Abstract:The third wave of globalization has a profound impact on the global pattern of income distribution. The degree of income inequality has increased within countries.Increasing income inequality in developed countries has led to macroeconomic financialization and accumulation of consumer debt.To thoes new industrialized countries participating actively in the process of globalization, income inequality undermines domestic demand. In order to cope with the financial risks associated with globalization, the developing countries accumulate huge foreign exchange reserves, thus providing indirectly the debt financing for consumers in developed countries. This situation is in essence a kind of unsustainable globalization.Along with the real estate bubble bursting in the developed countries, subprime crisis spread to the whole world, and evolved into a global financial crisis.
