Abstract:The paper deals with the globally asymptotically stability of dynamical neural networks with time-varying delays. The sufficient conditions for the globally asymptotically stable of the neural networks are obtained by Lyapunov-Razumikhin technique. Particularly, we discuss the stability conditions which do not require the activation functions to be differential, bounded, or monotone nondecreasing. Two examples are also applied to illustrate the efficiency of the results.

Abstract:It is well known that topology and dynamics are two major aspects to determine the function of a network. We study one of the dynamic properties of a network: trajectory convergence, i.e. how a system converges to its steady state. Using numerical and analytical methods, we show that in a logical-like dynamical model, the occurrence of convergent trajectory in a network depends mainly on the type of the fixed point and the ratio between activation and inhibition links. We analytically proof that this property is induced by the competition between two types of state transition structures in phase space: tree-like transition structure and star-like transition structure. We show that the biological networks, such as the cell cycle network in budding yeast, prefers the tree-like transition structures and suggest that this type of convergence trajectories may be universal.

Abstract:In this paper, we point out that the conditions given in [1] are sufficient but unnecessary for the global asymptotically stable equilibrium of a class of delay differential equations. Instead, we prove that under weaker conditions, it is still global asymptotically stable.

Abstract:In this paper, without assuming the boundedness, strict monotonicity and differentiability of the activation functions, we utilize a new Lyapunov function to analyze the global convergence of a class of neural networks models with time delays. A new sufficient condition guaranteeing the existence, uniqueness and global exponential stability of the equilibrium point is derived. This stability criterion imposes constraints on the feedback matrices independently of the delay parameters. The result is compared with some previous works. Furthermore, the condition may be less restrictive in the case that the activation functions are hyperbolic tangent.

Abstract:This paper considers the global convergence of a class of nonlinear dynamical networks, and the subsystems are discrete time pendulum-like systems. Different from most of the existing results, two kinds of interconnections are considered in view of the fact that the subsystems of networks may have more than one kind of interconnection between each other. The Kalman-Yakubovich-Popov (KYP) lemma and the Schur complement formula are applied to get novel criteria, which have the forms of linear matrix inequalities (LMIs). The Kronecker product is presented which can be used to handle a class of LMI problems. The test of the global convergence of a network of pendulum-like systems is separated into the test of the global convergence of several independent pendulum-like systems. Furthermore, a controller design method based on LMIs is provided. Finally, a numerical example is presented to illustrate the efficiency and applicability of the proposed methods.

Abstract:This paper proves a global stability result for a class of nonlinear discrete-time systems that are subject to regular desynchronization, also known as total asynchronism. The class of systems studied has its origins in a discrete-time neural net model. The techniques used are of interest in terms of the use of a Lyapunov function for the study of convergence of asynchronous nonlinear dynamical systems and also in terms of applications to neural networks. In the latter context, the main result of this paper strengthens a result of an earlier paper on neural networks, and shows that a class of discrete-time continuous-valued neural nets of the Hopfield type displays global convergence properties even when there exists total asynchronism in the updating of neuron states.

Abstract:This paper concerns the problem of the globally exponential stability of neural networks with discrete and distributed delays. A novel criterion for the globally exponential stability of neural networks is derived by employing the Lyapunov stability theory, homomorphic mapping theory, and matrix theory. The proposed result improves the previously reported global stability results. Finally, two illustrative numerical examples are given to show the effectiveness of our results.

Abstract:In this paper, we consider a general class of neural networks, which have arbitrary constant delays in the neuron interconnections, and neuron activations belonging to the set of discontinuous monotone increasing and (possibly) unbounded functions. Based on the topological degree theory and Lyapunov functional method, we provide some new sufficient conditions for the global exponential stability and global convergence in finite time of these delayed neural networks. Under these conditions the uniqueness of initial value problem (IVP) is proved. The exponential convergence rate can be quantitatively estimated on the basis of the parameters defining the neural network. These conditions are easily testable and independent of the delay. In the end some remarks and examples are discussed to compare the present results with the existing ones.

Abstract:The global convergence of neural networks is known to be the basis of successful applications of neural networks in various computation and recognition tasks. However, almost all the previous studies on neural networks assumed that the interconnection matrix is symmetric. Abstract:In this paper, we discuss dynamics of the discrete-time recurrently asymmetrically connected neural networks (DTRACNN). We propose an effective approach to study global stability of the networks. We give some sufficient conditions for the (DRACNN) being exponentially stable. We also give a bound of the step size such that the iteration converges. As a consequence, we derive the exponential stability of continuous-time recurrently asymmetrically connected neural networks (CTRACNN), i.e. the systems controlled by differential equations, too.

Abstract:We evolve network topology of an asymmetrically connected threshold network by a simple local rewiring rule: quiet nodes grow links, active nodes lose links. This leads to convergence of the average connectivity of the network towards the critical value $K_c =2$ in the limit of large system size $N$. How this principle could generate self-organization in natural complex systems is discussed for two examples: neural networks and regulatory networks in the genome.

Abstract:Research on delayed neural networks with variable self-inhibitions, interconnection weights, and inputs is an important issue. In this paper, we discuss a large class of delayed dynamical systems with almost periodic self-inhibitions, inter-connection weights, and inputs. This model is universal and includes delayed systems with time-varying delays, distributed delays as well as combination of both. We prove that under some mild conditions, the system has a unique almost periodic solution, which is globally exponentially stable. We propose a new approach, which is independent of existing theory concerning with existence of almost periodic solution for dynamical systems.

Abstract:A decomposition approach is developed to analyze fixed-point dynamics in continuous-time neural networks of competitive-cooperative type. The idea is to divide the connection weights into inhibitory and excitatory types, and thereby to embed a competitive-cooperative neural network into an augmented cooperative system. This allows for the use of the powerful monotone dynamical system theory. By the method, we derive several simple sufficient and necessary conditions on guaranteed trapping regions and guaranteed componentwise (exponential) convergence of the neural networks. The results relate specific decay rate and trajectory bounds to system parameters and are therefore of practical significance in designing a network with desired performance. A simple example is also given for illustration. © 2005 SICE.
