for working memory. Originality/value This study not only applies a new technology to mobile reading research in the field of library science and addresses the limitations of self-report data, but also provides suggestions for the further improvement of mobile reading service providers. Additionally, the results may provide useful information for learners with different learning demands.

Abstract:This paper is to present a basic method to test web usability based on eye-movement tracking technique. Eye-tracking technique has been a vital tool in usability field, interactive interface, study of psychology, education, advertisement, etc. Especially in the usability field, with the rapid expansion of information, we focus much on web reading to gain information from the world. Unfortunately, the efficiency of our gathering information cannot match to the rapid pace of society development. Some designs on web pages, meanwhile, would also mislead our direction to read. Consequently, usability testing is to be considered as a good solution to improve our efficiency of reading web page and obtaining information. According to different form of stimuli in usability testing, the results can reflect either the human's public reading behavior testing or the usability testing on specific design, which is the key aspect in this paper.

Abstract:The paper discusses the problem of reading in the digital environment among the young generation. The point of departure is the observation that young people’s reading practices have changed over the last decade. It was hypothesized that the reason for this change is that young people increasingly read electronic texts instead of printed texts. For the study, a literature review was performed, and five focus group discussions with secondary school and university teachers were conducted. Focus group discussions provided empirical material for the analysis of contemporary reading practices and the related problems of the learning process. The literature review and focus group discussions show that reading from screen devices has affected reading strategies and the text decoding and comprehension process. The participants of the discussions pointed to the crucial role of the internet in forming the attitude towards reading and the development of new reading practices among young people. The teachers were generally critical towards the effects of the information and communication technologies and expressed concern about the quality of reading from digital devices. It was pointed out that students now prefer to read shorter pieces of text, they often lack the necessary concentration and, as a result, do not achieve a satisfactory understanding of the text. Reading tends to become a practice of extracting information. Literature review points to the same tendency. The technological embeddedness of reading in the digital age brings about a change in the approach to reading. The internet allows quick access to vast volumes of information and provides the possibility of getting to know many facts, but it fosters extensive rather than intensive or deep reading.

Abstract:The issues of whether mobile-assisted English as a foreign language (EFL) reading is effective have become increasingly important for EFL teachers and policy-makers. However, empirical studies investigating EFL students’ reading comprehension performance on mobile phones and students’ perceptions of these reading formats are lacking. The present research employed questionnaire surveys and semistructured interviews to investigate whether differences exist between mobile-assisted and paper-based EFL reading in terms of participants’ reading comprehension accuracy, reading speed, and reading strategy used (i.e. general, problem-solving or support strategies) and explore EFL learners’ perceptions of mobile-assisted EFL reading. A sample of 81 first-year college students participated in a quasiexperiment, 6 participants participated in a semistructured interview, and a sample of an additional 10 students participated in a pilot study. The analyses, including qualitative descriptions, mixed-design analysis of variance (ANOVA), paired-sample t-tests, and independent-sample t-tests, indicated that participants achieved superior reading comprehension accuracy when reading from printed paper compared to reading from mobile phones. Superior reading speed from paper was observed only when participants were instructed to read and complete the comprehension test the first time, while no difference in speed between the two reading media was observed the second time. Additionally, participants’ use of reading strategies during mobile-assisted EFL reading was not as effective as that during paper reading. Regarding participants’ preferences, most participants (79%) preferred reading from paper over mobile phones because hard copies provided a better reading experience and promoted active reading engagement. However, participants held positive attitudes toward mobile-assisted EFL learning and wanted to continue to read from mobile phones to assist their foreign language learning due to their convenient built-in functions and portability. The implications for the use of mobile devices to assist language pedagogical practice are discussed.
