Abstract:The existence of optimal binary self-dual codes is a long-standing research problem. In this paper, we present some results concerning the decomposition of binary self-dual codes with a dihedral automorphism group D-2p, where p is a prime. These results are applied to construct new self-dual codes with length 78 or 116. We obtain 16 inequivalent self-dual [78, 39, 14] codes, four of which have new weight enumerators. We also show that there are at least 141 inequivalent self-dual [116, 58, 18] codes, most of which are new up to equivalence. Meanwhile, we give some restrictions on the weight enumerators of singly even self-dual codes. We use these restrictions to exclude some possible weight enumerators of self-dual codes with lengths 74, 76, 82, 98 and 100.

Abstract:A class of linear codes with good parameters is constructed in this correspondence. It turns out that linear codes of this class are subcodes of the subfield subcodes of Goppa's geometry codes. In particular, we find 61 improvements on Brouwer's table based on our codes.

Abstract:Self-orthogonal codes are a subclass of linear codes that are contained within their dual codes. Since self-orthogonal codes are widely used in quantum codes, lattice theory and linear complementary dual (LCD) codes, they have received continuous attention and research. In this paper, we construct a class of self-orthogonal codes by using the defining-set approach, and determine their explicit weight distributions and the parameters of their duals. Some considered codes are optimal according to the tables of best codes known maintained at \cite{Grassl} and a class of almost maximum distance separable (AMDS) codes from their duals are obtained. As applications, we obtain a class of new quantum codes, which are MDS or AMDS according to the quantum Singleton bound under certain conditions. Some examples show that the constructed quantum codes have the better parameters than known ones maintained at \cite{Bierbrauer}. Furthermore, a new class of LCD codes are given, which are almost optimal according to the sphere packing bound.

Abstract:A large family of linear codes with flexible parameters from almost bent functions and perfect nonlinear functions are constructed and their parameters are determined. Some constructed linear codes and their related codes are optimal in the sense that they meet certain bounds on linear codes. Applications of these codes in secret sharing schemes and combinational designs are presented.

Abstract:In 1964, Massey introduced a class of codes with complementary duals which are called linear complimentary dual (LCD) codes. He showed that LCD codes have applications in communication system, side-channel attack and so on. LCD codes have been extensively studied in literature. On the other hand, MDS codes form an optimal family of classical codes which have wide applications in both theory and practice. The main purpose of this paper is to give an explicit construction of several classes of LCD MDS codes, using tools from algebraic function fields. We exemplify this construction and obtain several classes of explicit LCD MDS codes for the odd characteristic case.

Abstract:The problem of finding good linear codes for joint source-channel coding (JSCC) is investigated in this paper. By the code-spectrum approach, it has been proved in the authors' previous paper that a good linear code for the authors' JSCC scheme is a code with a good joint spectrum, so the main task in this paper is to construct linear codes with good joint spectra. First, the code-spectrum approach is developed further to facilitate the calculation of spectra. Second, some general principles for constructing good linear codes are presented. Finally, we propose an explicit construction of linear codes with good joint spectra based on low density parity check (LDPC) codes and low density generator matrix (LDGM) codes.

Abstract:Self-orthogonal codes are of interest as they have important applications in quantum codes, lattices and many areas. In this paper, based on the weakly regular plateaued functions or plateaued Boolean functions, we construct a family of linear codes with four nonzero weights. This family of linear codes is proved to be not only self-orthogonal but also optimally or almost optimally extendable. Besides, we derive binary and ternary linearly complementary dual codes (LCD codes for short) with new parameters from this family of codes. Some families of self-dual codes are also obtained as byproducts.

Abstract:We generalize the notions of duadic codes, triadic codes, polyadic codes, and split group codes to include noncyclic Abelian codes. Necessary and sufficient conditions for the existence of such codes, and properties such as a duality property and a lower bound on the minimum weight of the subcode of "odd-like" codewords, are studied. This construction and its modification lead to many good codes, eight of which have minimum distance better than the lower bound given in Brouwer's table.

Abstract:Triorthogonal matrices were introduced in Quantum Information Theory in connection with distillation of magic states (Bravyi and Haah (2012)). We give an algorithm to construct binary triorthogonal matrices from binary self-dual codes. Further, we generalize to this setting the classical coding techniques of shortening and extending. We also give some simple propagation rules.

Abstract:A linear code is said to be self-orthogonal if it is contained in its dual. Self-orthogonal codes are of interest because of their important applications, such as for constructing linear complementary dual (LCD) codes and quantum codes. In this paper, we construct several new families of ternary self-orthogonal codes by employing weakly regular plateaued functions. Their parameters and weight distributions are completely determined. Then we apply these self-orthogonal codes to construct several new families of ternary LCD codes. As a consequence, we obtain many (almost) optimal ternary self-orthogonal codes and LCD codes.

Abstract:In the present paper, we generalize the ideas of code constructions from our previous papers . It turns out that the codes in the previous papers can be viewed as special cases of those in this paper. Moreover, our constructions produce some good codes in terms of their parameters. In particular, some best-known codes can be obtained through our methods. Furthermore, our constructions are explicit and the codes can be easily implemented as shown in the tables of Appendix. Besides, one new code, i.e., a 4-ary [64,15,31]-linear code, is found through our constructions.

Abstract:A computational approach to using plug-in arrays, circulant matrices, and negacirculant matrices in the construction and enumeration of extremal and near-extremal self-dual ternary codes. Isomorphism classes of such codes obtainable from orthogonal designs of dimensions 2, 4, and 8 are completely enumerated for several lengths. Additionally, partial searches are conducted for larger lengths, and weight enumerators are derived for near-extremal codes.

Abstract:A class of powerful $q$-ary linear polynomial codes originally proposed by Xing and Ling is deployed to construct good asymmetric quantum codes via the standard CSS construction. Our quantum codes are $q$-ary block codes that encode $k$ qudits of quantum information into $n$ qudits and correct up to $\flr{(d_{x}-1)/2}$ bit-flip errors and up to $\flr{(d_{z}-1)/2}$ phase-flip errors.. In many cases where the length $(q^{2}-q)/2 \leq n \leq (q^{2}+q)/2$ and the field size $q$ are fixed and for chosen values of $d_{x} \in \{2,3,4,5\}$ and $d_{z} \ge \delta$, where $\delta$ is the designed distance of the Xing-Ling (XL) codes, the derived pure $q$-ary asymmetric quantum CSS codes possess the best possible size given the current state of the art knowledge on the best classical linear block codes.

Abstract:There is a local ring E of order 4, without identity for the multiplication, defined by generators and relations as E=⟨a,b∣2a=2b=0,a2=a,b2=b,ab=a,ba=b⟩.$$E=\langle a,b \mid 2a=2b=0,\, a^2=a,\, b^2=b,\,ab=a,\, ba=b\rangle .$$ We study a special construction of self-orthogonal codes over E, based on combinatorial matrices related to two-class association schemes, Strongly Regular Graphs (SRG), and Doubly Regular Tournaments (DRT). We construct quasi self-dual codes over E, and Type IV codes, that is, quasi self-dual codes whose codewords all have even Hamming weight. All these codes can be represented as formally self-dual additive codes over F4.$$\mathbb {F}_4.$$ The classical invariant theory bound for the weight enumerators of this class of codes improves the known bound on the minimum distance of Type IV codes over E.

Abstract:This paper investigates the concept of self-dual convolutional code. We derive the basic properties of this interesting class of codes and we show how some of the techniques to construct self-dual linear block codes generalize to self-dual convolutional codes. As for self-dual linear block codes we are able to give a complete classification for some small parameters.
