Abstract:Koebe uniformization is a fundemental problem in complex analysis. In this paper, we use transboundary extremal length to show that every nondegenerate and uncountably connected domain with bounded gap-ratio is conformally homeomorphic to a circle domain.

Abstract:This paper works on the structure of infinitely connected Fatou damains of rational maps in terms of Koebe uniformization. Due to the complicated boundary behavior, the existing uniformization results are failed to apply in general. We proved that if the rational map is geometrically finite, then its infinitely connected attracting Fatou damain is conformally homeomorphic to a circle domain.

Abstract:We first show that for a bounded pseudoconvex domain with a manifold quotient of finite-volume in the sense of Kahler-Einstein measure, the identity component of the automorphism group of this domain is semi-simple without compact factors. This partially answers an open question in [Fra95]. Then we apply this result in different settings to solve several open problems, for examples, (1). We prove that the automorphism group of the Griffiths domain [Gri71] in ℂ^2 is discrete. This gives a complete answer to an open question raised four decades ago. (2). We show that for a contractible HHR/USq complex manifold D with a finite-volume manifold quotient M, if D contains a one-parameter group of holomorphic automorphisms and the fundamental group of M is irreducible, then D is biholomorphic to a bounded symmetric domain. This theorem can be viewed as a finite-volume version of Nadel-Frankel's solution for the Kahzdan conjecture, which has been open for years. (3). We show that for a bounded convex domain D⊂ℂ^n of C^2-smooth boundary, if D has a finite-volume manifold quotient with an irreducible fundamental group, then D is biholomorphic to the unit ball in ℂ^n, which partially solves an old conjecture of Yau. For (2) and (3) above, if the complex dimension is equal to 2, more refined results will be provided.
Uniformization of Gromov hyperbolic domains by circle domains

Abstract:We prove that a domain in the Riemann sphere is Gromov hyperbolic if and only if it is conformally equivalent to a uniform circle domain. This resolves a conjecture of Bonk--Heinonen--Koskela and also verifies Koebe's conjecture (Kreisnormierungsproblem) for the class of Gromov hyperbolic domains. Moreover, the uniformizing conformal map from a Gromov hyperbolic domain onto a circle domain is unique up to Möbius transformations. We also undertake a careful study of the geometry of inner uniform domains in the plane and prove the above uniformization and rigidity results for such domains.

Abstract:Koebe's conjecture asserts that every domain in the Riemann sphere is conformally equivalent to a circle domain. We prove that every domain $\Omega$ satisfying Koebe's conjecture admits an $\textit{exhaustion}$, i.e., a sequence of interior approximations by finitely connected domains, so that the associated conformal maps onto finitely connected circle domains converge to a conformal map $f$ from $\Omega$ onto a circle domain. Thus, if Koebe's conjecture is true, it can be proved by utilizing interior approximations of a domain. The main ingredient in the proof is the construction of $\textit{quasiround}$ exhaustions of a given circle domain $\Omega$. In the case of such exhaustions, if $\partial \Omega$ has area zero then $f$ is a Möbius transformation.

Abstract:Given a complex-projective klt pair $(X, \Delta)$ with standard coefficients and such that $K_X + \Delta$ is ample, we determine necessary and sufficient conditions for the pair $(X, \Delta)$ to be uniformized by a bounded symmetric domain. As an application, we obtain characterizations of orbifold quotients of the polydisc and of the four classical irreducible bounded symmetric domains in terms of Miyaoka-Yau-type Chern equalities.

Abstract:Surface parameterization refers to the process of mapping the surface to canonical planar domains, which plays crucial roles in texture mapping and shape analysis purposes. Most existing techniques focus on simply connected surfaces. It is a challenging problem for multiply connected genus zero surfaces. This work generalizes conventional Koebe's method for multiply connected planar domains. According to Koebe's uniformization theory, all genus zero multiply connected surfaces can be mapped to a planar disk with multiply circular holes. Furthermore, this kind of mappings are angle preserving and differ by Möbius transformations. We introduce a practical algorithm to explicitly construct such a circular conformal mapping. Our algorithm pipeline is as follows: suppose the input surface has n boundaries, first we choose 2 boundaries, and fill the other n -- 2 boundaries to get a topological annulus; then we apply discrete Yamabe flow method to conformally map the topological annulus to a planar annulus; then we remove the filled patches to get a planar multiply connected domain. We repeat this step for the planar domain iteratively. The two chosen boundaries differ from step to step. The iterative construction leads to the desired conformal mapping, such that all the boundaries are mapped to circles. In theory, this method converges quadratically faster than conventional Koebe's method. We give theoretic proof and estimation for the converging rate. In practice, it is much more robust and efficient than conventional non-linear methods based on curvature flow. Experimental results demonstrate the robustness and efficiency of the method.
Conformal Uniformization of domains bounded by quasitripods

Abstract:We extend {Schramm's cofat uniformization theorem} to domains satisfying conditions involving {quasitripods}, i.e., quasisymmetric images of the standard tripod. If the non-point complementary components of domain $\Omega \subset \hat{\mathbb{C}}$ contain uniform quasitripods with large diameters and satisfy a {packing condition}, then there exists a conformal map $f\colon\Omega \to D$ onto a circle domain $D$. Moreover, $f$ preserves the classes of point-components and non-point components. The packing condition is satisfied if $\Omega$ is {cospread}, i.e., if the complementary components contain uniform quasitripods in all scales.

Abstract:As is well-known, there exist nonconstant holomorphic maps from the plane into the Riemann sphere $\PP^1$ minus two points, the simplest example of which is an explicit realization of the uniformization map given by applying the exponential map and then composing with a Mobius transformation taking 0 and $\infty$ to the two given punctures. Likewise, we can map the plane into the sphere minus one point by simply applying directly a Mobius transformation taking $\infty$ to this puncture. In this paper we prove two parametrized versions of this uniformization result using different methods. We first present a slightly easier version using complex analysis, which allows us to construct the uniformizing maps more or less explicitly in terms of the initial coordinates given. Then we give the more general and coordinate invariant version, which we prove by extending Kodaira's theory of the Jacobian fibration to a family of singular curves constructed via algebraic geometry. Finally, using the results obtained with the Jacobian fibration, we obtain two equivalent conditions for an complex surface nonhyperbolically fibered over a complex curve to be holomorphically dominable by $\CC^2$. In theorem \ref{thm:surf} we show that this dominability is equivalent to the apparently weaker condition of the existence of a Zariski dense image of $\CC$ and equivalent to the quasiprojectivity of the base curve together with the nonnegativity of the orbifold Euler characteristic.

Abstract:We establish various analogs of the Kronecker-Weyl equidistribution theorem that can be considered higher-dimensional versions of results established in our earlier investigation of the discrete 2-circle problem studied in 1969 by Veech. Whereas the Veech problem can be viewed as one of geodesic flow on a 2-dimensional flat surface, here we study geodesic flow in higher-dimensional flat manifolds. This is more challenging, as the overwhelming majority of the available proof techniques for non-integrable flat systems are based on arguments in dimension 2. For higher dimensions, we need a new approach.

Abstract:This paper focuses on Gromov hyperbolic characterizations of unbounded uniform domains. Let be an unbounded domain. We prove that the following conditions are quantitatively equivalent: (1) G is uniform; (2) G is Gromov hyperbolic with respect to the quasihyperbolic metric and linearly locally connected; (3) G is Gromov hyperbolic with respect to the quasihyperbolic metric and there exists a naturally quasisymmetric correspondence between its Euclidean boundary and the punctured Gromov boundary equipped with a Hamenstädt metric (defined by using a Busemann function). As an application, we investigate the boundary quasisymmetric extensions of quasiconformal mappings, and of more generally rough quasi-isometries between unbounded domains with respect to the quasihyperbolic metrics.

Abstract:The classical uniformization theorem of Poincare and Koebe states that any simply connected surface with a Riemannian metric is conformally dilleomorphic to the Riemann sphere, or the complex plane or the unit disk. Using the work by Gu-Luo-Sun-Wu [9] on discrete conformal geometry for polyhedral surfaces, we show that the uniformization maps for simply connected Riemann surfaces are computable.

Abstract:Uniformization theory of Gromov hypebolic spaces investigated by Bonk, Heinonen and Koskela, generalizes the case where a classical Poincaré ball type model is used as the starting point. In this paper, we develop this approach in the case where the underlying domain is unbounded, corresponding to the classical Poincaré half-space model. More precisely, we study conformal densities via Busemann functions on Gromov hyperbolic spaces and prove that the deformed spaces are unbounded uniform spaces. Furthermore, we show that there is a one-to-one correspondence between the bilipschitz classes of proper geodesic Gromov hyperbolic spaces that are roughly starlike with respect to a point on Gromov boundary and the quasisimilarity classes of unbounded locally compact uniform spaces. Our result can be understood as an unbounded counterpart of the main result of Bonk, Heinonen, and Koskela in "Uniformizing Gromov Hyperbolic Spaces", Astérisque 270 (2001).

Abstract:The problem on estimate of the Koebe radius for univalent harmonic mappings of the unit disk $\mathbb D=\{z\in\mathbb C : |z|<1\}$ is considered. For a subclass of harmonic mappings with the standard normalization and a certain growth estimate for analytic dilatation, we provide new estimate for the Koebe radius. New estimate for Taylor coefficients of the holomorphic part of a function from the subclass under consideration is obtained as a corollary.

Abstract:We show convergence of small eigenvalues for geometrically finite hyperbolic $n$-manifolds under strong limits. For a class of convergent convex sets in a strongly convergent sequence of Kleinian groups, we use the spectral gap of the limit manifold and the exponentially mixing property of the geodesic flow along the strongly convergent sequence to find asymptotically uniform counting formulas for the number of orthogeodesics between the convex sets. In particular, this provides asymptotically uniform counting formulas (with respect to length) for orthogeodesics between converging Margulis tubes, geodesic loops based at converging basepoints, and primitive closed geodesics.

Abstract:In this article we show that a bounded domain is a domain of holomorphy if and only if it carries a complete Kähler-Einstein metric with negative Ricci curvature. The completeness theorem is generalized to a variety of subdomains on Kähler manifolds with curvature conditions.
