Abstract:It is significant for improving the power quality to detect and classify power system transient waveforms (TW) correctly, such as sags, surges. impulses and outages. Firstly some defects in the common research based on the wavelet transform (WT) are pointed out, such as the method only depending on the characteristics of signal WT to detect and estimate the TW, which is sensitive to the complexity of TW and noise. To overcome these deficiencies and avoid the inherent shortcomings of the traditional time-domain detection method, a novel measurement method is proposed, which takes advantage of the properties of the WT modulus local maximum to carry out the time-domain location. Especially the method can fix the same phase point with the initial singularity of a disturbed waveform (DW) in its adjacent undisturbed signal periods, then detect and classify the DW rightly via comparing the differences by point-to-point between the DW and the corresponding normal signal. Simulation results confirm the good performances of the method such as its robustness to the noise and complex environment.
