Abstract:As a development of classical nonmonotonic logic,argumentation logic(also called abstract argumentation theory,and formal argumentation,etc.) provides a general mechanism to handle the problems of inconsistency in various situations.It captures the common properties of various reasoning systems in a context of disagreement by using abstract arguments and attack relations,and defines the acceptability of arguments by establishing general evaluation criteria(called argumentation semantics).This makes argumentation logic generally applicable to various situations.First,since the evaluation of the status of arguments is only related to the attack relations among them,the types,origins,representation languages and methods,of underlying knowledge,are allowed to be diverse.Second,the evaluation criteria corresponding to certain argumentation semantics are suitable to various applications.Third,argumentation logic not only supports the epistemic reasoning and the practical reasoning of individual agents,but also supports the reasoning in the process of multiagent interaction(e.g.,persuasion,disputation,negotiation,etc).Currently,the emphasis of the research of argumentation logic is on the definitions and computational methods of argumentation semantics,the instantiation approaches of argumentation semantics,and the applications of argumentation semantics,etc.

Abstract:Logic is a science."Informal logic" relies on logic,no matter how it emphasizes or deals with the so called "informal"."Critical Thinking" is quite different,as it would have nothing to do with logic,at least literally.So critical thinking is not logic,or it could not be logic.As a notion,critical thinking is ambiguous and vague,and its upholders have so far no clear explanations for it.In my view,it is wrong to take it as a logical course and even worse to replace the logical course with it in the universities.

Abstract:The paper is concerned with the ambiguity of the formalization of reasoning and the origin of the paradox of material implication.It argues that reasoning is the object of logic while logic is based on reasoning.The paradox of material implication is resulted from its double roles.Though the paradox of material implications can't be settled easily,they can be eliminated under some conditions.Since each logic system uses reasoning and has its shortcomings,the narrow logic view should be discarded in order to help mathematical logic develop.

Abstract:To further examine and study the basic issues of the "view of logic" is a necessary approach to understand the status and the prospect of the development of logic in China.The disputes in the past decades on the "relation of formal logic and mathematical logic" and that of the "views of logic in narrow sense and in broad sense" is helpful to the clarification of the distinctions between different scopes and different levels of logic,illustrating the depth and width of the development of the logic study in China.Based on this,a further discussion is made to resolve the tough problems caused by the tangled hierarchies in the past disputes,by clearly distinguishing the multi-leveled meanings of "reasoning" and "form",while achieving a new view of "applied logic":To systematically explore the function mechanic of logic factors in a certain field and the interaction of logical and non-logical factors,with the key point of grasping the methodological "patterns" of in this field,in order to form an applied logical methodology.From this point of view,a clear hierarchical "view of logic in broad sense" which can cover the disciplines of basic logic and those of the applied logic can be gained,which is helpful to grasp the development tendency of the contemporary logic study and the ways of the three-leveled development in basic logic,applied logic and the application of logic in China.

Abstract:Logical method is a traditional method in studying judicial arguments,it plays an important role in analyzing and evaluating judicial arguments.The pluralistic character of logic makes it clear that instead of reducing various forms of reasoning into one standard mode,we can employ different models to describe reasoning and define validity.Various deductive modes can only be used to formalize prove-style arguments,but dialectic-style arguments should be analyzed by non-monotonic logic.

Abstract:West logic includes Aristotelian categorical logic and Stoic propositional logic in ancient time and modern mathematic logic. The differences between modern logic and ancient logic mainly are the method, not the research object. Ancient logic closely links with languages but modem logic more links with mathematic. Chinese logic discussed the theories of Naming (Ming), Proposition (Ci), Reasoning (Shuo) and Disputation (Bian), so it looks like west traditional logic only from this aspect. But this is only the surface of things, in deep levels, Chinese logic focuses on discussing the validity of reasoning and arguments as modern logic. Chinese logic is short of the study for the reasoning forms, mainly expressing as informal logic on the levels of object theory, but expressing as formal logical theory and logical law on the levels of metatheory.

Abstract:'Logic' is a growing and changing concept.Logic is concerned with human thinking;it refines the prescriptions of how human beings should think from the descriptions of how human beings actually think.Because of the development of human thinking and the change of human's wants in cognition and practice,logical studies of different historical periods usually show important difference in their subject matters,emphases,methodologies and results,and then the varieties of logical theories have been multiplied.In the push of computer science and artificial intelligence research,contemporary logic becomes to focus on the investigation of how human actually think on different concrete topics,and brings itself some new characteristics,e.g.the direct and obvious description of actual process of thinking,the complexity of logical techniques,the uncertainty of the conclusions of inference,and the pursue of the applicability of the resulting theories,and so on.We can't take the dominant approach of a historical period to be absolutely or uniquely correct one,and use it to judge all the research of our historical predecessors and contemporary colleagues.We should never forget the slogan that 'independence in spirit,freedom in thinking' which is the soul of academic research,and never forget to put it into practice in our logical studies.We should maintain academic standards and protect academic freedom at the same time.

Abstract:This paper explains,clarifies and argues for the following thesis:the revisablility of logic is a serious and difficult topic,it means that classic logic is revisable,but the revision is local and partial,not total and comprehensive.Classic logic cannot justify itself completely,besides metalogical justification,some other forms of justification are needed.Logic is the abstraction and idealization of human epistemic practice,and also has some indirect and remote connections with the world,that is why logic is revisable.There is no essential difference between the methodology of logic and the methodology of other sciences,that is,they both adopt the procedure of hypothesis-deduction.It is difficult for people to accept the revisability of logic just because they make some inappropriate reasonings and transitions.Although logic is revisable,it is always a reasonable strategy not to hurt logic.Revisionism in logic is almost fallibilism in logic,vice versa.

Abstract:It is a general view that traditional logic is expressed in natural language and modern logic in formal one, which indicates that modern logic can not solve problems in natural language, while the traditional logic can. This is wrong. The primary difference between traditional logic and modern logic lies, on the surface, in their expressive forms, but in fact, in their syntax and semantics: the former is of the subject-predicate structure, while the latter of predicate structure. Abstract:AbstractChad Hansen provocatively claimed that there was no such thing as Chinese Logic. To assess the significance or otherwise of this claim one must know what he means by Logic (i.e. what he is denying to classical Chinese culture), what the rhetorical force of such a claim might be, regardless of his intended meaning, and whether this might be misleading in the sense that one would be missing something important about classical Chinese culture by denying there is anything that could be called Chinese ‘logic’ (as would be the case if one denied that there is anything that can be called Chinese ‘mathematics’ just because one cannot find axioms, proofs and theorems). Our paper will treat each of these in turn, first looking at the basis of Chad Hansen’s claim, and in particular at what he means by Logic. Second, looking more broadly at the rhetorical force of such a claim, regardless of its intended meaning. And thirdly looking at what important features of Chinese ways of thinking and acting this might lead one to overlook. It is to counter the rhetorical force of Hansen’s claim that the title of this paper implies the counter claim that Chinese Logic exists.

Abstract:The development of non-monotonic logics has revitalized the question: "What is logic?" The school of abstract logic holds that logic deals with the validity of argument,which is completely abstracted from the context of the argument used,and is essentially deductive logic and monotonic;while the school of embedded logic insists that logic is the study of standards for good arguments in real life,therefore it is essentially non-monotonic. However,their answers do not distinguish good arguments from the logical point of view and good arguments from the rhetorical point of view.Non-formal logicians are trying to distinguish the functional ranges of demonstrative appraisal of logic and rhetoric.This paper first explores the relationship between the argument-as-product and argument-as-process;then it classifies the non-formal logic as formal-dialectical school and pragma-dialectical school;thirdly,it focuses on theoretical sources,basic characteristics and objects of non-formal logic,and finally it proposes the future directions of non-formal logic.

Abstract:Argumentation of Contemporary Analytic Philosophy on logical rules is experiencing the return of Hegelian thought. The reason is that Although Sellars argued that representationism of analytic tradition, which mistakenly took Kantian duality of concept and intuition as empirically separable, logically led to the myth of the Given, his argument, similared to Kant's self-legislative conception, was still within the framework of the Given. This prompted Brandon to criticize Kantian Given of logic with Hegelian pragmatism. However, his argument is free from the framework, but it is caught in Hegelian so-called skepticism which always sees in its results only pure nothingness. In this regard, Hegel's argumentation strategy is self-denial of self-consciousness by the way of interactive negotiation, which shows that the logical rules are not only the logical structure of the world and the mind, but also the pragmatic norms of lawfulness and rationality.
