The Poetical Seeking and Expression of Local Context——Case Study on Baren Square Planning

Abstract:It has been a universal common cognition that design follows the local context. Whereas local context is multiple and variable, there is a problem that how to epurate them. This paper presents that we can use poeticalism to epurate local context, because poeticalism is the distinct characteristic of Chinese culture and the important mode of expression of Chinese culture. So the course of design has been also the course by poetical seeking and expressing of local context. In the design of Baren square in Bazhong city of Sichuan province, the poetical word of "the night-rain from Ba-mountain floods the autumn-pool" has been found from the three levels of local context and has been expressed with two way that "the performing of waterfall from autumn-pool" and "the city stage of human and deity". At last, the paper elucidates that poeticalism is not only a new method of innovative design, but also even more a unscrambling to the philosophy of "poetical dwelling" and a endeavor of rebuilding the speaking-right of Chinese culture in the field of design.
