Abstract:The molecular structure of tetra( imidazole) copper(II) terephthalate was determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction methods. The complex is triclinic, space group P (1) over bar, with a = 8.0299(6), b = 8.4180(7), c = 8.8992(4) angstrom, alpha = 77.122(3), beta = 68.898(3), gamma = 76.116(2)degrees, V = 538.59(7)angstrom(3). The Cu(II) atom is located on an inversion center and assumes tetragonally elongated octahedral coordination geometry, with an axial Cu-O( carboxyl) bond distance of 2.682(2) angstrom. The terephthalate dianion is located on another inversion center and bridges neighboring Cu( II) atoms to form polymeric chains. IR spectra of the complex are consistent with the crystal structure.

Abstract:Three compounds, BaDyCuTe3, K1.5Dy2Cu2.5Te5, and K0.5Ba0.5DyCu1.5Te3, were synthesized from the reaction at 850 degrees C of the pure elements with fluxes such as BaCl2 or a eutectic mixture of LiCl/KCl. The crystal structures of the three compounds were determined by the single-crystal X-ray method. The final R-values for the three crystals were, respectively, 4.34%, 3.95%, and 3.46%. All three structures can be viewed as tetrahedral structures based on CuTe4 units. BaDyCuTe3 crystallizes in the orthorhombic space group Cmcm (no. 63) with cell dimensions of a = 4.4286(3) Angstrom, b = 14.7895(10) Angstrom, c = 11.3454(8) Angstrom, and Z = 4. BaDyCuTe3 is isotypic with the known structure of KZrCuS3. The other compounds, K0.5Ba0.5DyCu1.5Te3 and K1.5Dy2Cu2.5Te5, belong to new structure types. The structure of the former compound is a filled version of the BaDyCuTe3 compound noted above. However, unlike BaDyCuTe3, K0.5Ba0.5DyCu1.5Te3 crystallizes in the noncentrosymmetric orthorhombic space group Cmc2(1) (no. 36) with cell dimensions of a = 4.3877(3) Angstrom, b = 14.9001(12) Angstrom, c = 11.4847(9) Angstrom, and Z = 4. While BaDyCuTe3 contains infinite one-dimensional chains of tetrahedra with stoichiometry [CuTe35-](infinity), the new phase K0.5Ba0.5DyCu1.5Te3 forms a three-dimesional framework of tetrahedra. The compound K1.5Dy2Cu2.5Te5 crystallizes in another orthorhombic space group, Pmnn (No.58) with cell axes of a = 4.3307(1) Angstrom, b = 16.6766(2) Angstrom, c = 17.6945(2) Angstrom, and Z = 4. This final structure can also be related to that of K0.5Ba0.5DyCu1.5Te3.

Abstract:The crystal structure of germanium selenide has been analysed by X-ray method. The structure is orthorhombic with the space group D 2 h 16 - Pcmn . The dimensions of the unit cell containing four chemical units, GeSe, are a =4.38, b =3.82 and c =10.79 Å. It follows from the positions of all atoms determined by means of the electron-density projection that the structure is of a distorted NaCl type isomorphous with SnS and SnSe, The distances Ge–Se are 2.54, 2.58, 3.30 and 3.39 Å.

Abstract:The compounds with ternary structures of the chalcopyrite family Cu-III-Se2 (III = Al, Ga, In, Cr) form a wide group of semiconductor materials with diverse optical and electrical properties, and the addition of FeSe binary compound produces alloys of the type (Cu-III-Se2)1-x(Fe-Se)x. These types of materials have received increasing attention as promising thermoelectric materials due to their high efficiency, tunable transport properties, high elemental abundance and low toxicity. This work aims to synthesize and characterize structurally a new material belonging to this semiconductor system with x = 1⁄2, the quaternary compound CuFeCrSe3. This material was prepared by the melt and anneal technique and its structure was refined from Xray powder diffraction pattern using the Rietveld method. The X-ray powder pattern was mainly composed of CuFeCrSe3 (79.1%) with CuCr2Se4 (20.9%) appearing as secondary phase. The principal phase crystallizes with tetragonal symmetry in the space group P 4 2c (No 112), Z = 1, with a = 5.5082(2) Å, c = 10.943(1) Å, V = 332.01(1) Å3. The refinement of 18 instrumental and structural parameters led to Rp = 8.8 %, Rwp = 9.1 %, Rexp = 7.8 % and S = 1.2. This material, belonging to the semiconductor system I-II-III-VI3, crystallizes with a CuFeInSe3-type structure in a normal adamantane-structure. CuFeCrSe3 is a new semiconductor compound, related to the superionic phase CuCrSe2, and can be considered as a potential candidate for mediumtemperature thermoelectric applications.

Abstract:The new selenide Cs2Ge3In6Se14, featuring its own structure type with germanium in mixed-valence states, is discovered via a solid-state reaction at 1173 K. The compound crystallizes in the R (3) over bar m space group with a = 7.9951(6) (A) over circle and c = 41.726(4) (A) over circle. Two adjacent condensed layers of InSe4 tetrahedra are linked by a [Ge2+Se6] octahedron into a double slice that is further stacked along the c direction with a packing sequence of ...abca... through the [Ge23+Se6] dimer via its Ge-Ge metallic bond. The coexistence of Ge2+/Ge3+ and Ge-Ge metallic bonding has been confirmed by XPS and ELF analyses, respectively. More interestingly, although sharing many structure similarities, Cs2Ge3In6Se14 and our previously reported Cs2Ge3In6Te14 reveal a R (3) over barm to P (3) over bar m1 structure transformation with a tripled c parameter. Single-crystal diffraction data and a thorough structure survey of related compounds point out that such a transformation is driven by the size preference of the [Ge(2)Q(6)] dimer. The title compound possesses a band gap of 2.08 eV and shows photodegradation of RhB under visible light that is more efficient than that for the commercial P25.

Abstract:Cs2PdSe8(1), a novel palladium polyselenide with a three-dimensional open framework structure, has been synthesized via a solvothermal reaction using ethylenediamine as solvent. Its crystal structure has been determined by single crystal X-ray diffraction. The structure belongs to the tetragonal space group I4(1)/acd (No. 142), a=14.935(2), c=12.907(3) Angstrom, V=2897.0(8) Angstrom(3), Z=8, R-1=0.044, and wR(2)=0.063, for 640 unique reflections. The unique three-dimensional network is composed of two (3)(infinity)[Pd(Se-4)(2)](2-) frameworks that are topologically identical and mutually insertional. Each framework is built upon by connecting the neighboring square-planar [Pd(Se-4)(2)](2-) units to generate an infinite assembly resembling alternating right- and left-handed helices running along the c-axis. Thermal analysis (TGA) showed that compound 1 is stable up to 320 degrees C. Optical studies performed on the powder sample of 1 suggested that the compound is a semiconductor and a band gap of 1.5 eV was estimated from the diffuse reflectance data. (C) 1998 Academic Press.

Abstract:Reactions in superheated ethylenediamine (en) solutions at 160 degrees C resulted in two novel quaternary intermetallic copper selenides, RbCu1.2Ag3.8Se3(I) and Cs2Cu2Sb2Se5(II). Both I and II are metal rich and represent new layered structure types. Compound I crystallizes in the tetragonal crystal system, space group P4/nbm (No. 125) with a 5.991(1) Angstrom, c=10.918(2) Angstrom, Z= 2, V=391.9(1) Angstrom(3), R1/wR2 = 0.0373/0.0458 for all reflections. Compound II belongs to the triclinic crystal system, space group P (1) over bar (No. 2), a 7.645(1) Angstrom, b = 8.768(2) Angstrom, 10.264(1) A, a = 91.97(2)degrees, beta = 92.07(2)degrees, gamma = 103.05(1)degrees Z= 2, V= 669.2(3) Angstrom(3), R1/wR2= 0.0685/0.0740 for all reflections. I consists of (2)(infinity)[(Cu1.2Ag3.8Se3)(-)] layers and Rb+ counterions located between these layers. There are two types of metal-to-selenium coordination, a square planar (Ag) and a trigonal pyramidal(Cu/Ag). The Se(1) atom displays an unusual eight coordination with Ag and Cu. II contains alternating (2)(infinity)[(Cu2Sb2Se5)(2-)] anionic and Cs+ cationic layers. Each copper atom has a distorted tetrahedral coordination to four Se atoms, and each antimony atom bonds to three Se atoms to result in a trigonal pyramidal geometry. Both I and II are semiconductors with estimated band gaps of 0.7-0.8 and 1.2-1.3 eV, respectively. (C) 1999 Academic Press.

Abstract:Er2S3 with Sc2S3-type structure is orthorhombic, space group Fddd, a=8.085(1) Angstrom, b=11.346(1) Angstrom, c=24.140(2) Angstrom, V=2214.4(4) Angstrom(3), Z=16. Refinement proceeded to R(F)=0.068 for 1035 observed reflections with 1>2.5 sigma(I). There are two types of crystallographically independent Er atoms both at 16(g) and two kinds of crystalIographically independent Se atoms at 16(e) and 32(h). Both types of Er atoms are in slightly distorted octahedral coordination by Se; Se atoms are coordinated by erbium atoms at four of the six vertices of a slightly distorted octahedron, vacancies are in cis positions.

Abstract:A new compound K2Cu2GeS4 was successfully synthesized by using molten thiourea reactive flux method. The structure was determined by single crystal X-ray diffraction. The compound crystallizes in the monoclinic system of space group P2/c with a unit cell of a = 7.063 (3) angstrom, b = 5.435 (3) angstrom, c = 11.037 (6) angstrom and beta - 112.83 (3)degrees. The crystal structure of K2Cu2GeS4 is composed of defective anti-PbO like [Cu2GeS4](2) layers which are interleaved by K-1 cations. This compound is a semiconductor with an indirect band gap of 2.3 (1) eV, which is derived from optical absorption spectrum. First principles calculations reveal that K(2)Cu(2)GeS4 has interesting intermediate bands consisting of Ge-4s and S-3p orbitals. This new semiconductor is potentially suitable for solar photocatalytic and photoelectric applications. (C) 2017 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Abstract:The quaternary compound La3CuGaSe7, which is the first Cu2+-containing compound in the Ce6Al3.33S14 family (space group P6(3), Pearson symbol hP24), was synthesized in a solid state reaction at 1273 K. The structure was determined by single crystal X-ray diffraction. The refined lattice parameters are a = 10.6010(8) angstrom and c = 6.376(1) angstrom. The crystal structure consists of isolated [CuSe3](4-) pyramid and [GaSe4](5-) tetrahedra. The isolated [CuSe3](4-) pyramid and the isolated [GaSe4](5-) tetrahedra are connected by [LaSe7](11-) monocapped trigonal prisms. Phase purity of the powder sample was confirmed by powder X-ray diffraction. The band gap of the compound is 1.36 eV.
