Abstract:Koebe's conjecture asserts that every domain in the Riemann sphere is conformally equivalent to a circle domain. We prove that every domain $\Omega$ satisfying Koebe's conjecture admits an $\textit{exhaustion}$, i.e., a sequence of interior approximations by finitely connected domains, so that the associated conformal maps onto finitely connected circle domains converge to a conformal map $f$ from $\Omega$ onto a circle domain. Thus, if Koebe's conjecture is true, it can be proved by utilizing interior approximations of a domain. The main ingredient in the proof is the construction of $\textit{quasiround}$ exhaustions of a given circle domain $\Omega$. In the case of such exhaustions, if $\partial \Omega$ has area zero then $f$ is a Möbius transformation.

Abstract:We study C^2 weakly order preserving circle maps with a flat interval. In particular we are interested in the geometry of the mapping near to the singularities at the boundary of the flat interval. Without any assumption on the rotation number we show that the geometry is degenerate when the degree of the singularities is less than or equal to two and becomes bounded when the degree goes to three. As an example of application, the result is applied to study Cherry flows.

Abstract:The problem on estimate of the Koebe radius for univalent harmonic mappings of the unit disk $\mathbb D=\{z\in\mathbb C : |z|<1\}$ is considered. For a subclass of harmonic mappings with the standard normalization and a certain growth estimate for analytic dilatation, we provide new estimate for the Koebe radius. New estimate for Taylor coefficients of the holomorphic part of a function from the subclass under consideration is obtained as a corollary.

Abstract:To provide a Kolmogorov-type condition for characterizing a best approximation in a continuous complex-valued function space, it is usually assumed that the family of closed convex sets in the complex plane used to restrict the range satisfies a strong interior-point condition, and this excludes the interesting case when some t is a line-segment or a singleton. The main aim of the present paper is to remove this restriction by virtue of a study of the notion of the strong CHIP for an infinite system of closed convex sets in a continuous complex-valued function space.

Abstract:Koebe uniformization is a fundemental problem in complex analysis. In this paper, we use transboundary extremal length to show that every nondegenerate and uncountably connected domain with bounded gap-ratio is conformally homeomorphic to a circle domain.

Abstract:We extend our family rigidity and vanishing theorems in [LiuMaZ] to the Spin c case.In particular, we prove a ^-theory version of the main results of [H], [Liul, Theorem B] for a family of almost complex manifolds.0. Introduction.Let M, B be two compact smooth manifolds, and TT : M -» B be a smooth fibration with compact fibre X.Let TX be the relative tangent bundle.Assume that a compact Lie group G acts fiberwise on M, that is, the action preserves each fiber of TT.Let P be a family of G-equivariant elliptic operators along the fiber X.Then the family index of P, Ind(P), is a well-defined element in K(B) (cf.[AS]) and is a virtual G-representation (cf.[LiuMal]).We denote by (Ind(P)) G £ K(B) the G-invariant part of Ind(P).A family of elliptic operator P is said to be rigid on the equivariant Chern character level with respect to this G-action, if the equivariant Chern character ch 5 (Ind(P)) G H*(B) is independent of g G G. Kippenhahn's construction revisited

Abstract:Kippenhahn discovered that the numerical range of a complex square matrix is the convex hull of a plane real algebraic curve. Here, we present an example of a convex set, which has a similar algebraic description as the numerical range, whereas the analogue of Kippenhahn's construction fails regarding isolated, singular points of the curve. This example prompted us to carefully review Kippenhahn's assertion and to highlight aspects of a complete proof that was achieved with methods of convex geometry and real algebraic geometry.

Abstract:We study mappings that satisfy the inverse modulus inequality of Poletsky type in a fixed domain. It is shown that, under some additional restrictions, the image of a ball under such mappings contains a fixed ball uniformly over the class. This statement can be interpreted as the well-known analogue of Koebe's theorem for analytic functions. As an application of the obtained result, we show that, if a sequence of mappings belonging to the specified class converges locally uniformly, then the limit mapping is open.

Abstract:The classical Morse-Sard theorem claims that for a mapping v : R-n -> Rm+1 of class C-k the measure of critical values v(Z(v,m)) is zero under condition k >= n - m. Here the critical set, or m-critical set is defined as Z(v,m) = {x is an element of R-n : rank del v(x) <= m}. Further Dubovitskii in 1957 and independently Federer and Dubovitskii in 1967 found some elegant extensions of this theorem to the case of other (e.g., lower) smoothness assumptions. They also established the sharpness of their results within the C-k category. Here we formulate and prove a bridge theorem that includes all the above results as particular cases: namely, if a function v : R-n -> R-d belongs to the Holder class C-k,C-alpha, 0 <= alpha < 1, then for every q> m the identity H-mu (Z(v,m) boolean AND v(-1) (y)) = 0 holds for H-q-almost all y is an element of R-d, where mu = n - m - (k + alpha) (q - m). Intuitively, the sense of this bridge theorem is very close to Heisenberg's uncertainty principle in theoretical physics: the more precise is the information we receive on measure of the image of the critical set, the less precisely the preimages are described, and vice versa. The result is new even for the classical C-k-case (when alpha = 0); similar result is established for the Sobolev classes of mappings W-p(k)(R-n,R-d) with minimal integrability assumptions p = max(1, n/k), i.e., it guarantees in general only the continuity (not everywhere differentiability) of a mapping. However, using some N-properties for Sobolev mappings, established in our previous paper, we obtained that the sets of nondifferentiability points of Sobolev mappings are fortunately negligible in the above bridge theorem. We cover also the case of fractional Sobolev spaces. The proofs of the most results are based on our previous joint papers with J. Bourgain and J. Kristensen (2013, 2015). We also crucially use very deep Y. Yomdin's entropy estimates of near critical values for polynomials (based on algebraic geometry tools). (C) 2020 Elsevier Masson SAS. All rights reserved.

Abstract:We linearize the inverse branches of the iterates of holomorphic endomorphisms of CP(k) and thus overcome the lack of Koebe distortion theorem in this setting when k $\ge$ 2. We review several applications of this result in holomorphic dynamics.

Abstract:We study a certain class circle maps which are constant on one interval (called flat piece), and such that the degrees of the singularities at the boundary of the flat piece are different. In this paper, we show that if the topological conjugacy between two maps of my class is a bi-Lipschitz homeomorphism, then it is a $C^1$ diffeomorphism; that is, the bi-Lipschitz homeomorphism class and $C^1$ diffeomorphism class of a map in our class are equivalent.

Abstract:Given a natural number k and an orientable surface S of finite type, define the k-curve graph to be the graph with vertices corresponding to isotopy classes of essential simple closed curves on S and with edges corresponding to pairs of such curves admitting representatives that intersect at most k times. We prove that the automorphism group of the k-curve graph of a surface S is isomorphic to the extended mapping class group for all k sufficiently small with respect to the Euler characteristic of S. We prove the same result for the so-called systolic complex, a variant of the curve graph whose complete subgraphs encode the intersection patterns for any collection of systoles with respect to a hyperbolic metric. This resolves a conjecture of Schmutz Schaller.

Abstract:In this paper we develop an analogue of the Berkovich analytification for non-necessarily algebraic complex spaces. We apply this theory to generalize to arbitrary compact Kähler manifolds a result of Chi Li, proving that a stronger version of K-stability implies the existence of a unique constant scalar curvature Kähler metric.

Interval maps mimicking circle rotations

Abstract:We investigate the dynamics of maps of the real line whose behavior on an invariant interval is close to a rational rotation on the circle. We concentrate on a specific two-parameter family, describing the dynamics arising from models in game theory, mathematical biology and machine learning. If one parameter is a rational number, $k/n$, with $k,n$ coprime, and the second one is large enough, we prove that there is a periodic orbit of period $n$. It behaves like an orbit of the circle rotation by an angle $2\pi k/n$ and attracts trajectories of Lebesgue almost all starting points. We also discover numerically other interesting phenomena. While we do not give rigorous proofs for them, we provide convincing explanations.

$K$-theory of rings of continuous functions

Abstract:We study the algebraic $K$-theory of the ring of continuous functions on a compact Hausdorff space with values in a local division ring, e.g., a local field: We compute its negative $K$-theory and show its $K$-regularity. The complex case reproves the results of Rosenberg, Friedlander--Walker, and Cortiñas--Thom. Our consideration in the real case proves two previously unconfirmed claims made by Rosenberg in 1990. The algebraic nature of our methods enables us to deal with the nonarchimedean and noncommutative cases analogously.

On regular but non-smooth integral curves

Abstract:Let $C$ be a regular geometrically integral curve over an imperfect field $K$ and assume that it admits a non-smooth point $\mathfrak{p}$ which -- seen as a prime of the separable function field $K(C)|K$ -- is non-decomposed in the base field extension $\overline{K} \otimes_K K(C)|\overline{K}$. In this paper we establish a bound for the number of iterated Frobenius pullbacks needed in order to transform $\mathfrak{p}$ into a rational point. This provides an algorithm to compute geometric $\delta$-invariants of non-smooth points and a procedure to construct fibrations with moving singularities of prescribed $\delta$-invariants. We show that the bound is sharp in characteristic 2. We further study the geometry of a pencil of plane projective rational quartics in characteristic 2 whose generic fibre attains our bound. On our way, we prove several results on separable and non-decomposed points that might be of independent interest.

Abstract:We derive a concavity inequality for $k$-Hessian operators under the semi-convexity condition. As an application, we establish interior estimates for semi-convex solutions of the $k$-Hessian equations with vanishing Dirichlet boundary and obtain a Liouville-type result. Additionally, we provide new and simple proofs of Guan-Ren-Wang's results on global curvature estimates for $k$-curvature equations.
