Abstract:This paper is concerned with the large deviation principle of the stochastic reaction-diffusion lattice systems defined on the N-dimensional integer set, where the nonlinear drift term is locally Lipschitz continuous with polynomial growth of any degree and the nonlinear diffusion term is locally Lipschitz continuous with linear growth. We first prove the convergence of the solutions of the controlled stochastic lattice systems, and then establish the large deviations by the weak convergence method based on the equivalence of the large deviation principle and the Laplace principle.

Abstract:In this article, we consider slow-fast McKean-Vlasov stochastic differential equations driven by Brownian motions and fractional Brownian motions. We give a definition of the large deviation principle (LDP) on the product space related to Brownian motion and fractional Brownian motion, which is different from the traditional definition for LDP. Under some proper assumptions on coefficients, LDP is investigated for this type of equations by using the weak convergence method.

Abstract:We study large deviations for random walks on stratified (Carnot) Lie groups. For such groups, there is a natural collection of vectors which generates their Lie algebra, and we consider random walks with increments in only these directions. Under certain constraints on the distribution of the increments, we prove a large deviation principle for these random walks with a natural rate function adapted to the sub-Riemannian geometry of these spaces.

Abstract:This work is concerned with the large deviation principle for a family of slow-fast systems perturbed by infinite-dimensional mixed fractional Brownian motion (FBM) with Hurst parameter $H\in(\frac12,1)$. We adopt the weak convergence method which is based on the variational representation formula for infinite-dimensional mixed FBM. To obtain the weak convergence of the controlled systems, we apply the Khasminskii's averaging principle and the time discretization technique. In addition, we drop the boundedness assumption of the drift coefficient of the slow component and the diffusion coefficient of the fast component.

Abstract:We obtain sample-path large deviations for a class of one-dimensional stochastic differential equations with bounded drifts and heavy-tailed Lévy processes. These heavy-tailed Lévy processes do not satisfy the exponential integrability condition, which is a common restriction on the Lévy processes in existing large deviations contents. We further prove that the solution processes satisfy a weak large deviation principle with a discrete rate function and logarithmic speed. We also show that they do not satisfy the full large deviation principle.

Abstract:We consider n-point sticky Brownian motions: a family of n diffusions that evolve as independent Brownian motions when they are apart, and interact locally so that the set of coincidence times has positive Lebesgue measure with positive probability. These diffusions can also be seen as n random motions in a random environment whose distribution is given by so-called stochastic flows of kernels. For a specific type of sticky interaction, we prove exact formulas characterizing the stochastic flow and show that in the large deviations regime, the random fluctuations of these stochastic flows are Tracy-Widom GUE distributed. An equivalent formulation of this result states that the extremal particle among n sticky Brownian motions has Tracy-Widom distributed fluctuations in the large n and large time limit. These results are proved by viewing sticky Brownian motions as a (previously known) limit of the exactly solvable beta random walk in random environment.

Abstract:In this paper we study process-level large deviations for spin-flip particle systems and more general Markov processes. We prove that a modification of a well known Donsker-Varadhan entropy function can be used to govern the large deviation lower bounds for any such process starting from a class of initial distributions related to an extremal invariant measure of the process. In some specific cases, we obtain the full large deviation principle.

Abstract:The work of Gantert, Kim, and Ramanan [Large deviations for random projections of $\ell^p$ balls, Ann. Probab. 45 (6B), 2017] has initiated and inspired a new direction of research in the asymptotic theory of geometric functional analysis. The moderate deviations perspective, describing the asymptotic behavior between the scale of a central limit theorem and a large deviations principle, was later added by Kabluchko, Prochno, and Thäle in [High-dimensional limit theorems for random vectors in $\ell_p^n$ balls. II, Commun. Contemp. Math. 23(3), 2021]. These two approaches nicely complement the classical study of central limit phenomena or non-asymptotic concentration bounds for high-dimensional random geometric quantities. Beyond studying large and moderate deviations principles for random geometric quantities that appear in geometric functional analysis, other ideas emerged from the theory of large deviations and the closely related field of statistical mechanics, and have provided new insight and become the origin for new developments. Within less than a decade, a variety of results have appeared and formed this direction of research. Recently, a connection to the famous Kannan-Lovász-Simonovits conjecture and the study of moderate and large deviations for isotropic log-concave random vectors was discovered. In this manuscript, we introduce the basic principles, survey the work that has been done, and aim to manifest this direction of research, at the same time making it more accessible to a wider community of researchers.

Abstract:The large deviations theory for heavy-tailed processes has seen significant advances in the recent past. In particular, Rhee et al. (2019) and Bazhba et al. (2020) established large deviation asymptotics at the sample-path level for Lévy processes and random walks with regularly varying and (heavy-tailed) Weibull-type increments. This leaves the lognormal case -- one of the three most prominent classes of heavy-tailed distributions, alongside regular variation and Weibull -- open. This article establishes the \emph{extended large deviation principle} (extended LDP) at the sample-path level for one-dimensional Lévy processes and random walks with lognormal-type increments. Building on these results, we also establish the extended LDPs for multi-dimensional processes with independent coordinates. We demonstrate the sharpness of these results by constructing counterexamples, thereby proving that our results cannot be strengthened to a standard LDP under $J_1$ topology and $M_1'$ topology.

Furthermore, we prove large deviations principles for the increments of such processes on intervals $[a,b]$ where $b-a$ is either less than the increment or twice the increment, assuming stationarity of the increments. Stochastic Processes and their Applications

Abstract:We use the continuity theorem of Lyons for rough paths in the p-variation topology to produce an elementary approach to the large deviation principle and the support theorem for diffusion processes. The proofs reduce to establish the corresponding results for Brownian motion itself as a rough path in the p-variation topology, 2 < p < 3, and the technical step is to handle the Levy area in this respect.
