Abstract:In this paper, based on concept lattices and dual concept lattices, we introduced a pair of rough set approximation operators within formal contexts. The proposed approximations operators don't require the equivalence relation any more. The properties of the proposed approximation operators are discussed in details.

Abstract:Formal concept analysis and rough set theory are two important tools in knowledge representation and knowledge discovery in relational information systems. The purpose of this paper is to study rough set approximations within formal concept analysis in fuzzy environment. Properties of existent fuzzy concept lattices derived from an adjoint pair of operations are first reviewed and examined. Based on both lattice-theoretic and fuzzy set-theoretic operators, two new pairs of rough fuzzy set approximations within fuzzy formal contexts are then defined. Finally, properties of the rough fuzzy set approximation operators are presented in detail.

Abstract:In this paper we present a novel approach to the concept approximations in concept lattice. Using the similar idea of rough set theory and unique properties of concept lattice, upper and lower approximations of any object or attribute set can be found by exploiting meet-(union-)irreducible elements in concept lattice, the approximations can be performed on the fly. We show that our approach is more natural and effective than existing approach.

Abstract:In this paper, we tailor-make new approximation operators inspired by rough set theory and specially suited for domain theory. Our approximation operators offer a fresh perspective to existing concepts and results in domain theory, but also reveal ways to establishing novel domain-theoretic results. For instance, (1) the well-known interpolation property of the way-below relation on a continuous poset is equivalent to the idempotence of a certain set-operator; (2) the continuity of a poset can be characterized by the coincidence of the Scott closure operator and the upper approximation operator induced by the way below relation; (3) meet-continuity can be established from a certain property of the topological closure operator. Additionally, we show how, to each approximating relation, an associated order-compatible topology can be defined in such a way that for the case of a continuous poset the topology associated to the way-below relation is exactly the Scott topology. A preliminary investigation is carried out on this new topology.

Abstract:This paper presents a general framework for the study of covering-based fuzzy approximation operators in which a fuzzy set can be approximated by some elements in a crisp or a fuzzy covering of the universe of discourse. Two types of approximation operators, crisp-covering-based rough fuzzy approximation operators and fuzzy-covering-based fuzzy rough approximation operators, are defined, their properties are examined in detail. Finally, the comparison of these new approximation operators is done, a sufficient and necessary condition is given under which some operators are equivalent, and approximation operator characterization of fuzzy partitions of the universe is obtained.

Abstract:This paper proposes an approach to fuzzy rough sets in the framework of lattice theory. The new model for fuzzy rough sets is based on the concepts of both fuzzy covering and binary fuzzy logical operators (fuzzy conjunction and fuzzy implication). The conjunction and implication are connected by using the complete lattice-based adjunction theory. With this theory, fuzzy rough approximation operators are generalized and fundamental properties of these operators are investigated. Particularly, comparative studies of the generalized fuzzy rough sets to the classical fuzzy rough sets and Pawlak rough set are carried out. It is shown that the generalized fuzzy rough sets are an extension of the classical fuzzy rough sets as well as a fuzzification of the Pawlak rough set within the framework of complete lattices. A link between the generalized fuzzy rough approximation operators and fundamental morphological operators is presented in a translation-invariant additive group.

Abstract:The topological properties of coverings and their corresponding covering approximation operators have drawn special attention because these topological properties have important applications in rough sets. In this paper, we present some topological characterizations for three covering approximation operators. In the first part, we present certain topological characterizations for the covering lower approximation operator in an infinite universe, while the topological characterizations for the first and the second types of covering upper approximation operators are studied in a finite universe. In the second part, the relationships among three operators and the relationships among three topological spaces are established. In a word, topology theory provides useful tools to study covering-based rough sets.

Abstract:The present paper is concerned with problems of the strong uniqueness of the best approximation and the characterization of a uniqueness element in operator spaces. Some results on the strong uniqueness of the best approximation operator from RS-sets are proved and the uniqueness element of a sun in the compact operator space from c(0) to c(0) is characterized by the strict Kolmogorov's condition. Some recent results due to Lewicki and others are extended and improved.

Abstract:We consider the ferromagnetic Ising model with Glauber spin flip dynamics in one dimension. The external magnetic field vanishes and the couplings are i.i.d. random variables. If their distribution has compact support, the disorder averaged spin auto-correlation function has an exponential decay in time. We prove that, if the couplings are unbounded, the decay switches to either a power law or a stretched exponential, in general.

Abstract:Finding approximations of concepts in other ontologies is the key problem in approximate query rewriting, an approach of querying in heterogeneous ontologies. The data-driven method suffers from the extremely overlarge expressions of approximations. The paper defines multielement least upper bounds and multielement greatest lower bounds of concept to get refined approximations. They are proved having the same answer sets as the approximations from data-driven method, but are in simplified expressions. The effective algorithms to find the multielement bounds are also provided.

Abstract:In digital-based information boom, the fuzzy covering rough set model is an important mathematical tool for artificial intelligence, and how to build the bridge between the fuzzy covering rough set theory and Pawlak's model is becoming a hot research topic. In this paper, we first present the $\gamma-$fuzzy covering based probabilistic and grade approximation operators and double-quantitative approximation operators. We also study the relationships among the three types of $\gamma-$fuzzy covering based approximation operators. Second, we propose the $\gamma^{\ast}-$fuzzy coverings based multi-granulation probabilistic and grade lower and upper approximation operators and multi-granulation double-quantitative lower and upper approximation operators. We also investigate the relationships among these types of $\gamma-$fuzzy coverings based approximation operators. Finally, we employ several examples to illustrate how to construct the lower and upper approximations of fuzzy sets with the absolute and relative quantitative information.

Abstract:This paper is concerned with the problem of nonlinear best simultaneous approximations in conditional complete lattice Banach spaces with a strong unit. Characterization results of the best simultaneous approximation from simultaneous suns and suns are established. A counterexample, to which the characterization theorem for convex sets due to Mohebi (Numer. Funct. Anal. Optim., 25 (2004), 685-705) fails, is provided and a corrected version of the theorem is presented.

Abstract:Approximation fixpoint theory (AFT) is an abstract and general algebraic framework for studying the semantics of non-monotonic logics. In recent work, AFT was generalized to non-deterministic operators, i.e.\ operators whose range are sets of elements rather than single elements. In this paper, we make three further contributions to non-deterministic AFT: (1) we define and study ultimate approximations of non-deterministic operators, (2) we give an algebraic formulation of the semi-equilibrium semantics by Amendola, et al., and (3) we generalize the characterisations of disjunctive logic programs to disjunctive logic programs with aggregates.

Abstract:We study approximate equivalence relations up to commensurability, in the presence of a definable measure. As a basic framework, we give a presentation of probability logic based on continuous logic. Hoover's normal form is valid here; if one begins with a discrete logic structure, it reduces arbitrary formulas of probability logic to correlations between quantifier-free formulas. We completely classify binary correlations in terms of the Kim-Pillay space, leading to strong results on the interpretative power of pure probability logic over a binary language. Assuming higher amalgamation of independent types, we prove a higher stationarity statement for such correlations. We also give a short model-theoretic proof of a categoricity theorem for continuous logic structures with a measure of full support, generalizing theorems of Gromov-Vershik and Keisler, and often providing a canonical model for a complete pure probability logic theory. These results also apply to local probability logic, providing in particular a canonical model for a local pure probability logic theory with a unique 1-type and geodesic metric. For sequences of approximate equivalence relations with an 'approximately unique' probability logic 1-type, we obtain a structure theorem generalizing the `Lie model' theorem for approximate subgroups. The models here are Riemannian homogeneous spaces, fibered over a locally finite graph. Specializing to definable graphs over finite fields, we show that after a finite partition, a definable binary relation converges in finitely many self-compositions to an equivalence relation of geometric origin. For NIP theories, pursuing a question of Pillay's, we prove an archimedean finite-dimensionality statement for the automorphism groups of definable measures, acting on a given type of definable sets.

Abstract:A mathematical approach to dealing with the problems of ambiguity and indeterminacy in knowledge is called a rough set theory. It begins by using an equivalence relation to divide the universe into parts. Numerous generalized rough set models have been developed and investigated to increase their adaptability and extend their range of applications. In this context, we introduce new generalized rough set models that are inspired by covering-based rough sets and ideals. In this paper, lower and upper approximations of new types of covering rough sets based on j-neighborhoods, complementary j-neighborhoods, and j-adhesions are defined via ideals. The main features of these approximations are examined. The relationships among them are given by various examples and propositions. Some comparisons between our methods and others? methods such as Abd El-Monsef et al.?s method [2] and Nawar et al.?s method [22] are given. A practical example is given to illustrate one of our methods is more precise.
