Abstract:This paper investigate several kinds of fuzzy spatial relations.As for a generalization of crisp RCC8 topological relations,This paper give characterizations of fuzzy RCC8 topological relations for R-regular open fuzzy sets,R-regular closed fuzzy sets,R-open fuzzy sets and R-closed fuzzy sets respectively.The results are useful for qualitative fuzzy spatial reasoning.

Abstract:Many authors discussed the interpolation mechanism of fuzzy logic system applied in control. The input and output of fuzzy control system are always restrained in (fuzzy) numbers-associated with fuzzification and defuzzification procedure. In artificial intelligence area we need use common fuzzy sets to represent vague and fuzzy concept. In this paper, we propose a "local relation mapping" theory, which is a corresponding result of interpolation mechanism of fuzzy logical system without fuzzification and defuzzification. This local relation mapping property holds in Mamdani algorithm (Max-Min fuzzy reasoning model). We find that each CRI fuzzy reasoning method based on the multi-valued logic implication operator has an approximate Mamdani algorithm. The fuzzy relation matrix of CRI fuzzy inference method based on the multivalued logic implication operator has an enveloping surface of Mamdani algorithm. So most CRI fuzzy reasoning methods have local relation mapping property approximately

Abstract:Rough model is proposed to model vague geographic objects based on the definition of rough regions, lower approximation regions, upper approximation regions and boundary regions. With the combination of rough model and RCC-D-8, which is a discrete version of RCC extended into two-dimensional discrete space (ℤ2), 599 topological relations are got between simple vague geographic objects in raster regions described by intersection and containing matrix.

Abstract:Rough model is proposed to build vague regions based on rough sets theory after defining rough regions and rough model. Rough regions are classified into three types for study. Based on the studies of neighborhood of RCC-D-8 and the constraints of lower and upper approximate regions, 599 topological relations are obtained between simple vague regions in raster regions and described by the 4 × 4 intersection and inclusion matrix.

Abstract:Topological relations between spatial objects have played important roles in spatial representing and reasoning. Various models for expressing topological relations have been put forward. The Region Connection Calculus (RCC) and 9-Intersection Method (9IM) are most well-known topological formalisms, but neither of them can characterize the characteristic of topological relations between convex regions. In this paper, we introduce a new model for representing topological relations between two convex plane regions, which characterized with the topological properties of details of region A and B. Applying our model to triangles, we obtain a complete classification of topological relations which called RCC32. By calculating the cost of transforming one relation into another, the closest topological relation graph of RCC32 is given. © 2011 IEEE.

Abstract:Fuzziness is an internal property of spatial objects. How to model fuzziness of a spatial object is a main task of next generation GIS. This paper proposes basic fuzzy spatial object types based on fuzzy topology. These object types are the natural extension of current non-fuzzy spatial object types. A fuzzy cell complex structure is defined for modeling fuzzy regions, lines and points. Furthermore, fuzzy topological relations between these fuzzy spatial objects are formalized based on the 9-intersection approach. This model can be implemented for GIS applications due to its scientific theory basis.

Abstract:The unified fuzzy 9-intersection model of topological relations can describe the uncertainty of topological relations introduced by the uncertainty of spatial data. In this article, first, the raster algorithm for computing fuzzy 9-intersection model is presented, and the vector algorithms for computing fuzzy 9-intersection model of point/point, point/line, point/region, line/line, line/region, region/region topological relations are also provided. Second, based on the software developed by us, the examples for computing fuzzy 9-intersection matrix between two crisp objects, between two fuzzy objects and between a crisp object and a fuzzy object are listed. The results and analysis show that the unified fuzzy 9-intersection model is effective to describe the uncertainty of topological relations.

Abstract:First, the impacts of uncertainty of position and attribute on topological relations and the disadvantages of qualitative methods in processing the uncertainty of topological relations are concluded. Second, based on the above point, the fuzzy membership functions for dividing topology space of spatial object and for describing uncertainty of topological relations are proposed. Finally, the fuzzy interior, exterior and boundary are defined according to those fuzzy membership functions, and then a fuzzy 9-intersection model that can describe the uncertainty is constructed. Since fuzzy 9-intersection model is based on fuzzy set, not two-value logic, the fuzzy 9-intersection model can describe the impacts of position and attribute of spatial data on topological relations, and the uncertainty of topological relations between fuzzy objects, relations between crisp objects and fuzzy objects, and relations between crisp objects in a united model.

Abstract:Uncertain regions can be represented as having broad boundaries (BBRs) and their topological relations can be modeled by the extended 9-intersection. In order to satisfy the need for querying, managing, and processing BBRs, this study presents a 4-tuple representation of topological relations between BBRs, and a method in which the relations between simple regions with broad boundaries (SBBRs) are used to infer new topological information. The 4-tuple representation can distinguish the same topological relations as identified by the extended 9-intersection. Since the 4-tuple uses combinations of the basic topological relations between crisp regions to describe the relations between uncertain regions, the reasoning of topological relations between SBBRs can be obtained by combining the results of those between crisp regions. The reasoning mechanism can be used in several applications, such as to evaluate the consistency of topological relations between uncertain regions in multi-resolution spatial databases and to assess the consistency of a complete or incomplete symbolic description of a spatial scene.

Abstract:Geographic objects usually change their locations, shape and characteristics over time. Change in one object can trigger a series of changes in the adjacent objects and their topological relationships. The spatio-temporal topological relations analysis of geographic objects is an important issue in the development of a more temporally aware geographical information science. Research on, and applications of spatial topology are mature, yet the methods to exploit spatio-temporal topology are still far from the reach of GIS users. Such research has probed the definition of time, and explored the formalization of spatio-temporal topology from different perspectives. However, almost all methods and representations are mathematical or logical methods represented in qualitative ways. Conformal geometric algebra (CGA) is a new tool for unified multidimensional representation and geometric computation, from a unified perspective of multidimensional space-time. In this research, we pursue a logic based on the concept of a unified representational model based on CGA for spatio-temporal objects and their spatio-temporal topological relations formally expressed by a multi-branch decision tree, which is not only qualitative but also quantitative. The research provides theoretical and methodological support for expressing and computing the spatio-temporal topological relations among any set of geographic objects. This ability effectively promotes the expression of spatio-temporal topological relationships and enhances the analytical capabilities of GIS for dealing with both space and time.
Relational reasoning in the region connection calculus

Abstract:This paper is mainly concerned with the relation-algebraical aspects of the well-known Region Connection Calculus (RCC). We show that the contact relation algebra (CRA) of certain RCC model is not atomic complete and hence infinite. So in general an extensional composition table for the RCC cannot be obtained by simply refining the RCC8 relations. After having shown that each RCC model is a consistent model of the RCC11 CT, we give an exhaustive investigation about extensional interpretation of the RCC11 CT. More important, we show the complemented closed disk algebra is a representation for the relation algebra determined by the RCC11 table. The domain of this algebra contains two classes of regions, the closed disks and closures of their complements in the real plane.

Abstract:This paper initiates the study of picture fuzzy topological spaces. In order to develop a mechanism to construct picture fuzzy topological spaces, we prove some basic results related to picture fuzzy sets together with the introduction of many new notions such as balanced and \r{ho}-equivalent relations on picture fuzzy sets. We also define the rank, picture fuzzy base and picture fuzzy sub-base of picture fuzzy topological spaces. With the help of these notions, we present a method to design picture fuzzy topological spaces, which is the main outcome of this work. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first serious attempt to study picture fuzzy topological spaces. It is hoped that, this study will provide a decent platform for further development of picture fuzzy topological spaces and their applications in decision making theory.

On Countable RCC Models

Abstract:Region Connection Calculus (RCC) is the most widely studied formalism of Qualitative Spatial Reasoning. It has been known for some time that each connected regular topological space provides an RCC model. These 'standard' models are inevitable uncountable and regions there cannot be represented finitely. This paper, however, draws researchers' attention to RCC models that can be constructed from finite models hierarchically. Compared with those 'standard' models, these countable models have the nice property that regions where can be constructed in finite steps from basic ones. We first investigate properties of three countable models introduced by Düuntsch, Stell, Li and Ying, resp. In particular, we show that (i) the contact relation algebra of our minimal model is not atomic complete; and (ii) these three models are non-isomorphic. Second, for each n0, we construct a countable RCC model that is a sub-model of the standard model over the Euclidean unit n-cube; and show that all these countable models are non-isomorphic. Third, we show that every finite model can be isomorphically embedded in any RCC model. This leads to a simple proof for the result that each consistent spatial network has a realization in any RCC model.

Abstract:Not only spatial objects but also direction relations have the fuzziness. Because conventional quantitative or qualitative methods describing direction relations can't describe fuzziness radically, they will lose information inevitably. In this article, based on the principle which regards the fuzziness as fuzziness rather than crispness, not only the fuzzy partition method and fuzzy membership functions of directions are proposed, but also provide fuzzy description method of direction relations and its fuzzy membership functions between fuzzy objects and crisp objects. In contrast with conventional methods, the method in this article has two advantages: first, a fuzzy partition of direction region allows overlaps between neighboring direction regions but crisp partition does not; second, it uniforms the methods describing direction relations between crisp object and fuzzy object.

Abstract:RCC*-9 is a mereotopological qualitative spatial calculus for simple lines and regions. RCC*-9 can be easily expressed in other existing models for topological relations and thus can be viewed as a candidate for being a "bridge" model among various approaches. In this paper, we present a revised and extended version of RCC*-9, which can handle non-simple geometric features, such as multipolygons, multipolylines, and multipoints, and 3D features, such as polyhedrons and lower-dimensional features embedded in R3. We also run experiments to compute RCC*-9 relations among very large random datasets of spatial features to demonstrate the JEPD properties of the calculus and also to compute the composition tables for spatial reasoning with the calculus.

Abstract:Spatial objects in a geographical information system are often vague. Fuzzy topology-based intersection methods were introduced to obtain the topological relation between such vague objects by considering the objects as fuzzy sets. The elements of the intersection matrices express the nature of the intersections between topological parts of the objects. In reality, it may only be possible to calculate some of the required intersections due to the unavailability of data. This paper introduces a method to construct a fuzzy 9-intersection matrix under incomplete observations. Further, it computes the possible fuzzy topological relation using a quantitative fuzzy 9-intersection method based on fuzzy similarity measure. Some special cases of the incomplete observations and fuzzy topological relation under such situations are discussed. Finally, few applications are presented, where the proposed method is used to obtain relation between two uncertain objects under the condition that the topological properties of the objects are partially known.

Abstract:Uncertain region can be represented by broad boundary region,and their topological relations can be described by expanded 9-intersection model.As the expanded 9-intersection model processes the influences of uncertain regions on topological relations by increasing the number of basic topological relations,the forty-four topological relations distinguished by the model not only exceeds the number recognized or often used by people far away,but also brings difficulties on the reasoning of topological relations between uncertain regions.Aiming at this shortcoming,in this paper a method combining four 4-intersection models is used to describe the topological relations,the method whose power of distinguishing topological relations is identical with expanded 9-intersection model.In addition,this method not only uses the combination of the 5 basic topological relations between certain regions to describe the 44 relations between uncertain regions,but also transforms the reasoning of 44 topological relations into the combination of 5 basic relations,which is helpful to implement the qualitative reasoning of topological relations between uncertain regions.

Abstract:The Region Connection Calculus (RCC) is one of the most widely referenced system of high-level (qualitative) spatial reasoning. RCC assumes a continuous representation of space. This contrasts sharply with the fact that spatial information obtained from physical recording devices is nowadays invariably digital in form and therefore implicitly uses a discrete representation of space. Recently, Galton developed a theory of discrete space that parallels RCC, but question still lies in that can we have a theory of qualitative spatial reasoning admitting models of discrete spaces as well as continuous spaces? In this paper we aim at establishing a formal theory which accommodates both discrete and continuous spatial information, and a generalization of Region Connection Calculus is introduced. GRCC, the new theory, takes two primitives: the mereological notion of part and the topological notion of connection. RCC and Galton's theory for discrete space are both extensions of GRCC. The relation between continuous models and discrete ones is also clarified by introducing some operations on models of GRCC. In particular, we propose a general approach for constructing countable RCC models as direct limits of collections of finite models. Compared with standard RCC models given rise from regular connected spaces, these countable models have the nice property that each region can be constructed in finite steps from basic regions. Two interesting countable RCC models are also given: one is a minimal RCC model, the other is a countable sub-model of the continuous space R^2.
