Abstract:? As the incidence of cancer increases and patient survival prolongs, the problem of cancer survivors has become increasingly prominent. Unlike cancer patients, they face special physical and mental problems such as short-term and long-term complications and fear of recurrence after returning to society. In recent years, researchers have reported that survivors have a positive psychological reaction of post-traumatic growth, which can help improve the physical and mental health of survivors and improve their quality of life. This paper reviews the concepts of cancer survivors and post-traumatic growth, the level of post-traumatic growth of survivors and intervention measures at home and abroad,aiming to provide a basis for the development of continuing care programs for cancer survivors with Chinese characteristics and the improvement of the quality of life of cancer survivors.

Abstract:? With the increase of cancer incidence and the prolongation of the survival period of patients, the problem of cancer survivors becomes prominent. Foreign studies have shown that survivors will experience the positive change of post-traumatic growth in the process of fighting cancer, and promoting its development is beneficial to the health of survivors. However, due to the underdeveloped community health and other reasons, there is little attention and research on the related problems of cancer survivors in China. This paper reviews the concept, assessment tools and related factors of post-traumatic growth of cancer survivors, in order to provide evidence for the formulation of interventions to promote post-traumatic growth of cancer survivors, in order to improve their physical and psychological wellbeing.

Abstract:Objective: To investigate current situation of posttraumatic growth(PTG) of cancer patients and possible influencing factors,to provide reference to the psychological state of cancer patients.Methods: A total of 80 cancer patients were investigated by filling out Posttraumatic Growth Inventory(PTGI),Social Support Rating Scale(SSRS) and general questionnaire.Results: ①Compared with men,women got higher scores in the PTGI.②Compared with those cancer patients with no spouse,those cancer patients with spouse got higher scores in the PTGI.③The social support were positively correlated with posttraumatic growth.④Regression analysis showed that social support score,gender and cancer staging were the significant factors of patients' posttraumatic growth.Conclusion: Social support,gender and cancer staging are the significant factors of patients' posttraumatic growth.
Effectiveness of psychosocial interventions for posttraumatic growth in patients with cancer: A meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials

Abstract:Purpose: To evaluate the effectiveness of psychosocial interventions for posttraumatic growth in patients with cancer.Method: A systematic literature search was performed, and relevant studies published prior to January 8, 2020, were retrieved from MEDLINE, EMBASE, the Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trails, CINAHL, and PsycINFO. Two reviewers independently assessed the eligibility of each study and extracted the data. The Cochrane risk-of-bias tool was utilized to assess the quality of the studies. Review Manager (Version 5.3) was used to analyse the data. The posttraumatic growth scores were calculated using the standard mean difference (SMD) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs).Results: Fifteen randomized controlled trials published between 2000 and 2019 were included. Most of the studies had a moderate risk of bias due to low methodological quality. The meta-analysis indicated that the PTG scores in the experimental groups were higher than those in the control groups (SMD= 0.42, 95% CI: 0.26-0.57, P < 0.00001). The most effective and commonly used method was mindfulness-based interventions (SMD = 0.55, 95% CI: 0.15-0.95, P = 0.007). Subgroup analysis showed that the effects of psychosocial interventions on breast cancer patients are greater than the effects on other types of cancer patients (SMD = 0.72, 95% CI: 0.44-0.99, P < 0.00001).Conclusion: Psychosocial interventions for cancer patients are effective in facilitating posttraumatic growth. The most commonly used and effective methods are mindfulness-based interventions. More large well-designed randomized controlled trials are needed to identify the effectiveness of psychosocial interventions for posttraumatic growth in patients with cancer.
Posttraumatic Growth in Colorectal Cancer Survivors: A Systematic Review

Abstract:ObjectiveThe diagnosis of cancer is an adverse event; nevertheless, it can also exert positive changes on survivors, such as posttraumatic growth (PTG). This review aims to integrate researches on PTG in colorectal cancer (CRC) survivors, including manifestations and prevalence of PTG, factors associated with PTG and interventions on PTG. MethodsA systematic search was implemented on six databases to identify studies on PTG in CRC survivors published in English or Chinese from October 1995 to May 2022. We also performed a manual search for additional studies from the article reference lists. ResultsThirty-one studies were included. The results were integrated based on the PTG theoretical framework and PTG affective-cognitive processing model. PTG manifests in CRC survivor-caregiver dyads in five domains, including personal growth, appreciation of life, relating to others, new possibilities and spiritual change. Factors correlated with PTG can be integrated into levels of personality, event cognitions, appraisal mechanisms, emotional states, coping and social environmental context. Elements of interventions can be integrated according to the affective-cognitive processing PTG model. Existing interventions are effective in promoting PTG in CRC survivors. ConclusionWe provide a systematic perspective on studies targeting PTG in CRC survivors. PTG manifested in survivor-caregiver dyads. Factors associated with PTG in CRC survivors are significant, and the interventions are effective. An intervention programme based on the affective-cognitive processing model and focused on CRC survivor-caregiver dyads would be significant for the dyads facing cancer.
Post-Traumatic Growth and Its Influencing Factors among Chinese Women with Gynecological Cancer：A Cross-section Study

Abstract:Abstract PurposeThe purpose of this study was to explore the relationship between post-traumatic growth (PTG), spiritual well-being (SWB), and perceived social support (PSS) ,and the related factors of post-traumatic growth among gynecological cancer patients.MethodsWe conducted a cross-section study among 586 gynecological cancer patients. The European Organization for Research and Treatment for Cancer Quality of Life Questionnaire-spiritual well-being32 (EORTC QLQ-SWB32), Post-traumatic Growth Inventory (PTGI), and Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support (MSPSS) were used to measure spiritual well-being, PTG, and PSS. The Multiple Linear Regression Model was used to determine the relationship between post-traumatic growth , spiritual well-being , and perceived social support .ResultsFor all participants, the highest PTGI score was 51.07 on the Appreciation of life scale, and the lowest was 32.84 on the New possibilities Scale.The highest QLQ-SWB32 centesimal score was 75.13 on the Relationship with Other scale, and the lowest was 60.33 on the Relationship with Someone or Something Greater Scale.The highest MSPSS centesimal score was 24.31 on the Family support scale, and the lowest was 20.54 on the Friend Support Scale.We found that Relationship with Self of QLQ-SWB32 was the only scale not associated with post-traumatic growth. Overall, patients with higher level of spiritual well-being and perceived social support have a higher level of post-traumatic growth.Besides, a high Personal strength score was associated with Religious belief (B= 1.615, P< 0.05) and Education background (senior middle school,B= 1.268, P=0.05，college and above，B= 1.450, P<0.05). Patients with higher Global-SWB of EORTC QLQ-SWB32 were retired (B= 0.387, P= 0.019).ConclusionsOur study revealed that patients with gynecological cancer who perceived higher levels of social support would experience greater post-traumatic growth, and spiritual well-being can mediate this effect.Implications for Cancer SurvivorsIncreasing social support and spiritual well-being might be scientific intervention techniques for improving post-traumatic growth in gynecological cancer survivors.

Abstract:Post-traumatic growth in cancer patients refers to perceived positive changes following cancer diagnosis and treatment. Little is known about the status and factors related to posttraumatic growth among Chinese patients with lung cancer. To investigate the status and factors of posttraumatic growth among Chinese patients with lung cancer. A cross-sectional design was adopted in this study. Patients (N = 173) from the oncology unit at one teaching hospital in Sichuan were recruited. Posttraumatic growth, depression, anxiety, and coping style were self-reported by the patients. Multiple linear regression analysis was to examine factors related to posttraumatic growth. Posttraumatic growth was a common exit in Chinese lung cancer patients. Time since cancer diagnosis, patient depression, and coping strategies are factors that affect the experience of posttraumatic growth. Reducing depression, providing available support, and improving active coping strategies are areas to facilitate posttraumatic growth.

Abstract:Positive health endpoints are not the opposite of negative endpoints. Previous studies examining posttraumatic stress disorders (PTSD) and posttraumatic growth (PTG) trajectories have overlooked the co-existence of PTSD and PTG, making it difficult to accurately distinguish individuals with various posttraumatic presentations, causing the effects of targeted interventions to be discounted. To fill this gap, the current study sought to examine joint PTSD and PTG trajectories in children and adolescents. Eight hundred and seventy-six Chinese children and adolescents were recruited to complete self-report questionnaires 6, 12, and 18 months after the Ya'an earthquake. Multiple-process growth mixture modeling analysis was used to test the study proposal. Five distinct joint PTSD and PTG trajectory types were found: recovery, growth, struggling, resistant, and delayed symptoms. Female students and students who felt trapped or fearful were more likely to be in the struggling group, and students who experienced injury to themselves or family members were more likely to belong to the delayed symptom group. These findings suggest that postdisaster psychological services should be provided to relieve delayed symptoms in individuals who experience injury to themselves or their family members, and individuals in the struggling group should be supported to achieve growth.
The prevalence and factors of posttraumatic growth among nurses based on the PTGI: A systematic review and meta‐analysis

Abstract:Background The urgency and risk of clinical nursing may cause nurses to experience traumatic stress, but it may also lead to posttraumatic growth. However, no study has comprehensively analyzed the prevalence of posttraumatic growth among nurses using a unified outcome measure and a validated assessment tool. Aim This study aims to systematically assess the prevalence and factors of posttraumatic growth among nurses based on the Posttraumatic Growth Inventory (PTGI). Methods Ten databases, including The Cochrane Library, PubMed, Web of Science, CINAHL, Springerlink, Embase, Chinese Biomedical (CBM), China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI), WanFang, and VIP databases, were searched as of December 31, 2022. The prevalence of posttraumatic growth was pooled using Stata 17.0 software. The PRISMA guideline was used to report the systematic review and meta‐analysis. PROSPERO registration number: CRD42022365620. Results A total of 30 studies were included in this systematic review and meta‐analysis, consisting of 14,022 nurses worldwide from four countries. In our study, the pooled mean score of posttraumatic growth among nurses was 66.34 (95% CI: 61.25–71.43). From 2015 to 2022, nurses' posttraumatic growth levels gradually increased. In addition, Turkey nurses have the lowest posttraumatic growth levelnurses who experienced workplace violence have a lower posttraumatic growth level compared with other nurses; while nurses aged over 30 and male have higher posttraumatic growth levels. Conclusions While several studies on the prevalence of posttraumatic growth among nurses have been published, the reported data are quite different. Our systematic review and meta‐analysis found that nurses' posttraumatic growth level was "moderate," and nurses' posttraumatic growth may vary based on publication year, country, traumatic event, age, and gender. Implications for nursing and health policy Our findings may provide a theoretical basis for hospital administrators and policy makers to scientifically manage human resources, comprehensively evaluate nurses' mental health, and promote nurses' posttraumatic growth in different traumatic events, which is conducive to the formulation and implementation of relevant policy guidelines.

Characterizing the post-traumatic growth trajectory in gastric cancer survivors: a population-based longitudinal study

Abstract:Objectives: Post-traumatic growth can improve the quality of life of cancer survivors. The objective of this study was to investigate post-traumatic growth heterogeneity trajectory in perioperative gastric cancer survivors, and to identify characteristics that predict membership for each trajectory. Methods: Gastric cancer survivors (n = 403) were recruited before surgery, their baseline assessment (including post-traumatic growth and related characteristics) was completed, and post-traumatic growth levels were followed up on the day they left the intensive care unit, at discharge, and 1 month after discharge. Latent growth mixture mode was used to identify the heterogeneous trajectory of post-traumatic growth, and the core predictors of trajectory subtypes were explored using a decision tree model. Results: Three post-traumatic growth development trajectories were identified among gastric cancer survivors: stable high of PTG group (20.6%), fluctuation of PTG group (44.4%), persistent low of PTG group (35.0%). The decision tree model showed anxiety, coping style, and psychological resilience-which was the primary predictor-might be used to predict the PTG trajectory subtypes of gastric cancer survivors. Conclusions: There was considerable variability in the experience of post-traumatic growth among gastric cancer survivors. Recognition of high-risk gastric cancer survivors who fall into the fluctuation or persistent low of PTG group and provision of psychological resilience-centered support might allow medical professionals to improve patients' post-traumatic growth and mitigate the impact of negative outcomes.

Abstract:The purpose of this study is to investigate the current state of post-traumatic growth (PTG) and identify its influencing factors in discharged COVID-19 patients. PTG refers to individual experiences of significant positive change arising from the struggle with a major life crisis. This descriptive cross-sectional study used the convenient sampling method to recruit 140 discharged COVID-19 patients in Hunan, China. The results show that the PTG of the discharged COVID-19 patients was positively correlated with self-esteem, post-traumatic stress disorder, coping style tendency, and social support, but negatively correlated with the time from onset to diagnosis. Our findings could provide guidance on improving the psychological state and well-being of discharged COVID-19 patients.

The influence of mindfulness on posttraumatic growth of Chinese people with cancer

Abstract:We examined the relationship between mindfulness and posttraumatic growth (PTG) of a group of 315 Chinese adults who had been diagnosed with cancer. We proposed self-compassion and cognitive reappraisal as mediators between mindfulness and PTG. Participants completed the Mindful Attention Awareness Scale, Self-Compassion Scale, Emotion Regulation Questionnaires, and the Posttraumatic Growth Inventory. Analysis revealed significant positive correlations among mindfulness, self-compassion, cognitive reappraisal, and PTG. Mindfulness played a positive role in improving PTG of people with cancer, and self-compassion and cognitive reappraisal played mediating roles in the relationship between mindfulness and PTG. This finding may help to further understand the mechanism of PTG and suggests that, as mindfulness promotes self-compassion and cognitive reappraisal, which are both important for PTG of people with cancer, future interventions should integrate into their treatment training to improve levels of mindfulness.

Prevalence and influencing factors of posttraumatic growth among nurses suffering from workplace violence: A cross-sectional study

Abstract:The purpose of this study was to (i) identify the level of posttraumatic growth among nurses suffering from workplace violence, (ii) clarify the relationship between nurses' posttraumatic growth and compassion satisfaction, burnout, secondary traumatic stress, and (iii) determine the influencing factors for posttraumatic growth among nurses suffering from workplace violence. A cross-sectional study was conducted to investigate 726 nurses suffering from workplace violence in 10 tertiary hospitals by using demographic, work-related information, lifestyle questionnaire, simplified Chinese version of the Posttraumatic Growth Inventory, and professional quality of life scale. In the findings, (i) the participants' posttraumatic growth scores were 57.29 ± 21.56, while the compassion satisfaction, burnout, and secondary traumatic stress scores were 32.82 ± 6.80, 27.17 ± 5.53, and 26.67 ± 5.29, respectively, (ii) posttraumatic growth was positively correlated with compassion satisfaction and secondary traumatic stress, and negatively correlated with burnout, and (iii) compassion satisfaction, sleep hours per day, department, scheduling, alcohol, secondary traumatic stress, children, and work hours per day were influencing factors of posttraumatic growth, which explained 36.3% of the total variance. Our study indicates that Chinese nurses may experience moderate levels of compassionate satisfaction, burnout, secondary traumatic stress, and low levels of posttraumatic growth after suffering from workplace violence, while the posttraumatic growth of nurses suffering from workplace violence is more affected by work-related variables and lifestyle-related variables, but less affected by other sociodemographic variables. Therefore, it is necessary to strengthen the psychological evaluation of nurses and adopt targeted strategies to promote nurses' posttraumatic growth.
Post‐traumatic Growth and Related Factors among 1221 Chinese Cancer Survivors

Abstract:Objective There is an increasing number of studies on the post-traumatic growth (PTG) of cancer survivors worldwide. However, few Chinese studies have reported about PTG in cancer survivors because of the underdevelopment of community health services. This study aimed to evaluate the level of PTG in China and explore related factors among a large sample of survivors of more than 12 cancer types. Methods We recruited 1236 survivors from 14 sites of the Beijing Cancer Rehabilitation Association. Survivors completed standardized questionnaires assessing PTG, social support, coping styles, demographic characteristics, and clinical conditions. Multivariate linear regression was used to evaluate potential predictive factors of PTG. Results A total of 1221 (98.7%) subjects completed the questionnaires. The average PTG score was 61.15 +/- 20.26. Seven variables were included in the final regression model: social support, coping style, time after treatment, exercise, BMI, work status, and economic income (P < .05). Survivors who had low levels of social support, had negative coping strategies, had a time after treatment of less than 5 years, exercised irregularly, had an abnormal BMI, were unemployed, or had low economic income had lower PTG levels. Conclusions PTG levels among Chinese cancer survivors are associated with social support, coping style, time after treatment, exercise, BMI, work status, and economic income. Strategies tailored to Chinese survivors should be developed to promote their PTG and improve their physical and psychological well-being.
Personal and work‐related factors associated with post‐traumatic growth in nurses: A mixed studies systematic review

Abstract:Introduction Nurses, assuming a wide range of clinical and patient care responsibilities in a healthcare team, are highly susceptible to direct and indirect exposure to traumatic experiences. However, literature has shown that nurses with certain traits developed a new sense of personal strength in the face of adversity, known as post‐traumatic growth (PTG). This review aimed to synthesize the best available evidence to evaluate personal and work‐related factors associated with PTG among nurses. Design Mixed studies systematic review. Methods Studies examining factors influencing PTG on certified nurses from all healthcare facilities were included. Published and unpublished studies were identified by searching 12 databases from their inception until 4th February 2023. Two reviewers independently screened, appraised, piloted a data collection form, and extracted relevant data. Meta‐summary, meta‐synthesis, meta‐analysis, as well as subgroup and sensitivity analyses were performed. Integration of results followed result‐based convergent design. Results A total of 98 studies with 29,706 nurses from 18 countries were included. These included 49 quantitative, 42 qualitative, and seven mixed‐methods studies. Forty‐six influencing factors were meta‐analyzed, whereas nine facilitating factors were meta‐summarized. A PTG conceptual map was created. Four constructs emerged from the integration synthesis: (a) personal system, (b) work‐related system, (c) event‐related factors, and (d) cognitive transformation. Conclusion The review findings highlighted areas healthcare organizations could do to facilitate PTG in nurses. Practical implications include developing intervention programs based on PTG facilitators. Further research should examine the trend of PTG and its dynamic response to different nursing factors. Clinical Relevance Research on trauma‐focused therapies targeting nurses' mental health is lacking. Therefore, findings from this review could inform healthcare organizations on the PTG phenomenon and developing support measures for nurses through healthcare policies and clinical practice.

Abstract:ObjectiveThe current longitudinal study aims to examine the bidirectional relationship between post-traumatic stress symptoms (PTSS) and post-traumatic growth (PTG).MethodOne hundred twenty-two adults in the most severely affected area were investigated by self-report questionnaires at 12 months and 18 months after the Wenchuan Earthquake occurred in China.ResultsThe autoregressive cross-lagged structure equation analysis revealed that PTG at 12 months post-earthquake could negatively predict PTSS at 18 months post-earthquake above and beyond PTSS stability, whereas PTSS at 12 months post-earthquake could not significantly predict subsequent PTG. Moreover, PTG at 12 months post-earthquake could predict fewer subsequent intrusions, numbing and hyper-arousal symptoms but not avoidance symptoms.ConclusionGrowth can play a role in reducing long-term post-traumatic stress symptoms, and the implication of a positive perspective in post-trauma circumstance is discussed.
Post-traumatic growth in oncological patients during the COVID-19 pandemic

Abstract:Background: Post-traumatic growth (PTG) is defined as "positive psychological change experienced as a result of the struggle with highly challenging life circumstances". Diagnosis of cancer leads to many psychological challenges. The recent pandemic forced oncological patients to face other multiple stressors. Resilience is a target of interest for PTG. The aim of this study is to analyze relationships between cancer trauma, COVID-19 pandemic stress, PTG and resilience over time. Participants and procedure: One hundred forty-six patients (124 females, 22 males) in active oncological treatment were enrolled from September 2020: 45.2% (n = 66) diagnosed with gynecological cancer, 23.3% (n = 34) with breast cancer, 15.1% (n = 22) with lung cancer, 16.5% (n = 24) with other cancers. We conducted a prospective longitudinal study on oncological patients evaluated at: diagnosis (T0), 6 (T1) and 12 months (T2) by means of the following self-administered tests: Distress Thermometer (DT), Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS), Impact of Event Scale Revised (IES-R), Post-traumatic Growth Inventory (PTGI), Perceived Stress Scale (PSS), Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale (CD-RISC). Results: DT decreased over time (T0 vs. T2, p < .001). HADS decreased from T0 to T2 (p < .001). The PTG subscales regarding new possibilities and appreciating life improved comparing T0 vs. T2 (p = .029; p = .013), as well as the total index of PTG (p = .027). The IES avoidance subscale score decreased over time (T0 vs. T1, p = .035). Conclusions: For some patients, the cancer experience is characterized not only by psychological distress but also by the presence and growth of positive aspects, such as the tendency to positively reconsider the value and importance of life, health and social relationships.

Abstract:Journal of Health Psychology, Ahead of Print. This cross-sectional study aimed to examine the subgroups of posttraumatic growth (PTG) among young and middle-aged cancer patients in China and to explore influencing factors. A total of 378 young and middle-aged cancer patients aged 18–60 were selected for the study at a hospital in Shanghai, China. Latent profile analysis identified four categories of PTG among young and middle-aged cancer patients: the "predicament group" (5.9%), the "struggle group" (36.8%), the "limited growth group" (44.1%) and the "remarkable growth group" (13.2%). Age, gender, time since diagnosis, cancer site, primary/recurrence, and meaning in life significantly influenced the distribution of PTG in young and middle-aged cancer patients. Targeted interventions should be developed to enhance the level of PTG among this population, considering the specific characteristics and influencing factors within each profile.

Posttraumatic Growth in Patients with Malignant Bone Tumor: Relationships with Psychological Adjustment

Abstract:Aim: Owing to the inadequate data to support the valid instrument for assessing the positive changes among patientswith malignant bone tumor, the present study was designed to provide such valid evidence through examining thepsychometric properties of a Chinese version of the Posttraumatic Growth Inventory (PTGI-C) among these patients,and to evaluate the effects of posttraumatic growth on positive and negative symptoms in malignant bone tumor patients.Methods: Potential patients with malignant bone tumor from five tertiary hospitals were admitted to the hospital duringthe period from January 2013 to October 2017. At the baseline assessment (T1), all patients completed a demographicform, PTGI-C, and Positive and Negative Affect Scale (PANAS). After 4 weeks later (T2), all the patients finishedPANAS and PTGI-C again, and the PTGI-C was re-administered to patients who were simple randomly selected fromthe total sample. Results: The PTGI-C exhibited moderate reliability and validity. The Cronbach’s α coefficient of thetotal scale was 0.91. Confirmatory factor analysis supported the five-factor model and the convergent validity resultsobtained were distinct but correlated. The multiple linear regression analyses showed that posttraumatic growth hada significant prediction on positive affect (F=16.445, p<0.001), accounting for 69.4 % of the variance and as well asthe negative affect (F=8.707, p<0.001), accounting for 48.3 % of the variance. Personal strength at T1 was positivelyassociated with positive affect at T2, and more personal strength and spiritual change at T1 were associated with lessnegative affect at T2. Conclusions: PTGI-C has demonstrated sufficient psychometric properties which indicate thatit is appropriate to measure posttraumatic growth in patients with malignant bone tumor. Relating to others, spiritualgrowth, personal strength and appreciate to life are important factors which contribute to predicting positive affectand negative affect.
