Abstract:A multi-loop adaptive internal model control (IMC) strategy based on a dynamic partial least squares (PLS) framework is proposed to account for plant model errors caused by slow aging, drift in operational conditions, or environmental changes. Since PLS decomposition structure enables multi-loop controller design within latent spaces, a multivariable adaptive control scheme can be converted easily into several independent univariable control loops in the PLS space. In each latent subspace, once the model error exceeds a specific threshold, online adaptation rules are implemented separately to correct the plant model mismatch via a recursive least squares (RLS) algorithm. Because the IMC extracts the inverse of the minimum part of the internal model as its structure, the IMC controller is self-tuned by explicitly updating the parameters, which are parts of the internal model. Both parameter convergence and system stability are briefly analyzed, and proved to be effective. Finally, the proposed control scheme is tested and evaluated using a widely-used benchmark of a multi-input multi-output (MIMO) system with pure delay.

Abstract:According to the internal model control (IMC) theory, non-parameter model of the permanent magnet linear synchronous motor (PMLSM) was made, then a novel IMC controller of PMLSM was designed. The optimal parameters of IMC was adjusted and decided by theory analysis and simulation. The simulating and experimental results show that the proposed controller provides perfect dynamic response performance in both reference tracking and disturbance rejection,moreover, it is robust to external disturbance.

Abstract:A new adaptive internal model control (IMC) scheme based on a novel adaptive model is proposed to account for the process uncertainties in MIMO system. A dynamic partial least squares (PLS) decoupling structure which integrated tradition PLS model and auto-regressive exogenous (ARX) is introduced to model the dynamic process. In the presence of uncertainties, adaptive mechanisms including recursive PLS (RPLS) and recursive least squares (RLS) are used to update the model on-line. Accordingly, the adaptive IMC is designed based on the updated model. To demonstrate the modeling effect of the dynamic PLS decoupling structure and the control performance of the adaptive IMC scheme under uncertainties, a simulation example is presented.

Abstract:Internal Thermally Coupled Air Separation Column(ITCASC) has great potential for energy saving in air separation,which is a breakthrough in the energy saving technique of internal thermally coupled distillation.However,the control of the system is very difficult due to the nonlinearity,complex dynamics and interactive nature of the process.A novel reduced-order model for ITCASC is therefore proposed,and an internal model controller is further designed based on the above proposed reduced-order model.The research results demonstrate that the IMC controller can deal with the nonlinearity and the interactive nature,which is more effective for ITCASC than PID controllers.

Abstract:An internal model control scheme based on a second-order internal model (SI-IMC) is proposed for the heat-integrated air separation column (HIASC). An adaptive internal model control (ASI-IMC) scheme is further presented to make the model more accurate. The IMC scheme based on the first-order model (F-IMC) and the multi-loop PID (M-PID) scheme are also explored as the comparison basis of ASI-IMC and SI-IMC schemes. Comparative researches among these four control schemes are carried out in detail. The results indicate that ASI-IMC presents the best performances among the four control schemes in both servo control and regulatory control, which proves the improvement of ASI-IMC over the SI-IMC and the superiority of ASI-IMC for the high-purity HIASC.

Abstract:In this paper, a design procedure of support vector machine (SVM) with RBF kernel function based internal model control (IMC) strategy for stable nonlinear systems with input-output form is proposed. The control scheme consists of two controllers: a SVM based controller which fulfils the direct inverse model control and a traditional controller which fulfils the close-loop control. And so the scheme can deal with the errors between the process and the SVM based internal model generated by model mismatch and additional disturbance. Simulations are given to illustrate the proposed design procedure and the properties of the SVM based internal model control scheme for unknown nonlinear systems with time delay.

Abstract:In this paper, a multi-loop internal model control (IMC) scheme in conjunction with feed-forward strategy based on the dynamic partial least squares (DyPLS) framework is proposed. Unlike the traditional methods to decouple multi-input multi-output (MIMO) systems, the DyPLS framework automatically decomposes the MIMO process into a multi-loop system in the PLS subspace in the modeling stage. The dynamic filters with identical structure are used to build the dynamic PLS model, which retains the orthogonality among the latent variables. To address the model mismatch problem, an off-line least squares method is applied to obtain a set of optimal filter parameters in each latent space. Without losing the merits of model-based control, a simple and easy-tuned IMC structure is readily carried over to the dynamic PLS control framework. In addition, by projecting the measurable disturbance into the latent subspace, a multi-loop feed-forward control is yielded to achieve better performance for disturbance rejection. Simulation results of a distillation column are used to further demonstrate this new strategy outperforms conventional control schemes in servo behavior and disturbance rejection.

Abstract:Multirate multivariable predictive control system with the sampling mechanism that adjusts the plant inputs only once but detects the plant outputs several times during a period is examined. The IMC structure of the system is derived, and its robust stability and zero steady state error characteristics are analyzed. A new control algorithm is developed by adding the variation of the outputs to the index performance. The simulation results show that the method is effective and has zeros steady-state error.

Abstract:In order to improve the anti-interference ability of the servo system, the Internal Model Control(IMC) is applied to the turntable servo system. The strategy takes the velocity loop simplified by using the current loop as the control object, and uses the IMC to give the desired trajectory of the system out put. By introducing the IMC scheme into the servo system, the strategy can reduce the effects of model errors and external disturbances on the system, and enhanced the system’s anti-disturbances ability. The design procedures of the proposes controller and the structure of the closed-loop control system are given. The high performance of the proposed strategy is validated by comparative simulations. The simulation results showed that the proposed strategy has strong robustness to system parameter perturbation, and has higher stability accuracy and robustness than Proportion Integration Differentiation(PID) control.

Abstract:This paper presented a trajectory tracking algorithm applied for an intelligent driving system. Both the path tracking and longitudinal speed tracking controller are based on IMC algorithm and are carried out respectively. A simulation tool is introduced in this paper and some simulation tests were conducted to verify the proposed trajectory planning algorithm. The simulation results show that the proposed trajectory tracking algorithm is valid and good for the applications of vehicle driving in complex environment.

Abstract:The dynamic performance of conventional Internal Model Control(IMC) is usually improved at the expense of robustness.To against this disadvantage, an improved gain predictive adaptive IMC algorithm is proposed.This algorithm is based on an unaltered acceleration model and predicts the object's gain according to its historical variation, then tunes the gains of model and con-troller online.Consequently, the mismatch between model and object is narrowed and the system 's robustness is enhanced.After applying it in a temperature control system with time delay, excellent control performance is achieved.

Abstract:An Internal Model Control (IMC) method is proposed for electronic-hydraulic servo system in this paper. As an advanced control algorithm, the design idea of IMC is that the object model is connected to the actual object in parallel, and the controller approaches the dynamic inverse of the model. Considering the advantages of IMC such as being insensitive to the model error, the electronic-hydraulic servo system model is simplified by reducing orders. The controller based on the simplified model has only one adjustable parameter which is directly related to system dynamic performance and robustness. Therefore, the parameter is regulated conveniently, and the randomicity and complexity of the controller regulation are avoided. Simulation and experiment results show that the IMC method overcomes parameter perturbation and improves the tracking performance and robustness of system. Furthermore, the artillery tracking error is within ±0.36 mrad.

Abstract:Aiming at the practical plants with strong nonlinear characteristics, a new multi-model internal model control (MIMC) strategy based on Gaussian potential function networks (GPFN) is proposed in this paper. The internal model is represented by GPFN and the corresponding controller can be got directly, which simplifies the control law design and analyses greatly. Meanwhile, the way of model switch is developed based on fuzzy decision. This MIMC scheme avoids the complex calculation when adjusting the controller parameter and overcomes the switch vibration. Simulation results demonstrate that the strategy has advantage of internal model control (IMC) and multi-model control and could achieve better system performance than the conventional IMC (CIMC).

Abstract:To meet the special requirements of high dynamic and performance for turntable servo systems, an internal model control (IMC) method based on reversible residual neural network model is proposed in this paper. In order to improve the accuracy and modeling efficiency of the forward and inverse models in the internal model controller and ensure the correlation between these two models, a reversible residual neural network model based on the forward and inverse dynamic characteristics of turntable servo systems is proposed. Through the special design of the network structure, the forward and inverse models can be obtained by one-way training. Then, the forward and inverse models are applied to the traditional IMC algorithm framework, the IMC method based on the reversible network model is obtained, and the stability of the control system is proved. The simulation results show that the proposed IMC method has better nonlinear compensation ability, tracking effect, and dynamic performance than the traditional IMC method. In addition, the design process of the proposed internal model controller is simpler and more practical. The method described in this paper has important value and significance for the intelligent development of traditional servo control.
Fast Online SVR Algorithm Based Adaptive Internal Model Control

Abstract:Based on fast online support vector regression (SVR) algorithm, reverse model of system model is constructed, and adaptive internal model controller is developed. First, SVR model and its online training algorithm are introduced. A kernel cache method is used to accelerate the online training algorithm, which makes it suitable for real-time control application. Then it is used in internal model control (IMC) for online constructing internal model and designing the internal model controller. Output errors of the system are used to control online SVR algorithm, which made the whole control system a closed-loop one. Last, the fast online SVM based adaptive internal model control was used to control a benchmark nonlinear system. Simulation results show that the controller has simple structure, good control performance and robustness.

Abstract:A modified internal model control(IMC)method for non-square processes with multiple time delays and right-half-plant zeros is proposed.By inserting compensated terms,the unrealizable factors of the derived controller are removed.A first-order filter is added to the IMC structure to improve the robustness of the control system.Meanwhile,the sufficient and necessary conditions for holding robust stability of the system are analyzed in the presence of parameters uncertainty.The low bounds of the control parameters are derived quantitatively to guarantee the robust stability of the system.Finally,simulation results show the effectiveness of the proposed control schemes.

Abstract:Based on the internal model control (IMC) structure, an iterative learning control (ILC) scheme is proposed for batch processes with model uncertainties including time delay mismatch. An important merit is that the IMC design for the initial run of the proposed control scheme is independent of the subsequent ILC for realization of perfect tracking. Sufficient conditions to guarantee the convergence of ILC are derived. To facilitate the controller design, a unified controller form is proposed for implementation of both IMC and ILC in the proposed control scheme. Robust tuning constraints of the unified controller are derived in terms of the process uncertainties described in a multiplicative form. To deal with process uncertainties, the unified controller can be monotonically tuned to meet the compromise between tracking performance and control system robust stability. Illustrative examples from the recent literature are performed to demonstrate the effectiveness and merits of the proposed control scheme.

Abstract:In this paper, an iterative learning control algorithm is proposed for discrete linear time-varying systems to track iteration-varying desired trajectories. A high-order internal model (HOIM) is utilized to describe the variation of desired trajectories in the iteration domain. In the sequel, the HOIM is incorporated into the design of learning gains. The learning convergence in the iteration axis can be guaranteed with rigorous proof. The simulation results with permanent magnet linear motors (PMLM) demonstrate that the proposed HOIM based approach yields good performance and achieves perfect tracking.

Abstract:The internal model control (IMC) has been widely used for its simple structure, but its control performance has a relationship with the filter order and time constant directly, so that its disturbance rejection performance is influenced in the permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) drive system. An IMC with extended state observer (ESO) is proposed in this paper. Based on the mechanism of IMC and the mathematical model of PMSM, the first order and second order internal model controllers are designed. Then, the design method of dynamic compensation using ESO for PMSM is presented, and the novel internal model controller with ESO is realized. Simulation and experimental results show that the proposed control strategy can reduce the influence of external torque disturbance and moment of inertia variation on the performance of the system. And the effectiveness of IMC with ESO is verified.
