Abstract:Objective To investigate the effects of administration of a preoperative dose of celecoxib for patients receiving suprapubic transvesical prostatectomy to assist patients controlled epidural analgesia(PCEA).Method Forty patients who received suprapubic transvesical prostatectomy were randomly divided into two groups(n=20).Oral dose of celecoxib 200 mg(group C)or vitamin C 100 mg(group V) was separately administered before operation and PCEA was performed after operation.Pain intensity was assessed using VAS(0=no pain,10=worst pain),and dose of drug, frequency of press, frequency of effective press and ratio of D/D were recorded at 1,4,8,16,20 and 24 h after operation.Degree of lower limb motor block was evaluated by modified Bromage score at 8,16 and 24 h.Total impression of patients to PCEA was evaluated at 24 h after operation. Results There were not significantly differences between two groups with respect to age, weight, duration of operation, vital signs and score of VAS(P >0.05).Dose of drug, frequency of press, frequency of effective press in group V were higher at 4,8,16,20 and 24h after operation compared with those in group C(P <0.05).However,there was not significant difference between both groups with respect to ratio of D/D at all time points after operation(P>0.05).There was not significant difference between both groups with respect to Score of modified Bromage, incidence of cystospasm and total impression of patients to PCEA at all time points after operation too(P>0.05).Two in group V and none in group C had nausea and vomiting and there was not significant difference between the two groups. Conclusion Administration of a preoperative dose of celecoxib for patients receiving suprapubic transvesical prostatectomy to assist PCEA can significantly decrease the consumption of fentinal and bupivacaine and provides optimal analgesia.
