Abstract:According to thermogravimetric analysis, calcination and sulfation of limestone shows notably different characteristics in air and in an O_2/CO_2 atmosphere. In an O_2/CO_2 atmosphere, because the relatively high CO_2 concentration retards the calcination decomposition process of limestone, the latter, under certain circumstances, enters the CaCO_3-SO_2 sulfation reaction directly, and in addition.does so with a relatively high rapidity.Analyses of the porous structure of sulfated samples by the Pore Master method and SEM,XRD tests, together with a comparison of the dynamic control characteristics of the two processes of sulfation by using unreacted shrinking core models, show that, compared with the traditionally used atmospheric condition of air,the sulfation reaction index σ~2 reduces quicker in a O_2/CO_2 atmosphere under 850(°C) temperature and the influence,of diffusion resistance of the product layer,on the reaction is reduced, which stimulates the reaction to proceed quicker.Figs 10,tables 2 and refs 15.
