Abstract:Dispersible ZnSe hollow microspheres with an average diameter of about 1.0μm have been successfully prepared by the ionic liquid-assisted complex-solvothermal method. The structure and morphology of the as-prepared ZnSe hollow microspheres were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscope (SEM), and transmission electron microscope (TEM). The results indicated that the ZnSe hollow microspheres had the zinc blende structure and were composed of ZnSe nanoparticles of about 18.8nm. Additionally, results from photoluminescence (PL) showed that the obtained product had two strong emission peaks centered at 425 and 440nm. The application of the ionic liquid 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium bromide ([Bmim]Br), which has high ionic conductivity and low surface tension, affected the morphologies of the products and allowed the reactions to be carried out under mild conditions. The growth mechanism of ZnSe hollow microspheres has been discussed.

Abstract:Zinc sulfide hollow microspheres were synthesized via a solvothermal route. The products were characterized by the X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and field-emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM) techniques. The results showed that the as-prepared ZnS hollow spheres have uniform size about 2–3 μm in diameter and have been formed through the aggregation of ZnS nanocrystals. The optical property of the products was also recorded by means of photoluminescence (PL) spectroscopy.

Abstract:This paper reports the synthesis of semiconductor ZnSe microspheres composed of nanoparticles via a solvothermal route between the organic molecule selenophene (C4H4 Se) and ZnCl2 without adding any surfactant. The ZnSe microspheres were characterized by x-ray diffraction (XRD), Raman spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), high resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM), specific surface area measurement, and photoluminescence (PL) spectra. A strong and broad blue PL emission at 443 nm in wavelength (similar to 2.79 eV in photon energy) is attributed to the near-band-edge (NBE) emission of ZnSe, while the 530 nm peak is a defect-related (DL) emission. The photocatalytic activity of the as-prepared ZnSe microspheres was evaluated by photodegradation of methyl orange (MO) dye under ultraviolet (UV) light and visible light irradiation. The degradations of MO reach 94% or 95.1%, close to 100%, in the presence of the as-synthesized ZnSe microspheres or commercial ZnSe powder after 7 or 10 h under UV irradiation, respectively. Meanwhile the degradations of MO reach 94.3% or 60.6% in the presence of the as-synthesized ZnSe microspheres or commercial ZnSe powder after 12 h, respectively. The degradation rate of ZnSe microspheres is twice that of ZnSe commercial powder under UV light irradiation, and three times under visible light irradiation. The degradation process of MO dye on ZnSe microspheres under UV or visible light is also discussed.

Abstract:ZnSe hollow nanospheres have been hydrothermally synthesized at 140 degrees C for 24 h starting from the precursor ZnCl2(N2H4)(2) and Na2SeO3 by using hydrazine hydrate (N2H4-H2O) as the reducing agent. The sample was characterized by XRD, ICP-AES, FE-SEM, and TEM. The BET surface area of the obtained ZnSe hollow nanospheres is 77.13 m(2) g(-1). Both the transverse optic (TO) and longitudinal optic (LO) phonon peaks in Raman spectra of the ZnSe product showed a obvious shift to lower frequency compared to bulk values; a blue-shift (similar to 10 nm) was observed in PL spectra. It appears that the hollow spheres might be formed by a soft-template of gas bubbles of N-2 produced during the reaction.

Abstract:The microspheres/nanosheets of the ZnSe were prepared by solvothermal route. The morphological, structural, optical, as well as photocatalytic properties of the ZnSe products were studied. SEM and TEM results showed that morphologies of the products were sensitive to the presence of water or not, and a mechanism was proposed. The products shows a weak blue emission band centered at 476 nm, which is attributed to the near-bandedge emission of the products, and the strong and broad peak at 520 nm is attributed to a defect-related emission. The PL and XRD results indicate that ZnSe microspheres have high crystalline and few defects compared with ZnSe nanosheets, the degradation for Rhodamine 6G shows that the photoactivity of ZnSe nanosheets is nearly twice that of ZnSe microspheres. Therefore, the decrease of defects implies the decrease of photocatalytic activity, and nanosheets is more suitable for the degradation of Rhodamine 6G.

Abstract:Monodisperse CdSe quantum dots were synthesized by TOPO assisted reaction in nonaqueous solution.The samples were characterized using transmission electron microscopy,X-ray powder diffraction,size distribution histograms,UV-vis absorption and photoluminescence spectra.The results indicate that the monodisperse quantum dots exhibit zinc blende(cubic)diffraction patterns and high PL quantum yield.Moreover,the mechanism of formation of zinc blende structure was preliminarily discussed.

Abstract:Semiconductor ZnSe quasi-nanospheres have been successfully prepared by the reaction between Zn2+ and Se2− under the induction of reverse micelles soft template. The products were characterized by X-ray diffraction, transmission electron microscopy and photoluminescence. XRD and TEM revealed that the products were spherical and homogeneous with cubic structure, which ranged from 200 nm to 300 nm in diameter. The corresponding photoluminescence peaks showed a red shift compared to bulk ZnSe. The possible formation mechanism was investigated.

Abstract:The multifunctional versatile ZnO/Zn2SiO4/SiO2 hollow microspheres with porous structures on the shells are successfully fabricated by the sequential deposition of amino-functionalized SiO2 and then ZnO layers on the prepared polystyrene (PS) colloidal templates, and the subsequent calcination process. The formation of hollow morphology was confirmed by scanning electron microscope (SEM) and transmission electron microscope (TEM). Nitrogen sorption measurements also verify the presence of the mesoporous structure scattered on the shells. The application of the absorption capacity to remove toxic metal ions in water is performed. Furthermore, the photoluminescence (PL) results indicate that hollow composites prepared in our experiment have excellent optical properties. The origin of various PL bands is discussed as well. The high surface areas, together with void interiors and mesoporous walls make composites an efficient adsorbent and promising platform for optoelectronics and nanomedicine applications.

Abstract:ZnS/PS microspheres were obtained through sonochemical treatment in an ethanol solution containing zinc acetate and thioacetamide. The composite particles were “optically hollow” due to the large refractive index contrast between the core and shell materials. Hollow ZnS spheres were formed by annealing the core-shell spheres in a muffle oven under the stream of 3:1 nitrogen and hydrogen gas at 600 °C.

Abstract:ZnS hollow nanospheres have been hydrothermally synthesized at 200°C for 4h. In same condition ZnS microspheres were obtained when using acrylamide as the surfactant. XRD pattern indicates as-prepared sample is cubic ZnS with cell constant a=5.391Å and the average size of ZnS particles was 6.5nm estimating from the Debye–Scherrer formula. TEM observed the hollow nanospheres have the diameters ranging from 200 to 300nm with a shell thickness of about 40nm. UV–vis and PL spectra recorded the optical properties of the sample, a blue-shift (∼19nm) was observed. It appears that the hollow spheres might be formed by soft-template of gas bubbles of SO2 produced during the reaction.

Abstract:With the use of elemental metals and selenium as resource materials, ZnSe and CdSe nanocrystals have been prepared through an aqueous method at temperature as low as 80°C in alkaline medium. The products were characterized by powder X-ray diffraction pattern (XRD), transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and X-ray photoelectron spectrum (XPS). Two kinds of chemical mechanisms for the formation of the products and the influence of experimental conditions are discussed.

Abstract:The successful synthesis of ZnS hollow microspheres by a solvothermal route is reported. The synthesis was achieved by a proper selection of a sulfur source, i.e., Na2S2O3⋅5H2O or (NH2)2CS, to react with Zn(CH3COO)2⋅2H2O in mixed solvents of ethylene glycol and deionized water. The ZnS products were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), and photoluminescence spectroscopy. XRD identified the ZnS products to have either zinc blende or wurtzite structure. SEM images revealed hollow ZnS microspheres with 1 to 2 μm diameters and 100 to 200 nm shell thicknesses. TEM images confirmed that the hollow ZnS microspheres were assembled by ZnS crystalline nanocrystallites. The room-temperature photoluminescence spectrum of the zinc blende hollow microspheres showed a strong green emission at 514 nm and weak emission at 379 nm.

Abstract:Mono-dispersed semiconductor ZnS hollow spheres with the diameter of 300-500 nm and the shell thickness of about 100-150 nm have been synthesized successfully by solvothermal method from ethanol solution in the presence of a special surfactant-quaternary ammonium salt of 2-undecyl-1-dithioureido-ethyl-imidazoline (SUDEI) made in our lab. The mono-dispersed ZnS hollow spheres are characterized by XRD, size distribution investment, UV-vis, TEM, and SEM, respectively. The UV-vis measurement indicates that there is a broad absorption at 210-280 nm, which is likely to be caused by "hollow-effect." A growth mechanism of ZnS hollow spheres has also been put forward and discussed.

Abstract:A facile chemical conversion method has been demonstrated to prepare various metal sulfide hollow microspheres. The present strategy utilizes the large difference in solubility between ZnS and other metal sulfides (Ag2S, PbS, CuS, Cu2S, Bi2S3, and Sb2S3) for the effective transformation and shows mild growth conditions and good reproducibility. The morphology, structure, and composition of the yielded hollow nanostructures have been confirmed by transmission electron microscopy, energy-dispersive X-ray analysis, and X-ray diffraction measurements. The optical properties of the metal sulfide hollow microspheres have been systematically investigated by absorption, micro-Raman, and photoluminescence spectroscopy. The results demonstrate that these metal sulfide hollow microspheres possess good optical quality with tunable band gaps and luminescence properties, which indicate their broad potential applications. This simple chemical conversion technique can be further extended to the synthesis of other semiconductors with various morphologies.

Abstract:Ionic liquids (ILs) have been gradually used to synthesize nanomaterials; however, it is rare that "tailoring" task-specific ILs to guide the synthesis pathway toward desirable nanostructures and morphologies. In this paper, a Se-containing ionic liquid 1-n-butyl-3-methylimidazolium methylselenite ([BMIm][SeO2(OCH3)]) was used as a new Se precursor to purposely prepare ZnSe hollow nanospheres with bubble templating through a facile one-pot hydrothermal method. The as-prepared ZnSe hollow nanospheres with good dispersity are relatively uniform with an average diameter of about 100 nm and a wall thickness range of 10-20 nm. More importantly, it was found that [BMIm][SeO2(OCH3)] not only serves as Se source but also acts as stabilizer for the ZnSe hollow nanospheres. In addition, the UV-vis spectrum of the products displayed adsorption maxima at 278 and 426 nm; therefore, the obtained ZnSe hollow nanospheres might have promising applications in blue emitters, catalysts, and gas sensors. It would be expected that [BMIm][SeO2(OCH3)] could be used to prepare other nanoscale metal selenides with special morphologies and improved properties on a large scale.

Abstract:Colloidal ZnSe quantum dots were synthesized by using cheap and low toxic zinc oxide (ZnO) in an organic solvent system of 1-hexadecylamine (HDA), lauric acid (LA) and tri-n-octylphosphine (TOP). The effects of HDA dosage and growth time on the microstructure and optical properties of ZnSe were studied by means of X-ray diffraction (XRD), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), spectrofluorometers and ultraviolet spectrophotometer, respectively. The results showed that ZnSe quantum dots with the best range of the size evolution were obtained under the condition of injection at 300 degrees C and growth at 260 degrees C by choosing the optimal parameters of ZnO:HDA:LA = 1:2.1:5.2 and 1 mol/L TOPSe. Its size became larger and the emission peak shifted obviously to red with the increasing of growth time. Meanwhile, the obtained ZnSe was of the wurtzite structure and had good uniformity. The fluorescence emission intensity and photochemical stability of ZnSe capping with ZnS layer was improved apparently, and the obtained ZnSe/ZnS QDs also had the good uniformity and monodispersity.

Abstract:A convenient chemical conversion method that allows the direct preparation of nanocrystalline ZnE (E = 0, S, Se) semiconductor spheres and hollow spheres as well as their core/shell structures is reported. By using monodisperse ZnO nanospheres as a starting reactant and in situ template, ZnS, ZnSe solid and hollow nanospheres, and ZnC/ZnS and ZnO/ZnSe core/shell nanostructures have been obtained through an ultrasound-assisted solution-phase conversion process. The formation mechanism of these nanocrystals is connected with the sonochernical effect of ultrasound irradiation. The photoluminescence and electrogenerated chemiluminescence properties of the as-prepared nanocrystals were investigated.

Abstract:We report the growth and structural properties of hollow-opened ZnO/Zn and solid Zn/ZnO single crystal microspheres on a silicon (111) substrate. The microspheres were synthesized from ZnO mixed with Zn by chemical vapour deposition. The ZnO/Zn microspheres exhibit a hollow interior and a spherical shell with a partly opened mouth along the c-axis of the hexagonal wurtzite ZnO structure oriented vertically to the substrate. The Zn/ZnO microspheres are solid. The microsphere growth process includes the deposition of Zn and ZnO particles followed by the evaporation of Zn from the breaking shell of the ZnO microparticles. The break in the shell is caused by the evaporation of Zn. The morphologies, chemical composition and crystal structure of the microspheres were characterized using x-ray diffraction, energy dispersive x-ray spectroscopy, field-emission scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy and high-resolution transmission electron microscopy. The room-temperature photoluminescence spectra were investigated using a 325 nm He-Cd laser as the excitation source.
